Titans Coach Jeff Fisher called Metro Nashville Police Chief Ronal Serpas into a team huddle. Following the arrest of a second Titan this week, Serpas helped the coach deliver a message to about 30 players who gathered for an unprecedented meeting.
The message: Professional athletes are subject to the law just like anyone else.
Titans safety Tank Williams was arrested and charged with DUI early yesterday morning. Two days earlier, Titans cornerback Samari Rolle was arrested and charged with domestic assault following an altercation with his wife.
Fisher and Serpas spoke to the gathering.
''I thought they were attentive, they were respectful,'' Serpas said. ''I told them, as I would say to any group, that everybody is innocent until proven guilty, but drunk driving and domestic violence continue to be two of the biggest issues that this nation and community faces and we need to be very serious about it. ...
''I was so very impressed with the seriousness that (Fisher) attached to this topic when he talked to his team.'' -Ben Maller
