ex-Texans WR Diontae Johnson

In case anyone is wondering, the Texans are 22nd in priority on the waiver wire. So even if they file a claim, if any of the 21 teams ahead file a claim they are out. And both the Chargers and Bucs need help and have a higher waiver priority. It’s a longshot, but if I am NIck I file the claim and hope.

J Alexander in the Chronic also posited Richie James as a possible. OBJ is an obvious short term rental option as well.

Any of these 3 can work out of the slot. Johnson is the most talented at this point of the 3 but the least likely to be here.

Breaking news! Texans at 22 got the claim on Dionte Johnson. I'm actually really surprised. I get he turned teams off, but he is too talented to bypass. Huge if....but IF he is a model citizen here, he has a chance to find a home as a real #2 to Nico.

Gagging while I post this.................

Why would your gag reflex be on alert?

You must have liked how the team looked in last years playoffs.

Dude can play and that should be all that matters, unless you would rather not give the Texans their best shot at winning a SB. If he plays well I hope they re-sign him.

I'm so glad the Bob McNair era of Texans football is a thing of the past and winning has become priority number one. The McNair's are finally after all of these years letting football people run their org. About time

Agreed. My first thought was Bob McNair would never approve of this signing. Absolute worst case, he is a very short term rental and he is dumped in the off-season. Best case, he becomes a model citizen, re-signs here and becomes a very solid #2 would also help Nico’s game as well.

This reminds me very much of something the BB era New England teams would do, and most often..it worked out. When it didn’t…no worries. Toss the guy out like old newspaper and move on. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Big thumbs up on this one from me.

I’m
SMDH. If used right, he’s a borderline #1 in this league. He is very legit. The question isn’t his talent, it’s whether Bobby will crap the bed and then we will get your I told you so. This dude has serious talent.
Such serious talent that he has been all over the league and quits in teams. Ya that’s the dude the Texans need . If he was so good he’d be on a team making a difference!

I’m not a fan of the player after what he did in Baltimore. But he was the best talent on the street and desperate times call for desperate measures.

Best case scenario: He carves out a role here and gives the team a much-needed weapon for playoff football. Then the team and him decide the fit was good enough to sign a team-friendly deal next year.

Worst case: He refuses to enter a game or just does absolutely nothing and the team is one and done anyway.

I appreciate Caserio for doing whatever it takes to field the most talented team possible.

Did he beat his baby mama? Get caught with a WWII style bong on social media? Any murder allegations hanging over his head?

I didn't know McNair had an issue with headcases.

He may be wanting to prove to teams he can play & be a part of a team. Maybe in Houston, maybe somewhere else. There may be a perfectly good reason in his mind why he's acted the way he's acted... timing was wrong & next season he's going to be all business.

He may just be auditioning for FA.

Totally agree. No way would McNair approve of this if he were here. Winning has finally become the number one priority around here.

I'm hoping for the best but not expecting much. He played for a couple of coaches who are considered a player's coach (Mike Tomlin and John Harbaugh) so I don't know how much more DeMeco could motivate him. Also curious to see if the playbook can be simplified for him to contribute on short notice (rest of the season)...Slowik is definitely going to have to cook.

Must have been that 1 catch in 4 games for 6 yards. What is Nick's plan if Johnson refuses to enter the game? Can we run out and get somebody else to play during the game?
Ravens fans have two words for Johnson. Good riddance. He left a pretender to a contender, dropped balls, fell down, and when asked to take the field, he refused to do so.

Maybe he plays better for Houston. I hope he plays Wednesday as he’s going to have sights on him if he does.

You know what he's talking about. The McNair's, for a long time, operated as if they wanted Boy Scouts, and no one else. They wanted to do things "the right way." That's why there was so much fanfare when McNair basically made them sign Ed Reed (that was a disaster, but that's another issue). Both Ed Reed and Brian Cushing were considered major "reaches" for this team, and went outside of their previous way of operating.

He also had just 39 snaps in those 4 games and just 5 targets. I wouldn't have quit like he did, but I'd sure be as pissed as he probably was.

Do you see his situation as similar to Stephon Diggs prior to coming to Houston as far as not getting the targets he wanted? Hopefully, he will be as successful before Stefon was hurt.

Worst case is no big deal.

Not saying he's right, but Carolina signed him to be WR1 and next offseason he will be a FA. He was playing fairly well. Then he gets traded to the Ravens where he becomes WR3-4, how do you think that was/is going to effect his earning power in FA? I can definitely see where he was coming from, although I disagree with his actions. This wont be an issue on the Texans.

He's been really good in both Pittsburgh and Carolina.

I hope he plays too.

Not shocking coming from a fan of the team he told to F-Off.

He has reason to play against the Ravens. Probably wont due to the game so soon.

Desperation being what it is and not expecting to be more than one and done.

(Need all the help we can get in playoffs, but it would take a miracle I don't believe he provides to go deep) hope Im wrong. Would be nice to beat the Ravens... better to do so in playoffs than regular season but if they could do both..
That'd be great...
