Draft prospects private workouts w/ Texans

They absolutely robbed Washington in that deal! Getting a young, elite CB plus a second round pick for a RB is a deal any good GM would make 10 out of 10 times.

In addition to every other argument, realize a CBs career is usually much, much longer than a RBs.

I totally don't get the love for Iupati. He is stiff and VERY raw. If we walk out of the first round wiith him, I'll be a very sad man.

Extra point: Utah free safety Robert Johnson will visit the Texans Monday and Tuesday according to a report by Aaron Wilson. NFLDraftScout.com has a sixth round grade on Johnson (6-2, 203) but according to Rob Rang, Johnson is one of the fastest rising names in the draft because of his strong Pro Day performance. Johnson was not invited to the scouting combine. Texans second year cornerback Brice McCain was a college teammate of Johnson.

According to Scout.com, The Texans will bring Edwards into Reliant as one of their 30 official visits:

The ascension that former West Virginia quarterback Pat White enjoyed during last year’s NFL Draft process landed him in the second round. And just like White, Appalachian State quarterback Armanti Edwards brings a similar skill set, and maybe even more versatility, to the field. But while White was selected in the second frame, Edwards brings even more value to an NFL team as he’s projected to be a fourth round draft pick.



Even though Edwards isn’t projected to be a high-round selection, he’s had a hectic schedule this off-season. He’s had private workouts with the Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots. He’s already visited the Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins. And while an official visit has not been reported, Scout.com also lists the Texans among teams showing interest in New Mexico center Erik Cook.

Finally, Boise State CB Kyle Wilson is on a multi-city pre-draft tour. However, Scout.com does not list the Texans among the teams Wilson has or will visit prior to the draft.

i was justgoing to post how the hell is he only rate as a 5th rounder with coverage instincts, productions & decent athleticism then they showed a couple not so good angles in the 'speed' section. still i like him and would be happy with him in the 3rd/4th which is where he'll go imo.

and fwiw, two of our secondary selections last yr (quin and troy nolan had excellent scouting videos similiar to that. heres hoping he's the 3rd
 
yup. I remember watching Quin's and being really floored with his aggressive style. Didn't get a sense of how good he was in man to man and his nose for nocking the ball away. The main thing I remember thinking (and I'd love to know how to dig up that old post) was that he seems to just fly to the ball like a maniac and just nail guys.

I'm getting into this reel thing. Hardesty is the one that I'm just crazy about.

He appears deceptively slow. Long strides maybe? He's got some sharp moves then he takes off like a bat in hell. I like him ok. I hope we snag two RBs in this draft as well as sign some UDFAs. We need some heavy competition going on that front.

Our run game was dreadful last season as we all know... Interior line or not... absolutely dreadful.
 
What I've seen of Hardesty "highlights" have left me uninspired. He doesn't seem to break a lot of tackles and he doesn't seem to be all that fast.

I had Johnson on my radar when I scouted Sean Smith last year (when I also noticed McCain.)

I can't believe he wasn't invited to the combine.

I would be happy with him in the 3rd/4th as well.
A good possibility of becoming a starter in the NFL.

IMO, this year Secondary class is much better than last; which some of us had mentioned even since last year.

If he falls. Alot of folks have San Fransisco taking him at the seventeen now. Makes sense for them as it would for us. Yeah I'd be happy. The wife would be walking funny for a couple of days.

Beating Kareem Jackson on that route was pretty impressive considering it was against a 1st round corner.

I think it is beyond arguing that he is a run first QB. But you are right, he does throw the ball well, and has off the charts leadership ability.

I see him as a QB. I am not a fan of turning successful college QBs into other positions. It just does not work well most of the time.

Yes, he is most likely going to be taken as a WR. But I personally believe that his most successful position in the pros will be as a gimmick QB.

Never seen the guy play before, but wow!
I just watch him play one half of football and came away TOTALLY IMPRESSED.
This guy is a player.
I don't care. Put him at QB, RB or WR, wherever.
But he can really play QB.
OK, so maybe I'm jumping the gun here.
I'd really like to take a longer look at the guy, probably that's what the best course is.

