Is our first 3rd round pick going to start since we drafted him as our first pick ? If not then why did we draft him ? Does our staff have doubts on our starting QB ? Would love to hear back from yall .

Miserable thread. Please delete mods.
what do you mean terrible thread . Delete it . Why would you pick a bench player for your first pick when you have soooo many holes. You could of picked him up at the end of the draft .

He likely won't start the season. The Texans signed Taylor to start and will be in no hurry to rush Davis. He'll certainly be given a heavy indoctrination during training camp, but Taylor will be starting unless Mills just clearly wins the starting job. At some point this season Mills will start. Culley and his coaching staff needs to evaluate Mills under game conditions and the progress he is making toward being their long term starter, and making the decision on whether they need to draft a quarterback in 2022.

I’m not trying to defend the Texans. I’m as puzzled as the next guy, just trying to make sense out of all this.

but you’re not filling too many holes with 3rd & 4th round picks anyway. You’re picking up players who may develop into solid role players.

Maybe they’re taking more snaps in the final months of the season, preparing to earn their spot the following season.

That said, the only reason I could see the Texans taking Davis Mills where they did is because they expected him to be gone way before their pick & couldn’t pass.

There is no guarantee that any 3rd rounder is going to be an immediate starter.

He is going to be developed and will learn in 2021-2022 season. He will not play past pre season. In 2022-2023 then he will be in the mix to win the starting job...
