Fast Mock Draft 2.0

The Houston Texans Select:

Arthur Jones, DT, Syracuse

I am getting tired of Okoye. Maybe Jones can step in and be that penetrating DT that we need. Good upside. Injury worries. High motor player. Really good value here in the 4th IMO.

Hurrah!!

I really like Jones as a prospect. I'd be pleased if the Texans got him in the 4th.

I doubt we finish round 5 at this pace... We are picking as slow as the last mock. And the entire point of this mock was to have less users picking for more teams to speed things up.

What does everyone think? Try for round 5?

board hits in general have slowed down, people are just ready for next week to begin now. It's nobodys fault really & you've done an outstanding job moderating & keeping things moving. I'll be out of town for the next week.

We will do round 5. Same rules. If you dont have it in you for a 5th round then let me know and we can delegate the team.

I am not game for a 5th round. It was fun guys, but if we do this next year, I think we should:
A) Each person only has a team or two

and

B) Assign teams earlier so we can do some actual research.

Just some thoughts

Well if the draft does stop at 4 rounds I am good with the Texans draft.

1.) Ryan Mathews, RB, Fresno State
2.) Morgan Burnett, FS, Georgia Tech
3.) Amari Spievey, CB, Iowa
4.) Arthur Jones, DT, Syracuse

I agree that an OL might be worked in here somewhere. And my only regret MIGHT be not drafting a corner in round 1. But with Kyle Wilson gone I felt it would be a reach to take Patrick Robinson who I like as the 3rd CB in the draft. But on the flip side I LOVE having a #1RB for Slaton to spell, rather than another medoicre guy to pair with Slaton. Speivey and Jones are good value for where I selected them.

SM if you want me to take on another team I will.

How did we get through 7 rds last year?

PMing your picks ahead is the answer.

I was counting on Rd.5 for both the Steelers and the Chargers.

The Patriots select Javier Arenas, CB, Alabama

Javier%20Arenas.jpg

With CB being a need, and an under publicized need for a PR with Welker being out. This 1st team All-American, under a Belichick protege's defense, makes a lot of sense IMO.

Great pick

Arenas will be a good nickle CB and a terrific PR. Value is off the charts.

OUTSTANDING pick man!

The Cincinnati Bengals select Austen Lane DE, Murray St.
KHKZMFKXXMKRZRG.20091022134843.jpg

Well, I wanted Arenas, who in the 4th round offers TREMENDOUS value, to be my nickle cb and return specialist. Another player I didn't expect to be available was Austen Lane. You can never have too many pass rushers. While it's not an immediate need, Lane could develop into a great DE and solidify my front 7... or defense in general.

I'm itching to pull the trigger on a *certain* player...keep your hands off him! :bat:

The Jets have a pick in the 4th and a pick in the 5th. The Panthers and Dolphins got nothing in the 5th.

The real draft for those two teams is in the 6th and 7th where they get a ton of picks.

I am not whining.

Really.

Sucks for the Panthers because I think they gave up 2nd round pick for no reason to take Everette Brown. At least the Phins' got Marshall...

24.) Philadelphia Eagles - Sean Weatherspoon, LB, Missouri
37.) Philadelphia Eagles - Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida
55.) Philadelphia Eagles - Jahvid Best, RB, California
70.) Philadelphia Eagles - Jerome Murphy, CB, South Florida
86.) Philadelphia Eagles - Thaddeus Gibson, LB, Ohio State
105.) Philadelphia Eagles - Marshall Newhouse, OG, TCU
121.) Philadelphia Eagles - Greg Hardy, DE, Ole Miss

This is purely a value pick. I think good teams have this luxury. I've been agonizing over this one for a good while and still don't comprehend why he's still on the board. My other options were of course OT, but I think one of the targeted guys might be there later. This one may be a head scratcher to some, but oh well.

I agree, he is a good value pick here.

Next year I am up for seven rounds, and we should make sure those that sign up - want and are prepared to go to seven. The three and four round stuff is garbage in my opinion - either mock the draft or not.

This mock has taken us 2 weeks to complete 4 rounds with a 6 hr clock. So next year you can expect 4 weeks to complete 7 rounds.

We could schedule a five hour block of time one night and knock it out. I have been in fantasy leagues with drunk asses and strippers that can knock out 14 rounds in a sixteen team league in seven hours. We can do this. :shades:

Yeah that is a good idea. But getting 16 GM's together might be a bit dificult.

