ESPN Article on VY...calling him the Next MJ

My gosh I didn't think it could get any crazier and now I read they craziest of all the loud mouth pundits throws his hat into the ring. Sorry but I knew someone would throw it out here. I wonder where the quotes come from?My apologies to all.:) I can't stand the guy but it is an opinion.

An NFL personnel director who encouraged me to pick USC told me on Thursday: "That's the closest thing I've seen to Michael Jordan since he left Chicago. I watched this kid every game this year, and he just got better and better and better until you finally step back and say, 'I've never seen anything like him.' I don't want to hear another word about David Carr. The Texans will never live it down if they don't take Vince Young."

Vince may be the man or not for the Texans, but Skip Bayless is the last person who's opinion I would want.

Vince Young made Matt-Reggie-Lendale look like third rounders? Excuse me while I wet myself in awe of the three-point margin of victory.

The rest of the article consists of much of the same baseless, overstated hype that has been lavished on Vince since the Rose Bowl. Irrelevant or flat out innaccurate comparisons, the typical noise about how "everyone, and I do mean everyone" would sacrifice their firstborn to see Vince a Texan ...

When will it all end?

Skip Bayless changes his mind about people more than anyone.

The morning of the Rose Bowl he was calling Vince overrated and that Texas was a terrible team. He also has Jay Cutler going to the Titans at #3.
 
Football is like basketball how? There is no comparison between two different sports like football and basketball on an even plane. They have nothing in common. This is getting ridiculous!!!!
 
Thought I heard him a couple of days ago on 1st and 10 arguing with Woody Page saying just the exact opposite. Total windbag.

I assume this was directed at me.

I am not comparing football to basketball, I am saying the Bayless just states ridiculous stuff. I think of him like a sports type radio-shock jock; He just says off the wall stuff to get a reaction out of people. So to consider anything from Bayless as insightful, is just silly.
 
Did you all see this article on ESPN.com. Its pretty much saying that Vince Young is the guy for us to draft. I agree with this because I feel like Bush is going to be a wash in the league. He never gets hit, once he gets hit he will get hurt and be a waste. The NFL is much more aggressive and physical then college ball and these guys dont miss tackles. Bush has only been effective on missed tackles when he gets stuck he is bad. For example in the national championship game he showed that he wasnt very talented. He is too small to do anything in the NFL he had one big play in that game and that was off missed tackles once again.

Couldn't agree more. He is a tabloid reporter and he was talking all kinds of crud on Texas before the game. He likes to stir up trouble. I just find it funny that Lopez, McClain, Bayless, etc all have guys saying different stuff. How many personell guys and executives are giving out this "inside info." They will run out of teams soon..lol

V Man. my comments were not aimed at you but rather the article that compared him to Michael Jordan.
 
Things that I think right now:

1. The Texans will trade down or take Bush.

2. There is a lot of time between now and the draft.

3. Lots of stuff can happen in this much time. Not too long ago, peeps didn't think VY was going to come out, and some thought Texas would be destroyed ala Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl in hostile territory. Maybe Vince ends up selling himself to the Texans between now and then--he is lobbying hard now (local radio, he is gonna be the grand marshall of the MLK parade) and maybe workout stuff make things go one step beyond. Maybe Kubiak decides he doesn't need a first pick RB, and wants Young. BIGTIME GOOFY RUMOR ALERT: Somebody told me today that John Elway wants to work with and mentor VY because he reminds him of himself. Oh my.

4. Ayyyyy! The world is going to spin out of its axis because Skip Bayless and I have similar opinions on something. (Actually, I agree with him on a few more things, but he is so blasted annoying, that even when I agree with him, I still think he is the platonic form of a gasbag and nothing would make me happier than for him to get crosswise with ESPN and get leave the public airwaves, as maybe a public service or something. Too bad being an ***** blowhard isn't an FCC violation.)

I don't get the Michael Jordan references, though. Two completely different sports, for so many reasons. The comparisons just don't register in my brain, no matter how hard I try to make the square peg fit into the round hole.
 
I saw him and Woody in Cold Pizza this morning .... Was pretty suprised to hear Skip Clueless ... errr Bayless say he thought the Texans would / should take Young .... Wasnt a surprise to hear Woody Page say the same thing .

You will once you watch him play on a regular basis. Like Jordan, VY can beat a defense just by being VY. He's got that kind of effect.

BTW--VY is the hottest athlete in the country from a marketing standpoint. He is going to be on the level of Jordan and Woods in this regard.

Skip's been a hater for a while, but that's because he was still getting over the Ohio State/UT game. He could not pick the outcome of a game if his life depended on it. He still hasn't really come around, he's just glad VY declared so Ohio State can face a freshman QB and take care of business later this year in Austin and possible finish on top...;)

I've got nothing against Skip, or Woody for that matter. Their little Cold Pizza debates are funny to me.

However, I take their opinions with a grain of salt. What they have to say is worth no more or no less than any of us, as far as I'm concerned.

Agreed. The only thing these round table guys are ever missing is a big red nose and face paint. I too trust the team to make the right moves reagrdless of what they are...

Can you seriously not make the connection between Young and Jordan? It is in a word, GREATNESS, some athletes simply have that aura about them. This is the largest component to why Young should be drafted by the Texans; his greatest ability transcends technacalities about throwing motions or the difference between being under center or in the shotgun, dude just finds a way to win. Jordan showcased it when he hit that game winning shot in the 1982 NCAA championship game against Georgetown, a favored, powerhouse team led by Patrick Ewing. If you don't understand those paralles, then the entire concept of sports, which is grit, determination, will, and cooperation is totally lost on you...
Let me see anyone on this board say Young ain't got that...

Everyone knows that VY plays football and MJ played basketball. Everyone gets that it was two totally different sports. But only ever so often does a player come around that can be greatness. That greatness varies from sport to sport, of course.
 
The only person who could be another Jordan would have to be a WR who also played CB and was the best at both positions. What made Jordan so great was that not only was he the best player on offense, but he was the best player on defense.

Even though Bayless is flaky at times, he is correct, the Texans should go with V.Y. over Bush. His value to the franchise in the near and long-term future will exceed Bush and give them a btter chance to win. If Young goes off to the Titans, the Texans will definately regret selecting Bush. More fans will watch the Texans on T.V., more will come and stay at the games and lastly; memorabilia sales will multiply by a factor of 5 to 10 X of current sales.

I could not disagree more with this thinking. MJ was a great skilled player who could jacked up a ton of shots and scored 50 in a losing effort on many occasions. What defined him later was putting the team on his back by getting others involved and essentially making them better. This in turn made the team better and put the jewels on the fingers. When they won the team won and when they lost MJ took the blame. MJ had the respect of his team and the gift to be the man when it mattered most (the "it'), but to be clutch you had to be in the game 1st.

I think this lack of understanding defines the anti-VY crowd as well as defines the Pro-VY fans. Those that see this in VY are more cringing at what might happen if he plays in Tenn. Those that are having a tough time connecting the dots think its all overhype and that it derived from one game...he has done it since the high school championship in the Astrodome.

I'll be happy with whatever the Texans decide, this is more of an observation of the lack of understanding from those bickering...
 
I really wish people in the media would stop bringing up these cross-sport comparisons, especially between the best professional basketball player of all time and a football player that hasn't even been drafted yet, much less played a down of professional football.
 
Vince will change the game of football the way Serena Williams changed the game of tennis.
