1 Dez Bryant* WR 6'2" 210 Oklahoma State
2 Jahvid Best* RB 5'10" 195 California
3 John Jerry OG 6'5" 348 Mississippi
4 Walter McFadden CB 6'0" 182 Auburn
5 Nate Collins DT 6'2" 290 Virginia
5 Kyle McCarthy S 6'1" 205 Notre Dame
6 Tim Hiller QB 6'5" 225 Western Michigan
7 Jammie Kirlew DE 6'3" 265 Indiana
My cherry pick.
1 Dez Bryant* WR 6'2" 210 Oklahoma State
Talent is too much to pass up at #20. Instantly becomes #2 WR and eliminates teams from being able to cheat defense towards AJ.
2 Kyle Wilson CB 5'10" 190 Boise State
Another talent pick. Value here is just to much to pass up. A resigned Robinson, Quin, Reeves and Wilson give us a solid young group of CB’s.
3 Greg Hardy DE 6'5" 265 Mississippi
Once again a talent pick. The only reason he is in this position is because of his injury history. This late in the 3rd round I just couldn’t pass him up. Mario and Smith in the middle and Hardy and Barwin at the ends could be scary for teams in obvious passing situations.
4 Jacoby Ford WR 5'9" 175 Clemson
I know a second WR? I must be crazy. Hear me out, Ford along with Bryant makes Walter and Davis expendable. Bryan is an upgrade over Walter and Ford is a cheaper upgrade over Davis therefore the WR position is better overall. Ford immediately becomes the kick returner and his speed would cause serious mismatches all over the field as a 3rd or 4th WR. I see Ford as a combination of Davis and Anderson only better.
5 LeGarrette Blount RB 6'2" 240 Oregon
A back with his size and ability is a bargain at this point.
5 Dennis Pitta TE 6'5" 230 BYU
It’s a passing league now so the more weapons you have the better. Nice insurance in case OD doesn’t come back the same or leaves via FA next year. TE is an important part of this offense don’t undervalue it. Casey, Pitta, OD and Dreesen would be the best group of TE’s we have ever had. I know it makes the Hill pick last year a waste but Pitta fits the new game plan, Hill don’t. When we drafted Hill, Kubiak was still gearing up for a run first team. Since then we have become on of the best passing teams in the NFL.
6 Zane Beadles OG 6'4" 312 Utah
Beadles a long with a quality FA guard pickup and a healthy Briesel, Caldwell, White and Studdard should get the line back up to par in the running game.
7 Boo Robinson DT 6'2" 326 Wake Forest
A big busy body to put in the rotation along with a Quality FA, Okam, Robinson, Cody and Okoye.
Highlights of this draft are, the WR position got younger, better and cheaper Giving us more money to spend on positions of weakness in FA. The TE position is now 4 deep in players that are interchangeable and all fit the offenses strengths. Added a solid Secondary player in Wilson who at worst takes over the Nickel back duties. New big boy who works hard to add to the DT rotation. Another athletic OL that fit’s the system for better depth at worst. A big back that is hard to bring down. And got a player that really can get after the QB which should come in handy when teams are trying to play catch up to our badass passing attack that is loaded with all these new dangerous weapons.
Lowlights are we didn’t get a Safety which really sucks but with the addition of Wilson and the resigning of Robinson, maybe moving Quin to Safety should be a consideration. Or Barber, Nolan, Wilson and Ferguson can fight it out again. There usually is a decent vet or 2 to bring in via FA to hold down the fort for a year or two.
If Nolan can stay healthy he could surprise a lot of people.
Barber finished the year playing pretty strong alongside Pollard.
