First news of Madden 06

nice but i really didnt see that much of a difference between McNabb and Vicks vision. Whats all about the x button on ps2 only being sprint now?

To be honest, that sounds pretty stupid. If they want to implement a feature like that, they should take away the hovering buttons over a players head and just make the QB focus on a single target.

You didn't notice how much narrower Vick's vision was? McNabbs covered like 1/4 of the field where as Vick's was more like 1/8th of the field.

I guess its safe to say that the cover boy will most likely be a QB with good vision. Hope its Manning he'll either break a leg or get herpes and then the Texans can take the AFC South.

Ok. I feel a little better for seeing that, too. I'm looking forward to it. I'm just hoping I can translate my dominance in EXPN NFL 2K5 to Madden 2006.

...The gameplay is always great, but I've been waiting for the graphics to improve for years...

And the NFL awarded these guys the exclusive license? Unless there is even more improvement to the game, i'll just hope for 2K5 content downloads from X-Box live.

I hope they implement the feature well. Supposedly, if you lock on to a receiver the defense will get a slight incease in awareness. However, if you look-off the defense by locking on to one receiver then switching and throwing to another, the D will get a slight decrease.

Also, once the receivers complete their routes, their icons disappear--except the icons over receivers in your field of vision.

I like the idea. I hope it makes the total game better and doesn't imbalance gameplay (like the super linebackers did last year). Since EA decided to cut the foundation from under the competition, it's not like I have options for playing video football this fall. :(

Yeah... I really hope both the graphics and physics get redone in the next generation.

It looks like they've finally included some head tracking for the receivers and CB's, so they watch the ball when they're running to catch it, instead of using their psychic powers to find it.

How about ESPN 2k6, any news?

EA essientially has a stranglehold on the NFL games now. From my understanding they've got the only official license to produce games for the NFL. Also I think they purchased or bought out the ESPN 2k.. franchise so they'll be able to use ESPN styled presentation in their games.

My understanding is that Madden has exclusive rights to official NFL trademarks or whatever. Also, when ESPN's current contract expires next year, EA will begin a deal with ESPN that will allow them to use ESPN's likeness and media in their games. That means Madden 2007 will probably include new ESPN presentation as well as the next-gen graphics. My suspicion is that 2006 will show even less improvement than in years before, they're probably working (and have been for some time) on making a knockout 2007 for the next-gen consoles that will really blow away any competition. It's early, but I'm really disappointed with the graphics in those SS's. It looks almost identical to '05.

Since EA has the rights to the NFL's content, sega's ESPN line of NFL games can no longer use any of the teams or players in the NFL. They can still make a football game, potentially even with retired NFL players as far as I know, and they very well could be developing a football game, it just won't be an NFL game.

Don't really play Madden anymore. I'm all about NCAA Football. I like the fact I won't have the same team for like ten years if I wanted. I know free agency helps prevent SOME of it but in NCAA you know you're players are gone in four years. Or if they're really good, they leave early. But I do enjoy a good Vick/McNabb match-up.

Not if you redshirt them. There were some guys I couldn't get to leave that stuck around for 5 or 6 years. They were too good to cut, but not good enough to start. It is annoying that they don't name the players in NCAA. I understand the reasoning, but it just means I'll have to play the franchise mode for 6 or 7 seasons before I weed out all the annoynmous players from all the squads. Either that or making up names for a good portion of them when I bring in a draft class through Madden. It got to the point that I was naming players in respect for the team that drafted them. For example the Washington Redskins had a ton of ex-presidents on their roster. "Jefferson drops back, and finds an wide open Lincoln for the TD."

They have downloadable rosters for NCAA 2005 that has all of the players names, even the guys on Florida International University...You have to buy a USB device to get the rosters from your computer to your PlayStation/XBOX, but it's worth it to have to see "LE #91 sacks QB # 11" all game...

Switching gears from Madden, have any of yall heard about the "Race for the Heisman" feature on NCAA 2006? It sounds sweet...You start by creating yourself, choose what position you want to play, get recruited, then play through your college career...Sounds real cool :thumbup ...

Quarterback Vision is cheese! :loser I really hope this is an optional thing.

The fact is that NCAA '05 and ESPN2k5 were much better football games than Madden '05.

Madden is stale, and this from a long time fan of the franchise. But year in and year out, we get some cheese upgrade that proves useless (ie. hit stick), and an updated roster. But same old graphics, same old polygon crowd, same old stupid Madden commentary ("when those guys play in mud, they get dirty!" duh, Johnny, now STFU!)

ESPN2k5 could easily have been argued the better game this year, and Sega has been gaining ground on the Madden dominance year after year. This next round was sure to put them over the top. Figures EA had to ruin it (although it was the NFL pushing for the exclusive deal).

NCAA is even getting it's fair share of cheese, too. That Heisman Chase thing included something about having a girlfriend who gets prettier when you win. Lame-O!!

I hope Sega puts out a Mutant League Football or something cool. I really hate to see that beautiful engine go to waste.

*note to self: keep ESPN2k5 hoping for XBL updates*

Thanks...I've been hooked on MLB 2006's career mode since the day it came out. A football version sounds even sweeter.