I don't think it would be that difficult if you schedule it early enough. Select your GM's right after the combine and make the draft for Mid-April. Plenty of time for all to set their boards and have the draft on a Sat. eve or Sun. afternoon.

I'm surpised that someone hasn't set up a mock draft system similar to what is used for fantasy sport.

Or if someone has, can you post a link.

I agree.

For me, part of this is that it forces me to learn about more of the players that are going to show up later in the draft. I really wanted to go 7.

But, I know it's totally not feasible this year.

I'd be willing to try to beat that time , under the same conditions , in a mock draft , for scientific research of course .

We could even do it where everyone creates their draft board and turns them in to a central person. Then that central person goes through and bam, bam, bam... makes the picks. It might take a couple of days for that process to go through. The "picker" could post a pick at a time and people could watch. If there are questions, the picker could send PM's or make posts asking for clarifications.

The owners could create a mock where they put down 4-5 guys they're targetting for each round.

You could set up something almost like DraftTek where you create your board and then you assign weights to certain positions and players to indicate where you'd be interested in taking certain people, etc.

OK. That might be too much work. But at least you do your work up front for your teams and then you're done with it.

This

We did a 7 rd mock last year. It was really fun.

I'm for giving drafters 1 week after the combine to prepare. Then do the draft on a Sunday afternoon.

It seems as though people are all fired up for the first 2 rds or so. But suddenly get to busy or lose interest. This makes it difficult for other drafters.

We should do a mock like a FF draft. Do the draft all at once. This will weed out people who aren't really committed to doing a full 7 rd mock and will also help with the time frame problems some seem to be having.

Apparently it was too much to ask people to PM a list of 4-5 players to SM. When their pick was coming uo within that range in this mock.

This is why I enjoyed doing the 7 rd mock last year. Apparently not all of the people in this mock feel this way.

It's fun on the real draft day in rd 4 Glover Quin gets picked and because I looked at drafting him for my mock team (which I didn't pick him) I knew alot about him. That I wouldn't have otherwise known.

I wonder if we could go on other teams sites to find some of their draft junkies ? That would be interesting , I like to compare my opinions with other folks from a teams region .

I also look at many mock drafts from the experts and I swear they start to look like ours . This is not saying they changed their whole draft , just some curious picks .

I would be willing to do a couple of 7 round mocks , say starting on a Friday at nine , five minutes a pick , until 1:00 or 2:00 am and then finishing at , say , 10:00 pm the next night .

124.) New York Jets - The Pencil Neck

125.) Dallas Cowboys - Kaiser Toro

126.) San Diego Chargers - steelbtexan

127.) Seattle Seahawks - Texan4Ever

128.) Minnesota Vikings - Honoring Earl 34

129.) Indianapolis Colts - Shaft75

130.) New Orleans Saints - Texan4Ever

131.) Cincinnati Bengals - Ole Miss Texan

I had really wanted FS Robert Johnson in this spot.

But, with the 124th pick, the J E T S, Jets, Jets, Jets take...

660229.jpg

Jamar Chaney, ILB

Walter Football has him as the 2nd rated ILB in the draft and a 2nd/3rd rounder. NFL Draft Scout puts him in the 4-5 range so this looks like about the right spot for him. Personally, I've got him ranked as a late 3rounder.

The Jets need depth at the ILB and this kid could make a difference. He's good on special teams and he used to play the Will. He's good in coverage. Not the most skilled pass rusher but if you give him a lane, he'll get there.

With the 126th pick in the NFL mock Draft the San Diego Chargers select Anthony Dixon Miss. St.

Dixon,Hardesty and Sproles help fix the chargers dormant run game.

Dixon was a steal at this point in the draft. Value over need.

With the 127th pick, the Seahawks select...

Trevard Lindley, CB

trevard-lindley.jpg

Best CB on the board IMO, the Seahawks could use him to bolster there DBs now that they have Earl Thomas.

Good value, Seattle has rebuilt their secondary with good young prospects.

Let's go Honoring Earl! I'm ready when you are!

The Vikings select Quentin Scott FS Northern Iowa . When you're as deep as the Vikings , you can roll the dice on guys with huge ceilings .

Free safety Quentin Scott impressed scouts from eight teams at Northern Iowa’s pro day on March 31st. Scott (6-3 7/8, 224) worked out as both a defensive back and a wide receiver and put together a really good workout. He ran a 4.40-second and 4.45-second 40-yard dash, had a 35-inch vertical leap, 10-1 broad jump, 4.18-second short shuttle, 6.88-second three-cone drill and completed 13 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds. His arms were measured at 34 5/8 inches.
