East West Shrine game

Yeah, Bennett seemed like a really nice guy yesterday.

It was nice hanging out with you and your mom and Aunt Gary.

It was also nice meeting GlassHalfFull and Doc. We had a nice time. :tiphat:

Thanks for info Gary. Good to have eyes on the field. Ok, I watched the game which was a first for me on East- West. never been very interested but thought there were some players I wanted to evaluate.

First, let me get this out of the way. Ian Johnson was basically little factor as he hadf one catch for about 8 yards. I think he was 11 for 36 yards. Very disappointing for me as I had been defending him as a sleeper in the Slaton style. I became impressed with Johnson two seasons ago and this season he was ok but numbers were down a lot. It is now looking as if this season was not the aberration but two seasons ago. I just do not understand what is happening. I now have admitted my mistake and will go on.

Let me say that I focused on guys that I thought we could draft after 1st round. Also and you may know this, underclassmen were not eligble to play and that reduced my target by a lot. The Houston Chronicle had an article Sunday about game but 99% was about Williams an RB. He did well but so did some other backs and nothing was mentioned except in stats. IMO another poor job by the local rag on a game in our back yard. So a hearty BOO! to the sports dep't manager.

Now, I'll shut up and share what I saw.

Marlon Lucky RB: very good game and went for a long touch down. May be available in later rounds. Announcers referred to an injury that had reduced his playing time during season, but he is definitely ok now. Can take a hit.

Gartrell Johnson RB; WOW! This guy has the goods. http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/dsprofile.php?pyid=61515&draftyear=2009&genpos=RB Saturday, he got 63 yards on 10 attempts and showed plenty of power. http://www.examiner.com/x-2516-Colorado-State-Rams-Examiner~y2009m1d17-Gartrell-Johnson-posts-big-first-half-Utah-handles-CSU-women I was very impressed with his game. I am a big Shonn Green fan, but if we miss and can get Gartrell at some point I am ok.

Alex Boone an LT I was hoping would come out last year, did not stand out except when he got a flag on a hold. I think he has picked up a bit of unneeded weight.

Javorskie Lane RB that I was looking at as a possible 7th round but man he is a tub of butter. He was announced at 280 but someone be fibbing. Got stopped 3 times on the goal line and lost me as a backer even as a walk on FA. Find a bagel big guy as you are not an NFL player.

Lawrence Sidbury DE that was always being spoken of (especially when someone notice his name incorrect on his jersey.) Had one very good play at end of game but at least a couple penalties. Did not do much for me.

Bear Pascoe TE a replacement for Breuner? Little speed at his size but made one great catch. On one play he had a good block that will make coaches takes notice as it was downfield.

Pretty hard for me to follow more players as I forgot my roster at work. Hope this helps.

Found this link that gives more info. http://www.nfldraftdog.com/College%20All-Star/2009_east_west_shrine_game.htm Steve

the play we both saw when Boone was flagged for holding was him at the RT position right? he is a huge mf'er, but I don't think he fits in the mold of what Gibbs desires, which is too bad cause in shape, this guy could really pancake some people.

Aggie fan agreeing with you on Lane. A shame that someone who is on the verge of a career isn't taking better care of himself or trying to get in shape. some of the blame can be placed on the line not being together for a long time, but the J Train just looked crappy out there.

Roy Miller is going to be a great pro player. The guy was unblockable at times in the game. He held his ground pretty well against double teams and was explosive as heck off of the ball. He probably won't go until the 3rd or 4th, but he's going to be a bonafide steal. He was very impressive.

I called my shot on an earlier thread about Lucky. I said that the Texans should draft him in the 4th. He's got good size, decent vision, a north-south runner, and has good hands. Sounds like the perfect back for the system.

I payed alot of attention to Jarron Gilbert, but I didn't see much that impressed me. Miller was way quicker than him and Miller played with a lot better leverage than Gilbert did. Still, he's a speciman and should be a hot pick by April.

I've heard nothing but good things about Miller at the practices. I heard one interview where he slyly compared himself to Dorsey from last year.

Hey, I'm glad that Texecutioner meet some of the gang!
Sorry GlassHalfFul you missed the good!
I missed you and the gang, too!
Yeah Gary and Gwallaia, we need to keep an eye on our boy Aldridge, Shanahan stashed him on the IR, and we still don't have a spot for him.
You didn't return JJ's glove to him, did you Gary?

I have always liked Lucky. But it's a business. We still have to evaluate all the pros and cons.

I hope the Texans scouts pay a little attention to the board! :fans:

Off the radar guys. small School propdays.

Anyone remember Charlie Tollar ?

Summers checked in at 5-foot-9 1/8, 241 pounds and ran a 4.63-second and a 4.64-second 40-yard dash. He put up a 34.5-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 4-inch broad jump, a 4.35-second short shuttle, a 7.23-long shuttle and 30 bench press reps.

Another player benefitting from positional coaches coming to watch him work out was Liberty’s Rashad Jennings, who also opened eyes at the combine. He worked out Tuesday in front of six teams, including the Panthers and their RB coach Jim Skipper. He worked out on an indoor track. He weighed 231 pounds, ran a 4.52 in the 40 and a 6.79 in the three-cone drill.

Criss Wells might be more famous....but someone is going to get a bragin here with Jennings.

I was watching Miller very closely during this game. He was playing really well and was around the ball a lot. I kept mentioning him to Glass Half Full at the game as well.

I'd love to get Roy Miller on the Texans like in the 4th round or something for sure. Maybe even in the 3rd possibly.

I highy doubt that the Texans will touch him though, since we have grabbed two Texas DT's in the last two drafts and neither one of them has really done anything. Miller is better than the previous two that we drafted, but I just don't see the Texans drafting 3 straight DT's out of Texas in 3 consecutive seasons. I'd be shocked if we did that, but I'd be happy about it for sure.

Hey, I was reviewing the East-West Shriner game, and I noticed the two home boys did really well.

Vollmer was going against Orion Martin (VT) and Sidburry and handle them just fine.
Martin is a high motor guy that I like in the late round, while Sidbury measurables make him a very intriguing prospect as well.
The announcer(s?) said that he had the best week in practice among the O-linemen.

Vollmer is 6'7'2 - 315 lbs.
He only played 3 year of football, coming from Germany.
(Hey, I don't mind having him on the Texans roster to drum up some fan support from over the pond.) Dunno whether he will get drafted or not.

Phillip Hunt beat his men constantly (Alex Boone - Ohio St. and Augustus Parrish - Kent St.) He can be a specialist that the Texans need for cheap ???
