ESPN Power Rankings

Am I the only one surprised the Jags are at #4? Good god I admit they're record is good so far but it's not like they've proven they can dominate anyone.

And Falcons still in the top 10? I know one loss shouldn't overcome 5 wins, but Vick is struggling and their defense was just blown up for 56.

I am. I know wins are wins, but winning all those games with under a minute left can mean either they are a great come from behind, never say die, fight till the end, clutch 4th quarter team....or it can also mean they are this close to being 0-7. The difference between them and the 1-6 Dolphins is just a few minutes of football. Crazy.

Sun. Sep. 12 @Buffalo Win 13-10
Sun. Sep. 19 Denver Win 7-6
Sun. Sep. 26 @Tennessee Win 15-12
Sun. Oct. 3 Indianapolis Loss 24-17
Sun. Oct. 10 @San Diego Loss 34-21
Sun. Oct. 17 Kansas City Win 22-16
Sun. Oct. 24 @Indianapolis Win 27-24

The Bills are 1-5. And the Jags almost lost to them.

The Broncos game was a gift...they lost that game but for a fluke fumble.

The Titans win looked impressive at the time...but who hasn't beaten them latley?

K.C. was a 1 win team. The Texans took care of them easier than the Jags.

Indy...the only win that impresses me.

Last year Carolina had, what was it, 7 or 8 final-minute victories, and look where they are now...

Just like the 03 Panthers, the Jags have gotten all the breaks so far, but at some point their luck will change, so it'll be interesting to see how they fare from that point on.

Just because their wins aren't dominating shouldn't take anything away from them. They have done enough to win and that is all that matters. It is not luck when you do it 5 times in 7 weeks, they're doing something right.

Hey I'm certainly not saying the Jags dont deserve those wins, I'm just saying that at some stage things might start going against them and they're gonna have to be ready for that. :)

I believe that is what makes this game such a great game this weekend. You have two teams that have been pulling games out late recently and have performed well in the 4th quarter this season. We have had our share of 4th quarter games in our brief existence and I believe that makes us all the more prepared for this game since our offense is way more productive this year. :thumbup

I think people give power rankings way too much stock. It's an interesting way to see how a particular journalist, or several in the case of ESPN's, view the power structure of the league but they're very insignificant imo. Nothing better to illustrate this than trying to make your own, ESPN has a poll every week where you can do your own power rankings all the way from 1 to 32. It's pretty tough once you get past 5 or 6. What subtle differences seperate the 13 teams with only one or two victories? In the end, it's really just the cream of the crop, and a bunch of other teams.

That being said, I was very amused that the guy who does cnn/sports illustrated power rankings put the Cheifs all the way up at #9.

We lost to Indy, Jags, Texans, Chargers and the Vikings....is just the first half of the season...and we know that the NFL schedule is tough...the truth of which teams are whom will arise on the second half of the season.

Don't be amuzed. KC finally got it's act together. In a weekly power ranking you have to base it on the current power performance, what KC did in week 1, 2 and 3 has little to do with the way they are playing now. In the first 4-5 week's their is a lot of movement in power rankings. This week I had teams move 11 Places. I love doing power rankings, it's a passion of mine. Here's what my Power rankings look liked this week.

1. New England 6-0
2. Philadelphia 6-0
3. Minnesota 5-1 ~ 2
4. New York Jets 5-1 ~ 2
5. Jacksonville 5-2 ~ 5
6. Pittsburgh 5-1 ~ 2
7. Indianapolis 4-2 ~ -4
8. San Diego 4-3 ~ 4
9. Detroit 4-3 ~ 7
10. Cleveland 3-3 ~ 5
11. Houston 3-3 ~ Raised 3 points, bye Jack! Thats a record!

15. St. Louis 4-3 ~ -8
16. New York Giants 4-2 ~ 8
17. Atlanta 4-2 ~ 7
18. Green Bay 3-4 ~ 4
19. Arizona 2-4 I have to put Arizona ahead of Seattle

But I am amuzed. Even though you have the Jags at #5, I don't think they'll get an invite to a BCS bowl. Their fans don't travel well. They rarely make it to downtown Jacksonville for the home games. No soup for you!
