Ferguson on ESPN

F-minus67

Veteran
I don't know if antone else is watching but it looks like that injury he had a couple of weeks ago has had no effect on his play. He is shuting down the florida state RE. If he can play like this for the rest of the season, he will be the first lineman taken and his play tonight looked better that and tackle play I've seen in a while. Hopefully the texans will be able to snag him. :texflag:

I watched it too. Not once did the RE even get close to getting by Ferguson. The Texans need him badly.

He's Very athletic for an OT, good feet, amazing in pass pro, can get to outside speed rushers, could add a lot more weight, good form, gets good extension.

This is what I saw tonight. He did amazing , like tuletexan said, we need him badly!

I pretty much agree with those observations, he uses alot of leverage from a wide base, but gets pushed back at times because he lacks strength, like you said he needs to bulk up which I'm sure he will. While I like what I saw tonight from D'Brick and can't help but think he will need time to develop before he starts in the NFL, even for the Texans. give him two or three years then you might really have something. He seems to have good field vison keeping his head up and looking ahead to engage multiple defenders but right now he is lankey, does not have a strong hand punch to knock defenders back so once they work their way into his body he's neturalized.

At this point do we have time for Ferguson to develop? If we throw him into the mix right away he could get hurt, right now he is basicly playing every other quarter & getting help from the LG (I liked the way they worked together). Seems like the Texans should have drafted someone like him (don't say Wand) in 2002 0r 2003 so by now we would'nt be having this thread.

I saw a different game. (I guess I should have DVRed the game.) He didn't impress me. He held his own, but I didn't see what you all are seeing. Please help convince me. I'm thinking about committing sacrilege (to steal from one of the other posters) and saying that getting Bush would be in the Texans best interest.

trust me it would not be sacrilege :) until proven otherwise Bush remains the singular top prospect in the draft should he declare his intentions to enter the draft. I really hope that the Texans are not that bad so Casserly does not have to entertain that thought & that the Texans will be forced to take the best tackle on the board :texans:

IMO we can't afford to take BPA, we need to start focusing on needs. If the O line is not addressed soon, I expect us to have the 1st overall pick for the next couple of seasons.

Great College back no doubt but I'm trying to figure out how he is much different than Warrick Dunn....because that how I see him being used in the pros.

How great is this RB Bush and his NFL potential, can one talk about him and his potential in the same breath as say Bo Jackson & OJ, or is he something less than that ?
But back to the LT topic, a guy I've read a lot about is Marcus McNeil out of Auburn and what I've read is a very mixed review. Kinda the DJ of this upcoming years college Draft. (You guys remember DJ, played LB at the U of Texas and some said he would great in the NFL and some said he would be a bust). Anyway, I've seen where some rate him better than Ferguson and some say he won't go untill after the first round.

I love Reggie Bush, I think that he is a great player, hes explosive, fast, and has grat hands and vision. All the things that you look for in a running back. But right now we have a consistent 1000 yard rusher and getting reggie bush would be a great pick up, but not a smart one, he will have been our 3rd top 3 skill position pick, and without having at least an average o-line we would not be douing him justice and we would be putting him into a position thats hard to accel in. I think D'Brickshaw Ferguson would start from the day he was signed if we drafed him, I dont think that he is a projest LT, I think that he can come in and play now and start for us.

except he is less than 200 pounds and reminds me of Warrick Dunn or Brian Westbrook and may not be a 3 down back. I have concerns he will not be an inside the tackles back at the next level....so you have to design swing outs and put him in the slot and use him like Westbrook and Dunn....who btw aren't every down backs for the most part.

I don't seem to remember Warrick Dunn as a return specialist, am I wrong on this  not to mention he is much smaller like 5'10" 180 lbs.

if you guys insist on pigeonholing Reggie at least make it someone with his set of skills that seperate themselves from the pack like a Gale Sayers. they are exactly the same size 6'0" and 200 lbs. & if you haven't noticed, have the same quiet demeanor, its like a time capsule brought back to life, the moves, the speed, the vision and also I'm afraid the fragility. I mean how do you intend to pass on a high probability NFL Hall Of Famer if the opportunity presents itself? the Houston Texans would be known as the Portland Trailblazers of the NFL who passed on Michael Jordan for LaRue Martin because they needed a Center (analogy LT) and I guess we know pretty well how that all turned out :brickwall

I agree, I have thought of that as well, I actually think that LenDale White may be the better NFL back, I've never seen Bush slam it between the tackles, all I see is hm with huge holes showcasing his speed and agility.

