Football Gameplan's 2014 NFL Draft Grades - Texans

0:20 -- "We're going to look back at the Detroit Lions to see how well Detriot did this past weekend."

Thanks Diggy!

As always.

I like the Savage pick. Man, I can just imagine what that kid could be like if he gets the mental part of this game.

Thanks DB! I just don't know w/ Savage man…For O'Brien's sake, I hope it pans out. At least the defense & run game will be there

Dang! It's always something when you're trying to cut n' clip to streamline the process. Thanks for the catch!

As always I appreciate your candor Diggy and by the same token I don't always agree. In this case of course it's rounds 4-7. But then again just a couple of opinions that we'll have to sweat out and see what happens on the field.

Thanks again for you effort.

Lions?? :kitten:

I liked it. Rounds 4-7 were kind of odd, but at the end of the day Nobody knows who is avoid fit and who isn't besides the team. We as a fan base will be able to make better judgements on that in a year or two

Em, thanks for your video. I think FB Prosch and Pagan were also good picks for us. Anyway, we will see. I told you Jadeveon would be our pick at 1-1.

Suggest that player weights at combine should be used to give more accuracy. Nix' weight 331 not 345. Also comment was that better QB could have been had at round two but no suggestion as to when OL would have been addressed which was priority also. IMO no QB was better than X #33. Opinion stated was Savage should not have been 4th round pick but the UDFA DB (Williams I think) that was evaluated in 2nd round seems off.

Thanks Drs! Not a problem..disagreement helps jumpstart conversation! The RB pick was the one I was like 'Really??"

Thanks PTF! Yep..the good part is that it'll all get settled on the field

Thanks Samurai! Good call on Clowney…I'll be interested to see how they use both he and Prosch. If it were me, I'd stand him up and let 'em loose. Prosch could be that HB type asset for you guys

Williams was an outstanding player all 4 years..even put together a solid week at the E/W Shrine Game. Surprised he didn't get the call up to Mobile. Also, IMO, there were 25 QBs I liked ahead of Savage when I evaluated the QB prospects…but we'll see..maybe he'll be a better pro.

As far as the OL was concern, you're right, I should've given an example. So lets say in place of Savage, Dakota Dozier (Furman) would've been perfect. Another G/T player that has great athleticism and also played well all week in Tampa at the Shrine Game

Thanks Em, I always enjoy your videos.

Draft grades are a funny thing, because people give them out for several different reasons. Is it about how much better a team got, does the position they picked at play a vital role, how much does the round a player get drafted matter?

I always feel like a team has to get it right in the first 3 rounds. In these rounds you want to get players that start or at least contribute a lot for your teams. Everything after that are usually a gamble and most of the times turn into depth and special teamers. So if a team comes away with 3-4 probable starters after the first 3 rounds, I think they did a pretty good job.

Late round QBs are hard to evaluate. There is always something wrong with them. Do you want the guy that should`ve been an early rounder but got health issues? Do you want a guy that plays great but lacks the physical traits and skills? Or do you want a guy that has all the physical traits and skills, but that you still have to teach the mental aspects of the game? I think different coaches have different approaches to that and OB took the one with all the tools that he could teach. Nothing wrong with that in my book, it`s a gamble, but all late round QBs are.

After those 4 picks it went straight to the 6th round - it really is a crapshot here. We´ve got some ST aces in Proesch, Blue, Hal and Ballentine and some possible line depth in Pagan. The ST aces also actually have a chance to contribute early, especially Proesch. So, even though some higher rated guys were available, I think that`s pretty good.

Like I said, grades don`t mean much and are hard to compare. I think you could argue us taking a lot of guys with injury issues, concerns about Clowneys drive and several non sexy picks. But if you look at the talent we`ve got and the fact that we probably got 4-5 starters out of the draft, I´d give us an A-.

Well thought out, well said.

Man you have been plugging away at this stuff for years now. Gotten any recognition for them anywhere?

I liked it. Rounds 4-7 were kind of odd....

I think that's pretty consistent with what most people are saying. We were hitting homeruns with our first four picks, then we're hitting ground balls rounds 4-7. But it's rounds 4-7.

I like the Savage pick, but I consider it a fifth rounder more than a fourth, being compensatory & all. I like Pagan, can't really see an argument against that one.

Blue... I understand people saying there were better RBs, but this looks like a "fit" pick. We may never understand it, but it might work, just because of the fit.

Prosh, Hal, & Ballentine... again, can't see the arguments there.
