Five Keys To Success For Houston Texans in 2009

Wolf

100% Texan
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/111947-five-keys-to-success-for-houston-texans-in-2009

Despite extraordinary talent, the Texans pulled off another mediocre season at 8-8. What will the Texans need to work on this off-season to produce the franchise’s first winning record in 2009?

Electric Shock Torture for Turnovers

I don’t care if they soak each Texan guilty of a turnover in water and hook a car battery to his toes after the game, turnovers are killing the team. The majority of these turnovers were interceptions thrown by Schaub and Rosenfels. On a lighter note, Schaub showed more restraint towards the end of the season when he started throwing passes out of bounds instead of trying to force it downfield causing interceptions.

Reboot the Defense

Mario Williams and Dameko Ryans are phenomenal cornerstones to the Texans’ defense, but they obviously can’t go it alone. The Texans’ defense ranked 22nd in the NFL at the end of '08. The Texans took a step in the right direction by firing every defensive coach and their mother, but they can’t stop there. More help for Mario Williams is imperative; hopefully the Texans will draft strong in the defensive arena this year.

Bone and Tendon Enhancement Pills for Matt Schaub

Oh look, it's the site that said Romeo Crennel was the leading candidate for the defensive coordinator job.

I'll pass on reading that.

And he claims we have "extraordinary" talent? Sure, this is true at a few individual positions, namely MLB, DE, and WR, but we were by no means a team full of extraordinary talent.

I will pass on any article that can't spell Demeco's name correctly. Dameko?!?! Really? You can't just type his name in Google real quick?

I was always under the impession that Bleacherreport was a website where "anybody" could submit an article and it would get put on the site.

If I'm not mistaken, it's also the same site that had a writer predict (in all seriousness) that the Texans would go 1-15 in 2008.

I'd rather read Richard Justice.

Yeah, I thought we had a new player.

Yeah, I thought we had a new player. However, I think we have alot more talent than people think.

Is everyone really disagreeing?

I'm staring at our 08 schedule right now and I see anywhere from 2-3 more wins that would've helped us if not for the turnovers. Jville, both Indy games.

Our D hasn't put any pressure on the QB and now Richard Smith is gone so that is a step in the right direction.

Schaub hasn't completed a full season over the past two seasons. He does need some kind of bone and tendon enhancers.

If all 3 of the above were perfect, we'd be playing some really really really important games this year.

I agree we have some good/great talent but extraordinary is a bit much. Extraordinary talent leads one to believe that we are a team full of Pro Bowlers, which we are not. A good team on the rise (especially if we have a good free agency and draft)? Yes! An extraordinarily talented team? You're crazy if you think so.

Good post. I agree with you, but I don't agree with the writer that we have extraordinary talent (see above). A few more wins, and we would have likely made the playoffs. But we lost those games and there is nothing we can do about it. If only we could give Schaub the X-Men Wolverine armor...

I didn't disagree with it at all......it's just it wasn't anything I haven't heard before. Almost like the writer just clicked on this board and jotted down notes from posts like these....

1. these freaking turnovers are KILLING US!!! We give away games

2. Richard Smith sucks! Weaver is horrible, we need a legit DE not another DT opposite Mario

3. Matt Schaub has to stay healthy and prove he's not injury prone (there's already a thread about this on the front page)

4. we suck in the redzone/we need to find a thumper/thunder back to compliment Steve Slaton's lightning.

5. Got to start winning against the Titans and Colts...

I've just been hearing the same thing typed many different ways for awhile now.....nothing new or insightful, that's all, but I could see where it would be helpful to readers that know nothing about or don't follow the team.

Where was I using the word "extraordinary"? I just said alot more talent than people think, not best team of the last 20 years.

Not you at all man. I was speaking of the writer of the article that was posted at the top.
