For the second time in 4 years the Cowboys' draft board is "leaked"

Jerry took a bunch of pictures standing in front of their draft board that got published in the media, so from those pictures fans deconstructed their entire board round by round.

Not a Cowboys fan, but I'm still very interested in how other teams rank players in the Draft, especially ones the Texans end up drafting. So it's interesting and informative to see that there was 4 players on their Board who the Texans took that they liked well enough to put on their own Board, including Hopkins, Swearington, and offensive linemen Williams and Quess.
Now they had those ranked players atleast a round lower than where the Texans drafted them, but they had a very limited number of players on their Board which indicated they saw talent and upside in several players Houston took and also shows how selective they were because of the many, many players they totally excluded from thier Board. But they had a 2nd round grade on Hopkins and a third round grade on Swearington, however they also had a 2nd round grade on the center they thought enough of to use their first round pick on. And they also had Quess listed as a guard and not a tackle which is good to know since it points to his versatility.

Also, like many others, the Cowboys didn't have Sam Montgomery on their board at all. Some mentioned before the draft that he's a first round talent, but had a horrible interview with many teams at the combine. Hopefully the Texans got a steal here, and that interview was just a misunderstanding.

Another thing, since this has now happened twice to the Cowboys, I'm assuming they're doing this ("leaking" the board) on purpose. I don't understand what they have to gain by doing this. If anything, they're offering an insight to other clubs on how they evaluate their players.

Draft is over, so it really shouldn't matter to any other team. Fans would like it, I'm sure.

The only reason I can think not to release your draft board, is that the guy you took in the 1st or 2nd might start crying because you ranked another guy at his position better than him. Or a guy might get bent out of shape knowing you had him ranked in the 6th.

What if later down the line a player you rated highly becomes available through wavers or a trade. Other teams knowing how much you liked him a couple of years ago may alter the way they go after him based on this. I know this is a far fetched scenario, and any advantage given away is minimal, but I think you're still giving up SOME competitive advantage to your opponents, and I'm glad the Texans aren't doing this even though as a fan I'd love to see their draft board.

Are the Cowboys one of the best teams in the league at evaluating and drafting talent? Do they run the same scheme as we do?

I'm not really concerned with how they had players ranked. It's interesting to see HOW they put their board together... limiting themselves to 120-130 players ranked by round... but I'm not really worried about who they have on their board or where. If I was a Cowboy fan, I'd be fascinated by it.

Gobs and gobs of players ranked very highly elsewhere were absent from the Dallas Board for a variety reasons like an injury history, character issues, bad scheme/compatiblity etc. There were several players who ultimately were taken in the first round of last months draft who weren't on the Dallas Board, not even as 7th rounders. And of course the needs or priorities for their Draft were completely different than what Houston needed most likely, so we'd expect 2 entirely and different Boards for 2 different teams..
This is instructive because it shows what a real Draft Board for a real team looks like with all of the emphasis for the specific teaml, and not just your generalized, average garden variety mock-draft.

TT telling me the quote itself is too short, so I gotta type this in...

Calvin Watkins @calvinwatkins
Asked Cowboys official if Jerry Jones will conduct an investigation into Blogging The Boys getting the draft board and I was told "No".

It's too bad Cowboy fan can't take Jerruh off their board for character/off the field issues.
