Favre Watch.....Again

This just makes me think the guy is broke, or headed for being broke, and he has GOT to play (for the cash grab).

Remember how Michael Jordan had a bad gambling habit? These pro athletes are sometimes doing what they're doing...not because they want to anymore, but because they have to.

He's either got some pretty messed up behavioral & coping problems, or he's in debt up to his ears and there's no end in sight.

My family is pretty good friends with Terry Funk (the pro wrestler). I grew up around the guy, from the age of 5 or 6. I've hung out with him in my college years because he lived near the college campus. Terry would "retire" from wrestling, then he'd be back in the mix again...or over in Japan for a few months (they love him in Japan), and it was always because he had mismanaged his finances and he needed the money to make it through another year. He has retired and un-retired about 15 times in the past 15 years.

All I know is that it's gotten comical with Favre.

Hooray for pro athletes who have the courage and the sense to stop when they need to.

See this is where I disagree. As a Cowboy fan I used to watch Favre and think, "I hate playing him but man does he love playing and can ball."

Then about 3-4 years ago he started this retirement stuff. Fine if it happens once..maybe twice but we are going on what...6-7 times now..sometimes multiple times in one year. To me he is an attention whore. If you aren't sure, keep your mouth shut because of the media. He knows this. He forced Green Bays hand yet he tries to convince people that they showed him the door unfairly. When a coach tried to rein him in like Mangini did he complained he was mistreated....though it has been shown that only coaches that have reined him succeeded with him. He has alienated teammates and people are losing it if they think he didn't see a cash grab here and change his mind again. The media sucks with it but Favre tarnished his own image. The guy just told Peter King weeks ago that he felt too run down after summer workouts to play for a season and now he decides to after camp?Give me a break.

I don't think anybody can say who was at fault in the Favre vs Packer situation. According to Favre's side, it was Green Bay that forced him out. I don't think anybody knows who started the rumors of him coming back or not either.

It's all speculative at this point, but I can see how both sides would have a solid argument.

Why does people being irritated by Favre matter to you? Why does that bother you? Are you losing money because of it? Is you life somehow becoming more complicated because of it? Has your children's grades dropped because of it? If folks bring it up and judge Favre, why do you care?

See how that works?

See, that's what I'm talking about. Why does that matter to you? Why does that bother you? Are you losing money because of it? Is you life somehow becoming more complicated because of it? Has your children's grades dropped because of it? If Favre held a news conference every day of the off-season saying NO, and then a week before the season starts he signs with somebody, why do you care?

People are so sick of the Farve stuff yet they keep tuning in to everyone reporting it. Then they come to message boards and talk about it some more. If you're sick of it, don't watch ESPN, don't read an article about him, don't click on a thread about him, don't make a post about him.

I didn't even know Favre signed until 11:00 last night. I don't get it forced down my throat like most seem to be because I don't watch the crap that is ESPN. And when I've had my fill of it here, I won't click on another thread about it.

Pretty simple to me.

Here is what is simple to me....this is a football sports board. Brett Favre is a story. He has been for years. My opinion is that he is an attention whore. I like sports talk, sports news and radio. I hear it. Why does it matter to you that you have to browbeat someone who doesn't like the guy?Its a simple opinion on an athlete that doesn't affect my life EXCEPT my opinion is someone needs to crap down his neck. How hard it that Speedy?:toast2:

I'll agree with GP above and I said it in the post you responded to...its a money grab.

I'm not watching ESPN. I'm watching NFLN. And it's all over NFLN. And that's my problem.

Then blame them as well. Send them a letter or an email. That is still THE MEDIA who has chosen to make Favre their material over everything else. He's not getting paid extra money over being their main subject or material. You guys make it seem like he worked out some extra deal with ESPN and NFL network where he said he would come back if they paid him big bucks so they could cover him non stop. He's not benefiting from any of this, and it's the exact opposite. He's losing tons of fans from the media coverage on him. Hell, he should have just as much of a beef with the media as fans like you who hate him now for it. Their constant coverage has made his reputation much worse and gotten so many people so sick and tired of him. But again, that's the media, not him making them do it.

Well, that's your media for you. And that's why I don't watch ESPN any more, except for games. That's it. I have an internet where I can find info I want, not what the media thinks I should want.

If you're looking to get other news about what's going on around the league, you should know by now that that's the last place you need to be looking. If it's not Favre it's TO. If it's not TO it's Chad OC. You ought to know this by now.

