Eagles sign Connor Barwin

18.05: And the numbers are in for Connor Barwin to the Eagles. It’s a six-year deal for $36m for a guy who was our second lowest ranked 3-4 outside linebacker last year. That one isn’t going to score well on the old Deal Grader is it? On the plus side only $8m is guaranteed. Unless his play takes a giant leap, hard to see him seeing much of that money.

17.40: SIGNING! Per Tania Ganguli the deal is done and the Eagles are signing Connor Barwin. It’s something of a surprise and has you asking a lot of questions about the future of Trent Cole in Philadelphia. 16.50: It’s not official yet, but Jason La Canfora is reporting that the team set to overpay for Connor Barwin is … the Philadelphia Eagles. Barwin put up some good sack numbers back in 2011 and as a report was the coolest pass rusher in town. It didn’t matter that Wade Phillips ultra attacking defense drew blockers away from him and his pass rushing productivity score was only an 8.7 (17th best out of all 3-4 outside linebackers). In any case he’s coming off a year where that number dropped to 5.8. The fourth lowest of any 3-4 outside linebacker. That helped him to a -22.4 grade. Still, not as bad as Erik Walden.

His first order of business: Finding a great Hipster outlet mall for new clothes.

Followed by hooking up with some two-seater bicycle clubs in the arts district.

And, he's going to have a lot of new friends to have over for naked karaoke.

But come Sundays, no other Eagles defensive player will patty-cake his man as hard and as regular as Barwin will. Plus side is this: He'll never draw a 15-yarder for roughing the passer or hitting the QB in the helmet.

Philly fans are going to LOVE this guy. If they loved Jason Babin, they are going to divorce their spouses and join The Cult of Connor for sure.

Congrats, Eagles fans. You just overpaid for a Camp Champion. Don't stare too hard at the hair nor the muscles! That's his trance-inducing Jedi mind trick he uses on people. He sucks WAY bad on Sundays. Just warning you ahead of time.

I've been waiting for this day for two years.

Give me football-eating maniacs like Cushing and Watt. Ed Reed. Barwin's a poser like Carr was. Great physical stature, striking hair style, likes to pose for photos, high motor guy in practice, absent on Sundays.
 
Well I wish him luck in Philly. He was a good dude and player for us. Unfortunately he picked a bad season to suck. Had he been solid I think the texans would have tried harder to retain him. Oh well the show must go on.

8M. That is actually a pretty low number for a 6 year, 36M contract. Eagles also signed Cary Williams to a 3 year, 17M contract but he got 10.5M guaranteed.
 
Pretty much the end of "Bulls on Parade" I guess, but I hate this, anyway good luck in Philly Connor.
 
Never been a fan...never saw the explosiveness necessary to be an elite edge rusher. He'll be done in Philly after 1 year...book it.

Actually I think it's a remake of a classic stage light, you'll find the old ones rebuild into 'regular' lamps, but his looks like a remake.

Was looking at an eagles board and those guys are pumped about barwin. Talking about how he's going to be batting balls and giving qb's all kinds of problems...

Man, that's a lot of money for Barwin. Imagine if he had posted stats similar to 2011 last season, due would have gotten PAID.

Trust me bhsman if that were my friend or family member I would be about 10 times harder on him.

I'm glad he got paid but I was surprised about the amount of guaranteed money he got, 8M. That is pretty low considering the contract 6 years 36M. Sean Smith got more guaranteed money, 11M, and his contract is half the length and total amount.

Very low GM, which is good for Philly but not so good for Connor. If the Texans weren't willing to pony up a contract which called for only 8 Mil guaranteed, they had a much lower opinion of his football skills than I thought, and I gotta wonder what all of that talk allegedly coming from Wade Phillips was about how he valued Barwin so highly ?
 
See all you Barwin fans there is hard proof that Connor Barwin was Jason Babin 2.0. Philly cuts Babin last year who do they replace him with... "Mr Bulls disappear in big games and cant be found in a parades" Connor Barwin.
 
Barwin and Babin may both be white guys from Michigan, but after that it's apples and oranges IMO.
 
Since the Eagles are switching to a 3-4 defense, I guess this makes sense. In any case, I wish him the best of luck and hope he has a productive career in Philly. He was an upstanding guy and played hard on every down (at least when I was watching).

Wade Phillips actually liked Barwin a lot.

He was a better player when he leveraged speed rather than strength. He needs to embrace that fact if we wants to make more than $8 million from Philly.

It's easier to say goodbye knowing now that he's a Bill Maher fan. The campaign for the Rage song was bad enough. Maybe someone can get his new Philly address and send him a Jonah Goldberg book as a going-away gift.

Regardless, I liked the guy. Congrats to him for getting paid.