If we can get him in the 5th or 6th he would be well worth the pick for his versatility and protential.

I feel he'll go early than that to one of those teams who like to run the Wildcat, he will be an amazing Wildcat QB.

Best RB in this draft

Character issues will make him a 6th rd pick.

It would be great to see an all Vol RB corps. Foster,draft Hardesty in the 3rd and Coker in the 6th. Putting Slaton wthe those guys and you have a deep talented RB corps.

I've been calling for Smithiak to take a chance on Coker. I appears they might be willing to take that chance.
 
After reading a little about Coker I can see why the Texans would show intrest in him even though he is troubled...

"My counselor did not think I had a marijuana problem," Coker said. "She said it was depression. This was around the time the economy was going bad and both of my parents were laid off from General Motors. I was real stressed. I did not cope the correct way."

As to why he kept smoking, knowing he would get in trouble again, Coker said: "I had reached a point where I was sabotaging myself. I drifted into my own world. I was not hanging out with teammates and the people I should as a University of Tennessee football player. I felt stresses that I didn't think anyone would understand."

Coker worked his way back onto the field. There was another drug test before the South Carolina game, but the results wouldn't come back for a week.

Coker had two big plays, helping Tennessee to an overtime victory. In the locker room, Fulmer handed him the game ball.

"I knew it was my last game there," he said. "No one else knew. I knew I had failed the drug test."

Now he struggles to explain why he was so drawn to the drug that proved to be his undoing.

"The coaches knew I had a problem, and they did everything within their power to help, but I wasn't mature enough that I could accept help," Coker said. "When someone has an addiction no one can help them if they don't want to be helped. I was at that point."

Fulmer had a special fondness for Coker. Not only was he a superb athlete, he was a good student and one of the more articulate, insightful and thoughtful players on the team.

Heading into the 2009 season, Rose selected Coker to be a team captain.

"That was a very emotional time," Coker said. "Even here at Antioch, I wasn't a team captain. My whole life people told me I had leadership qualities and that I just needed to tap into it. Being named a captain, that's when things changed. I was already heading in the right direction, but it catapulted me even further."

This season Coker was the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's leading rusher, totaling 1,027 yards and six touchdowns for the Pirates, who finished with a 5-6 record.

He is hoping NFL teams will recognize the changes in his personal life.

"It's hard to just say something that will make everybody believe you," he said. "The only thing I can do is keep doing the right things."

In 2008, Chris Johnson set an NFL Combine record by running the 40-yard dash in 4.24 seconds. At the East Coast Bowl in Petersburg, Va., last month, Coker ran the 40 in 4.28.

I remember him from Tennessee. He was the best RB on a team that included Foster and Hardesty.

He runs hard between the tackles and is a big play waiting to happen.

Coker has Chris Johnson/Spiller speed and runs harder between the tackles than Spiller.

Sorry, I have to disagree with you here. He has talent, but is nowhere near the top RB in the draft. I dont have him in the top 10 even.

If he was so good, why didn't he own at the FCS level? I watched some Hampton games, he did not impress me that much.

I wondered the same thing looking at the stats. He hasn't scored many TDs for a breakaway back playing at a lower level.

You're not alone in that opinion. I recognize that. I see a big guy with great vision and an extra gear who understands the system perfectly.

Coker has the most potential of all of the late rd RB's. Would you agree?

Hmm, hard to quantify potential. But he is a player, that is for sure. I would not put his speed at CJ/Spiller range, but he is above average. Maybe MJD speed? He is a willing up the gut runner, but I do not think he will be successful at it in the pros. This limits him to a 3rd back type role. But the team that uses him efficiently will be getting a definite boost to their offense. I give him a solid 7th round grade, but could see him going in the late 6th.

A FCS back to look at is Northern Arizona's Alex Henderson. I just reviewed my notes on him (I am making a final update to my small school board), and had to review some tape to see if my notes were accurate. They were, this kid should stick in the pros.