How can you be sick of seeing something you know they're going to show you, yet you keep tuning in expecting them to show you something different? What's that saying about doing the same thing and expecting different results?

And what you're complaining about has everything to do with ESPN, not with Favre. How about boycotting ESPN and complaining about them? I agree that the Favre watch stuff is annoying as well, but that's ESPN that runs that circus not Favre. They choose to make everything about Favre, not him.

So people can't vent on here anymore or what. Yesterday I was not having the best day and was sick of hearing about what color Favre's poop was and then I come on here and get beat up for it. I expect you both to go around policing everyone on here if they are ranting about something from here on out........Sheesh.

I, personally, enjoy a good rant. I like to read another person's rant from time to time, like the Pet Peeves thread, it's theraputic or something. I see everyone on here do it from time to time. Hell, Herv has the best rants I think I ever seen, I get a kick out of reading them because every once in awhile I just want to ***** about something too and blow of some steam about something that irritates the crap out of me.

What's it matter where I get my sports news? (mostly NFLN BTW) When a one hour show is consumed by 40 mins of the same ole crap it just gets old. And the media is to blame, sure, and so if Favre, he likes the drama, he likes the attention.

PS Favre is still an asshat.

I'm sorry Harcore Texan if you took it personally, and I just wanted to point out that your rant should be more centered at ESPN and the NFL network for making this Favre saga what it is. I'd argue that the Vick saga is even worse actually, because Vick has only had like two good seasons in his entire career and has missed the last two seasons, and he still gets talked about over and over and lately there has been a lot more Vick talk than Favre talk with the exception of the last two days. I understand why you're sick and tired of Favre and I am as well, the same way I am about Vick especially, but I can't blame Vick or Favre because ESPN won't let go of this thing they have with constantly talking about them on and on and on. Vick is just a guy coming out of prison who is trying to keep a low profile as he re-enters the league, and it isn't his fault that ESPN chooses to talk about him over and over, nor is it Favre's either. My post towards you wasn't to denounce you or what your feelings were, but simply to put things in perspective of where the real blame here should go which is the media who won't stop covering this.

I love this twitter quote by Eric Winston I read in today's Sporting News Today:

Man, how bad did Favre play the Vikings and get everything he wanted? No camp. Check! $10 million. Check! Super Bowl. We'll see.

Favre needs to fall into a black hole. If there's one large enough to suck that ego into it.

I just wanted to point out that it's not just the fans who are tired of all the Favre and Vick hoopla.

Quote from Mario:

(on how Saints RB Reggie Bush could care less about what the media has to say about their relationship) "That's what the media is about, man, rough stories. I will say this, I'm getting tired of seeing (Minnesota Vikings QB) Brett Favre and (Philadelphia Eagles QB) Michael Vick on TV, and I'm sure they are, too."

For all you Farve haters I bet you were happy that he went one for four last night.

Actually, he was doing a pretty good job of putting the ball where the receivers were supposed to be. The problem was that they weren't there.

The man does seem to know that offense already. The problem is he doesn't know his receivers, yet. And his receivers don't seem to know the offense, yet.

I wasn't a big Favre fan before all this retirement mess. But I guess I'm a hater now. It's probably bad Karma but I don't want him to do well. I'd prefer Sage get in there and take this job.

It was just one game last night and I am looking for Brett to open things up a bit more in his next game. I'm a Sage fan also and I think he'll get the starting job back around midseason due to an injury to pretty boy Brett Farve.

This article is worth reading, and reflects many of the thoughts that I have on the subject. There are those of you who are excited to see Favre back in uniform, just like there are those excited about seeing Vick in a uniform other than jump suit orange. Both returns will turn out to be fiascos. But, Vick can only hope to squeeze in the back door for a back door role, whereas Favre, being given the "keys to the city" stands to destroy the makeup, morale and entire season of an otherwise success-bound team. This move was based on some higher-up's faith............not blind faith..........but, just down right dumb faith.

Prima donna Favre ruins a good thing

As soon as he said Taveras has shown a glimpse of competence I stopped reading because right then and their the author proves to have zero football IQ. Oh and Sage was not signed as a FA in the offseason .. the Texans traded Sage to the Vikings.

Another hack writer who goes with the flow without having an original thought of his own.

The statement of a "glimpse" of competence is no different than our own staff having said the same of players such as Okam. Labelling Sage as a FA? Doesn't change much of anything in this situation. Respected writers have slipped up in their articles much worse than this benign example.

This may lead some trying to say the author demonstrates zero football IQ, but the same cannot be said of his level of common sense.
