Draft/Player Development should now be top Priorities

What's the benefit to finishing say 5-11 instead of 3-13 ? None. But there's
a huge potential cost, and that's not having a top 5 pick (or perhaps even
#1 overall), in what is expected to be a very strong draft. It would also be
a golden opportunity to play younger guys like Wand & Armstrong instead of old timers like Riley & Bradford who probably won't even be with the team after this year. And most of all, Ragone could get some starts instead of Carr.
Will Carr's confidence be adversly affected, probably not if they pcik up that
option at year end. But they may not want to exercise that option after giving Ragone a chance ? There's only one way to know. Will Capers be upset because McNair directs him to make these moves ? So what, let him quit because if McNair is entertaining any thoughts of retaining Capers after a year which can only be veiwed as a failure by the HC, he will be faced with the prospects of TV blackouts and tens of thousands of empty seats next years and a setback to the teams development for years to come.

I'm all for seeing some player development with serious playing time; one quarter a game won't cut it. This would also include quality practice time. Here are the players I can think of, there really aren't all that many.

Wand
Armstrong
Morency
Ragone
Murphy (depending on injury status)
Sanders
Weary

Except for Armstrong and Sanders, I'm not holding my breath that we will see any of these players barring injury to the starters.

I would like to Morency get some reps. Davis got his knee problem after carrying the ball 22 times in the first half against the Colts a few weeks ago, there is no need to run him that much. Bring Morency in once every 3-4 plays to let Davis rest up a bit. They are the same type of runners and are capable of doing the same things. Morency dances around a little too much and isn't quite as quick as Davis but he has better straight line speed. Wells has been used sparingly to rest Davis but he is a different style runner and they try to run him off tackle when he doesn't really have the speed to effectively do that.

The coaches only talk about sharing the reps but in reality they just don't do it when Dom is playing. Wells only had one carry Sunday night.

Exactly right...and this group won't pay anything but lip service to it for the rest of the way because they are still in denial and think that if they win one-three games through the weak part of our schedule they can at least salvage some of their reputations.

This is a primary reason why McNair is making a huge mistake by not letting Marciano finish the season so that we can get someone to lead with only one agenda...that being what is in the best interest of the team long term.

As badly as we're playing, why assume that the current starters have a better chance of winning than players who are fighting to show the Texans or their next team what they can do?

Well said...but this group of coaches has proven that the "starters" they are riding have to be dead and decaying in public before they bring in there backups (Bradford, Coleman etc...) There is a time to play your young guys to test their talent and "want to" when it matters so that you can build for the future and we are there IMO.

True, but Davis didn't run the ball much either. It wasn't like in some previous games where we ran Davis 5-6 plays in a row.

McKinney said that the team had more running plays called but Dave kept checking out of them to throw those hitch passes. Wells wasn't in enough to give the coaches lip service about sharing touches any credibility at all.

what gets to me is that derrick armstrong hardly gets PT. i mean, i can say without a doubt he has some of the best hands on the team and can flat out make rediculously hard plays look easy. he ought to be at least the number 2 or 3 reciever. and where the heck is mathis in the WR mix. this dude is also 2 or 3 reciever quality....i mean so what if he is raw and young...so what? ya gotta break him in sometime, and theres no excuse for leaving his speed out of the fold. by next year, we will have 4 fast recievers that can outrun alot of people, so with a solid o-line, i expect deep balls. hopefully if capers is fired, we can get a head coach like a mike martz who is very aggressive in the passing game....u just gotta use these guys' speed.

The coaches said before/after last game that they hadn't played Mathis at WR all week so he could rest up his hamstring and make sure he could at least do KR. They plan to start factoring him in more on offense too but have to make sure he's healthy enough to do both that and KR.

But what is the reason for not playing Armstrong more? We let go talented young receivers to retain Bradford a guy they admitted was just learning to run routes in TC after being in the NFL how long? Its how hard you look like you are working that gets the eye of this coaching staff? Is talent a factor? No, that is unimportant. Is potential important? No, why would potential be a factor? You see by the book its experience that means everything and being a yes sir type of guy to these coaches. It also helps to congratulate them on how effective you think there plans and style play are. In other words brown nose the heck out of them and you will be fine and dandy. I'm sorry, but its time to say good night, change the locks, and get on with business.

...exactly right--Capers went out of his way to say Wells had earned a bigger share of the load...typical Capers! I remember during the preseason when our first 3 QBs were questionable for playing time and Capers made the statement that the one QB he could say for sure would get playing time was Preston Parsons!!!! NOTTTTTTTTTT...not even a snap. A lot of fans bought into Capers rhetoric for a long time and-guess what--he still spits out the same old BS. Does he really believe we are still buying it?

And, he coaches the team the same way--for him, his philosophy is not the problem, it's the failure of the players to correctly execute that philosophy...talk about a no win situation, Capers will never 'see the forest because of all the trees'....:brickwall
