Earl to be tested.

Earl to be tested on thursday against the Bucs. Some have been speculating on who would or would not make it, so I wonder how this plays into the formula? Dom's emphasis is on defense and it may affect the offensive players kept. Will this impact the wide receiver core we keep? Does Lord impact who we keep? I get the impression that both Lord and Earl are possibly keepers with Dom at the helm. What are your thoughts?

Brown, McCree, and Coleman are locks. I figure that Walker gets placed on IR at somepoint this season. I'd imagine Earl makes the 53 man roster, and Lord is interesting. Since Coleman can, and likely will play some corner this season you might be able to carry an extra safety. That could open up a spot for Lord. Dom has also played Simmons back at safety too, and it will be interesting to see if he makes the cut. Burns might be the odd man out.

Really depends on how Earl's knee responds to game action. He was a highly regarded safety and the Texans supposedly had a "second round grade" on him. He has good size and decent speed, but it will probably come down to his special teams contributions. What about Curry Burns? He had his name mentioned a few times in the Denver game, and he has been a contributor on special teams. I think that Kendrick Starling will have more of a say about the WR corps than Glenn Earl. I think JJ is definately on the bubble, and he needs to be replaced for roster purposes. The question is, is have we seen enough of any particular player to say, he is a better option than JJ?
I'm not convinced that I have.

Earl is a lock for the 53 man squad. Lord will be a PS guy imo. I don't think anything most of these guys do will impact the roster much. I'm sure the coaches pretty much know who is going to be kept at this point.

i agree in my eyes with walker being on IR earl is a lock on the roster...he just has to prove in this game that he can physically play ball...and something i've been seeing is that with brown's limited ability in pass coverage during the regular season we might be seeing a rotation in the safeties with either mccree or earl taking over for brown in obvious passing situations...just something to think about

Who makes the 5th (if we keep only 5) receiver spot, Moses or Starling?

Come on, Chance. There are 2 threads devoted to this subject already.

I think anyway you look at it both Earl and Lord will be with the team in some way. Either on the 53 player roster or practice squad. I'm hoping that Earl will be the one on the 53 man roster. He was a good safety at ND before he had the knee injury.

Earl will be on the roster because someone will claim him off waivers. He was a first day saftey that dropped to the 4th round because of injury. Some team will take a flyer on him. Lord will be the one of the PS...
