Looking at the point spreads for today's games I can't help but think Kirk Herbstreit right. There is no way UGA is a double digit underdog in either game today.

Either make a playoff of conference champs or go back polls, but quit pretending the committee is taking politics and popular opinion out of the equation and picking the best four teams. They are not.

Still, I'm hoping the games are more competitive than Vegas does.

That would still eliminate Georgia from the playoffs. I like the idea of conference champs only because it might eliminate the mega conferences. But, the NCAA is run by the mega conferences, so that never happens. I really think this is as good as it will get. Another round of playoffs could make the star players re-think about playing in the postseason and avoiding injury. That's already prevalent in the non-playoff bowl games.

It's not the result; its the process. The whole point of this new system was supposed be "ignore everything and pick the best four teams in the country". The fact that today's lines are 12 and 14 points tells me they didn't do that. They basically followed pre-BCS polling methodology. There is ZERO difference except you have fewer people voting.

FYI - Haven't been rooting for GA since they **** on Richt...this isn't sour grapes.

I like the idea of conference champs only because it might eliminate the mega conferences. But, the NCAA is run by the mega conferences, so that never happens. I really think this is as good as it will get. Another round of playoffs could make the star players re-think about playing in the postseason and avoiding injury. That's already prevalent in the non-playoff bowl games.

IMHO, we could forgo one regular season game (Do we really need to see Alabama vs Citadel?) and go to conference champs. Turn the Power Five and the mid-majors into eight conferences. Same number of games for the champ; 100% decided on the field.

Absent that I'd rather see the coaches vote and/or go back to the BCS formula. It probably made the most sense anyway.

No, few fans would care. But, these games are the lifeblood of the smaller college programs. Without that $500k from Alabama, The Citadel might have to shutdown it's football program. Not to mention the other athletic programs the money helps fund. I think the mega programs should be forced to share with the smaller programs. I guess that makes me a liberal. I just think college football should be a nationwide experience, and not just a couple of handful of teams playing for a mythical championship.

I understand what you're saying, but being an annual sacrificial lamb just to fund your football program doesn't seem like the best way to accomplish it. Watching my school (Mercer) play Alabama in 2017 was not good for anyone. I'd rather see the NCAA do something to share TV revenue similar to the NFL.

That would keep keep the boat from being rocked to much while leaving room for independents, Group of Five teams, or teams that didn't win their conference but are strong enough to merit a second chance.

That would require the least amount of tweaking for sure and give a team like UCF the opportunity to put up or shut up. I'd be all about that.

Yipper, I'd be on board with this solution. I want to see how the UCF's would fair in a playoff atmosphere. I think they should make it mandatory that the highest ranked Group of 5 team represent these conferences in the playoffs. I just don't want to see CFB manipulate the system so 8 Power 5 teams are the representatives.
