CND - just curious if the 'heel injury' that Eric Berry has been having all through training camp and his achille's tendon tear might be related from your professional opinion. (Note I haven't been able to determine if indeed it's the same leg so far from the reports).

Achilles tendinosis, the slow breakdown of the Achilles tendon structure where the Achilles tendon degenerates and become inflamed , is a classic prodrome of things to come. Chronic and progressive pain and tenderness and swelling in the calf and/or the Achilles area (which extends to the region of the heel where an underlying bone spur may be found that is contributing to the process) is the rule. When this is first recognized, long-term rest and stretching and rehab may resolve the issue. In some cases, the process of degeneration has advanced so far (unraveling large portions of the tendon fibers) that surgery is performed despite the fact that there has not been a formal rupture. However, if this condition it is ignored or not patiently dealt with, the degeneration will progress until the rupture ultimately occurs, usually with some final applied stress incident.
