Former 49er Glen Coffee close to completing Airborne School

After one season with the San Francisco 49ers, running back Glen Coffee went to training camp. And then he quit after two weeks.

Coffee said at the time that his heart was not into football and he planned to return to the University of Alabama. But Al.com reported that Coffee has changed course with his life again. He joined the U.S. Army in February and is about to graduate from Airborne School in Fort Benning, Ga.

He graduates Friday and hopes to be on his way soon to Fort Bragg in North Carolina, where his goal of becoming a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces eventually could be realized.

Good for him. I was a Coffee fan, and though I'm glad now that the Texans didn't draft him, I give the man his due for walking away from damn good money when his heart wasn't in it.

Damn that's high speed as hell. SF Selection is no joke though and is in a completely different league (in terms of toughness to complete) than airborne school.

Being a Raider fan I've watch Napolean Kaufman walk away from the game to pursue the ministry. I've also watched "players" like JaBustus Russell and SloRo McClain, who SHOULD have walked away from the game because their hearts weren't into it. Instead, they took the money, half-assed it, and helped torpedo the Raiders for years to come.
