Seriously?

People this is just entertainment. If one is not entertained they are free to find something else that entertains them. When the product on the field is entertaining again, they will be back. Just because they do not go to the games or watch the games or buy team gear, does not mean they are fair weather or wishy washy fans. My TV will have the game on, but if I watch the game or play SWTOR and just listen to it, depends on the amount of effort the team displays. If they tune out like they did last game then so will I.

You have fans who are actually fans and then you have people like you who view it as purely entertainment. If the game is on and you are jerking around playing a video game, you are not a fan...FULL STOP. Lots of teams have been complete and utter crap, but people still show up and cheer. They still turn on the TV and get immersed emotionally and physically until it's over. THOSE are fans, not your wishy washy self. It is about support and being the extra man providing that support. If you can't understand that, you will never understand sports and being a fan.
 
I'm going to shut this thread down if the only conversation is whose a bigger fan dick measuring.

The best news about the Texans being epically bad is that Texans gear will
be cheaper and easier to find than usual..
 
Meh, I'll wear whatever gear I feel like wearing and I'll go to the games if I want to. Just because the football team is bad, and because I want them to dismiss certain people and they haven't isn't going to change my mind about rooting for them.

Not that the situations are analagous but I'm still cheering for the rockets even though their opening to the season has been about the level of what the Texans did when they started.

Just because a fan does not get as emotionally and physically involved in a football game as you do, does not mean they are not a fan.

I have learned to not take it as seriously as some here do and let a loss get me that upset to be in a pissy mood for hours or days. It is just a game, entertainment which I have no control over who wins or who looses, who they draft or cut or who the GM or Coach is. The Texans will do what they want. There are more important things in life - family, kids, grandkids.

This does not mean that we cannot enjoy a normal, healthy discussion of the things the Texans do that most of us disagree with.

Why the **** does any of this matter to anyone? I don't give a flying pink rat's ass if you're a "fair weather" fan, a bandwagon jumper, someone who never goes to a game or someone who has never missed a game. WHO F^&KING CARES!!?? And if you do, WHY?

Stop telling people how to be a fan, or what kind of fan you think they are and just do your thing. You're no better than anyone else no matter how much you think you are.

My only issue with people's fandom is when the teams losing and SUDDENLY want to discuss the team and be a fan, as well as the other side where a fan doesn't want anything to do with the team unless their Winning .
 
I will be wearing my God"ell is a douche T-Shirt again this Sunday.

That way I dont show support for the product the McNair's have chosen to put on the field.

Not that the McNair's care about the fanbase thoughts.

You can tell that most of us here have been here for a long time. Through the better years and the crappy years. We love our Texans and come here for news and discussion of the good and bad.

Some of us have just learned not to be a "fanatic" fan and but know that each of us are all fans in our own way.

Stop buying tickets to the games? Isn't there a several year waitlist to get season tickets? You think the franchise cares that some non-PSL's are not buying tickets or that a few season ticket holders give them up. 6 million people live in Houston area. The tickets are always going to get sold. This isn't small market Jacksonville where a bad product on the field combined with a bad economy made them put tarps over half the seats in their stadium.

The only way we are going to see change is to continue to claim them as "our" team and be vocal about our displeasure. Show up. Be loud. Send a message.

Great post. I was miserable during the Tampa Bay game because of the way they played. I am going to the Titans game with not a care in the world. I will have a good time no matter the score. The Texans already have my money. If I stayed home, no one would hear my booing. What fun would that be :) Damn it, I want to love this team like I loved the Oilers as a kid growing up. The Texans have done everything in their power it seems to dampen fan enthusiasm: drafting Mario instead of VY, sucking for the vast majority of the team's existence, not trading for Manning when he wanted to come here, the Hoyer/Mallett fiasco, it goes on and on.

Because there are fans and then whatever you are which is not a fan. UNDYING support of your team is an essential element of FANdom. ENENDING criticism of a team makes you a CRITIC, not a fan. There are plenty of those around so you're have plenty of company.

You have every right to BE a critic, but not a right to call yourself a FANatic.

Funny, Speedy's tag has 2004 on it (May 1st means before the merger) ... yours is 2012. I'd suggest against telling someone with visual evidence of supporting the team for at least the past 12+ years that they're 'not a fan'.

WTF does being critical have to do with being a fan? As you've missed, it's the current lethargy that is endangering 'fandom'. Grams has the best posts in this thread, you should re-read them. Criticism requires interest, the key component of being emotionally involved in a subject aka being a fan. I have little more than disdain what's going on with the team right now, and there's always been something to b!tch about.

Drawing conclusions with little facts has an even longer shelf life and can make one look pretty clueless. But if being a season ticket holder since day one, having never missed a single home game makes me not a fan, then so be it. As I've said, a pink rat's ass I do not give.
