There were several football games this weekend that mirror what football games are all about, including the Pats/Steelers-Cowboys/49'ers-Jags/Jets, etc. All of these teams-and yes there were many others- played to win, whatever it took- no 'playing not to lose' here.
Several teams have re-invented themselves (Pats do it every year) since the Texans have been in the league with new coaches and almost entirely new rosters and many are reaping benefits. The Bengals, an NFL door mat a couple years ago, seem poised to be a power house. The Bills are playing tough, as are the Jags--even the Browns, last years worse team in the NFL, are showing signs of life and the list of teams on the rise goes on.
So, is there a common denominator-something the Texans don't have- that has been the driving force behind so many other teams success? IMO, yes, and that is coaching that starts with the HC and filters all the way down. Capers has finally admitted to what many posters have already accused him of-- 'coaching not to lose'- because of the 'new' team label. So, how do you take a team from a philosophy that contains the word 'lose' to one that emphasizes 'win?'
What will we see this Sunday from the Texans that will be different from the first two weeks? Capers is no dummy--he's got to no he's on the 'hot seat.' He's played his OC blame 'trump' card, so whats next? If, after all we've been through with expectations and changes (some late), Sunday is just the 'same O same O'--well, I don't know. Four years is a long time to wait/reap the rewards of obtaining a goal and fail...let's hope that what we've seen is a mirage and 'everything' is all better!!!!!!