I've been addicted to NBA Street Vol. 3 recently. It's tons of fun. I'm working on 3 Street modes right now on the different difficulty ratings. My favorite guy I created is Rick James. He looks sort of like Rick James, but he's 7'7", cut, and handles like a PG. By the time August comes around I'll probably be ready for a new game like Madden or the next NCAA edition.

EA has exclusive rights to the NFL for video games for 5 years. They also signed ESPN for 15 yrs with an option to cut the contract at 10 yrs (special reasons have to apply) but next year the game will still be Madden because ESPN is with SEGA for 1 more year.

I can't get "into" basketball or basketball games. The amount of detail in MLB 2006' career mode though is GROSS. I got sent down to AAA because in my first start in the majors(I'm a pitcher and I pitched 1 season in AA and 1 season in AAA before getting the new contract and a call up...), Ichiro cranked two deep on me. I lasted 1 1/3 innings :loser . I hope NCAA Football can even come CLOSE to the level of detail MLB has.

Yeah NBA Street is the only basketball game I've been able to get into for a long time. It's just a more free flowing and fun game.

I really like the NCAA feature, and it will definately be something different or at least a way to take a break from the franchise mode.

the field vision thing can be ok aslong as ea doesn't make it to effective, much like the current pump fake. if they do it right it will make the game more realistic. as for ncaa, i can't say that i am to excited about the chase the heisman, but will hold out judgement till i hear the rest of the improvments and play the game. as for the rosters, their are a few things that you can do if you don't like the numbers. if you have a sharkport or x port you can get them off the internet, if you don't you can send your memory card and get them. actually ea just get the rights for ncaa football, much like the nfl, and they are trying to get them to allow the game to have the names, many ea guys are on the boards asking questions to see if people would enjoy the game more if the names were involved.

I agree with you 100%. EA wants to force this BS down our throat. What makes ESPN 2K5 such a far superior game (in my opinion) is the actual gameplay. It's a true football game, period. I'm not going to lie, I was an EA apoligist for a loooooooooooooong time til I saw the light of day. I traded in my PS2 and every game I had to get an X-Box for ESPN 2K5. Playing online/offline is a new experience every game. It's a shame that one company (being EA) sees the same thing as I (and aparently yourself as well) and basically says "We can't beat them so we'll just out bid them (with the exclusive contracts with ESPN and NFL and NFLPA) to cut them off or anyone else for that matter."

There is going to be a 60 second commercial for the Madden 2006 games for the next generation systems (PS3 and Xbox 360) that will air on Saturday on ESPN during the 1st hour of the NFL draft!

Not neccasarily they could come out afterwards like how the Nintendo DS did this year and it still had madden 05

Madden '06 will not be for next-gen systems. That 60 second commercial will be a preview of Madden '07 and beyond (after next gen systems are out).

I haven't heard anything in a while, but I thought microsoft's sequel to the xbox will be coming out next x-mas, followed by the ps3 at a later date. Very well could be wrong on that.

Many people seem to think that EA bought out the NFL just so they won't have any comp, that is not the case. The NFL was on sell, they were looking for buyers and EA was the one with the most cash and best selling. And as far as the 2k series goes, it was ok, it had better graphics and I liked how you could gang tackle but other than that the game was lame. The worst part about it was that you can break tackles like crazy if you got good at it, a punter could break Ray Lewis' tackle for god sakes.

Eagles | McNabb on Cover for Madden Video Game - from www.KFFL.com
Thu, 21 Apr 2005 07:23:41 -0700

Bob Grotz, of the Daily Times, citing Street and Smith's Sports Business Journal, reports Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb will be on the cover of EA's Madden NFL 2006 football game.

SOrry Philly your year is now over.

Fellas I cant say much about it but the release dates for the next systems will be Q4 of 06. Go out and buy them. i will enjoy playing them in LA May 13-17 at E3

Damn, I wish I could go to E3!!! I've been wanting to go to one but I just don't have the time. Hope you enjoy it!

Ok...so here's the REALLY important question about Madden 06...do they shaft the Texans in the ratings again?

I think that might be a little over the top but you get the drift. Most of last years initial ratings were decent, I couldn't stand that Carr was so slow he couldn't get out of his own way but oh well.

The only other thing that I really would liked tweaked is the draft process...more scouting options and better trade options. Maybe a digital Mel Kiper giving us mediocre draft advice. :hmmm:

what I hate about the trades..is you put a player on the block and a team gives you say draft picks.. you try to make the trade and it says that the other teams has too many players on the roster so you can't make the move to the team.

Also I wish the A.I. would offer you a counter offer (esp. when it comes to draft picks)

If any of y'all saw the clip of the next gen madden, did it seem like it was trying to emulate that nike commercial last year? You know, the cold night game, where Vick was passing to T.O.? They were in dark green jerseys...I dunno, it seemed similar to me. I wasn't all that impressed with it to be honest, and that's coming from a big madden fan. Very little of it was probably real game footage, and it didn't look like the quantum leap in graphics that I was expecting. Maybe it's a quantum leap from the current Madden graphics, but it still didn't stack up to some of the other stuff I see coming out in the near future. Anyways...they still have over a year to work on it so I'm sure it'll be super-polished by the time they release it.
