It gets old hearing people knock on Davis calling him average at best and saying how 1000 yrds isn't nothing to be excited about. He is averaging 88.72 yards per game played which means he should be at 1242 yards, putting him in the top five AFC running backs and top ten throughout the entire NFL org..
That's impressive to me. Sure he has been out a few games each year, but this isn't always his choice. Everyone KNOWS the coaches don't always make the wisest decisions..:brickwall

...and then look at his receiving yards.. 337 to date which means if he played all 14 games he would have 429 yards..

So at the end of this season he will be:
1150 rushing
400 receiving

and should have been, giving the opportunity:

1437 rushing
490 receiving

This is above average...:yahoo: next year when we have a new coaching structure we will hopefully see Double D in the 1500+ rushing and 2200+total offensive yards.
Go Davis, D-Rob, Carr, Dre, Mathis, and the entire 2006 Houston Texans Playoff Contenders..

DD was a value when we got him in the draft and he was a value when we resigned him. Moreover, he is our only player in franchise history to take home any post season hardware, ROY. Hate him if you like, but then be equitable and hate the other 52 as well.

Rushing Yards arent as important of a factor as they used to be. Plain and simple, Domanick might be above average. Yeah, but dont you want great? Lets face it, DD is boring to watch. We need Bush!!!!:redtowel:

I like DD. He's not as durable as we need in the long run, but I think he'd make a good half of a platoon system. That way he's not worn out by the end of the season with injuries. He's got some good skills, but by no means is he a playmaker or someone that defenses gameplan around. He'd be great to compliment a solid passing game.

The problem we might face is that by the time this team gets good - meaning winning season and maybe a playoff spot - DD might be too worn out to be effective. We've got to keep an eye on the future with that in mind.

13 carries a game for Bush. IN one half against Indy DD had 22. Do you really think he could stand that kind of usage? Maybe if our coacing staff had .5 of an IQ they would use Wells and Morency to keep DD healthy, not just when he is hurt.

OR...Since DD is injury prone and lacks the break away speed, maybe he could bulk up and be like Jerome Bettis. After all, Bettis also had injuries early in his careers and manage to minimize them (except latter seasons). He just needs to learn how to fall and not to take those big hits. By bulking up he could be a better pass blocker and be a bigger Thunder…all we need is to find a Lightning Running back to compliment him for the long run. :twocents:

I never brought up Bush... :um: (I don't dislike him, but I'm not on that bandwagon)

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about (platooning). I'm not sure how much bulking up would affect DD's play, but it could help his durability. He does tend to take some big hits, and with his size, he needs to learn how to fall or get out of bounds better. Good point about pass blocking. We need all of that from our position players than we can get.

Bull. DD is a proven commodity. Bush hasn't gained one yard in the NFL yet and has just as much of a chance to be another Curtis Enis or Lawrence Phillips as he does Barry Sanders. With an improved OL, DD could be great.
 
People have said that, because we now play 16 games instead of 14, that DD should get 1300 or more yards. Actually, he would only need 1143 to more than equal 1000 yds. back then. Someone else said that in another thread and it adds up. Plus, he gets all those receiving yards. He is an above average back.

It's true though that his biggest weakness is blocking and that does not show up in the stats.

I gambled on the Kevin Jones card this year as well - tried to prove my 'fantasy genius'.....didn't work out real well for me. :(
 
Being from Louisiana guess I'm a little patrial to Double D. But really he has gone over and beyond what was expected out of a 4th round draft pick, wouldn't you say???? He is a decent back. Just wonder what he could do behind a good OLine?