Okay, its a little early to be calling him a HOF candidate, if you would have said pro-bowler, I might have been with you. Plus you cant compare football to b-ball, its more of a team game, if one person doesnt execute, especially on the o-line, the whole offense suffers.

Calling Bush "Gayle Sayers" is a questionable as comparing Carr to Brett Farve or John Elway when he was a College Senior. Every year some of you guys just overhype these guys like crazy. Where is all that love for JJ Arrington now that he isn't facing College boys? He has the same kind of game.

The "Kansas Comet", Sayers was a great RB but definitely fragile. I think his
NFL career with the Bears ended when he was only 27, 28 ? Blew out a knee
and back then unfortuatly for him they did not have the medical tech to repair
it and get him back into actiona season later so his injury as career ending.
Then there was "Brians Song".

I'll wait for the combine before I trust College data...they always make their guys bigger than reality.

Pretty much describes JJ Arrington from last season.

The thing that concerns me about Reggie Bush is that he isn't an every down back. I don't think he would be able to be an every down back in the NFL. Remember college is nothing compared to the NFL. Reggie Bush looks great juking out LB's from Notre Dame and blowing by safeties from Arizona State, but do you expect him to have similar results against Ray Lewis and Roy Williams? Or what's going to happen when Julius Peppers nails him and throws him around like a rag doll?

We were all misled to believe the O-line situation would be handled in the beginning. Obviously, that hasn't happened and after 3 and 1/4 seasons they still have no idea how to correct the problem. I have that solution---FIRE THE FREAKING COACH who refuses to see that his system is not working. I thought that D Capers was a pretty good coach, but my mind has been changed in the last couple of years. IMO the D stands for Dumb.

I've been pretty skeptical of Bush myself. Seems like everyone is hyping him, and rightfully so; he's an amazing player, but I don't know if his abilities will translate well to the NFL. I'd much rather take a guy like Ferguson.

Where would Reggie Bush fit in? We have Davis, we took Morency, Wells is playing good, we have Holli . . . well we have Davis, Wells, and Morency. I just think there is no need at RB, and if Gaffney and Mathis can step up, then there is no serious need at WR. We need O Linemen and if Ferguson is amazing in pass pro and locks his side down, why wouldn't we take him? Last time I checked, Carr has been sacked 27 times in 4 games while Davis had 130 rushing yards last game.

Davis is playing fine. Considering what he has done with a porous line, imagine what he we would do with a good line.

This team run blocks well...just because they can't pass block doesn't mean they have to be poor run blockers.

An overall upgrade of the line affects all aspects of the offense. Our line might be adequate for run blocking right now, but they are far from being a good run blocking line.

ok whatever, this wasn't even the point of my post. i was just saying that an upgrade of the line will not only make carr better but davis as well. our line might be doing well right now, but with an upgrade we will be that much better. we don't need reggie bush or matt leinart, we need d'brickinshaw ferguson or marcus mcneil. let's not nitpick on which aspect of the line is better than the other, when we can all agree that all aspects of the line need to be improved.

I think that you make an excellent point, I believe that if you can run and pass, it opens up more room for everyone, if you cna run, it should open up the pass more, andif you can pass it also opens up the run, so a balanced o-line is always better than a one deminsional one.

I'm hearing the same things here, so lets keep it simple.

Vinny is very right. Houston's run blocking is possibly the only thing that has worked right this year. Maybe not as well as it could, but 11th in running is definitely respectable, considering we are last in just about everything else. Everyone here wants to keep Carr off of his butt and frankly BOTH of the ideas I'm hearing from you guys are legitimate. In other words:

Getting an awesome running back that can take advantage of a good run blocking line is a great thing and btw DD and whomever (possibly Bush, I still don't know) they will keep the defense respecting the run and opening up chances for passes.

Getting an awesome left tackle that can create holes for DD and can improve our pass blocking is a great thing as well. We get the same results, more holes to run through, less time with Carr in the turf.

Houston is in a win win situation in the draft, assuming there is a half a brain there to make the good decisions.

i agree. i feel bush will only be a change of pace back and return man, granted a very good one, but he does not scream with nfl star potential to me. even if he turns out to be one, he doesnt fix our main problems. i believe he weighs 180, and you are still asking him to pick up the blitzers that come through the line.

The only way we dont take a LT in the first is if we wait until the second for witworth or someone who is very solid and pick up a top tier lb such as amahd brooks...who is coming back strong and will be a top 15 pick at least.
