Dont Trade the 8th Pick

at least until on the clock & we know who/what we have to choose from. all these crazy rumors generated by who knows who are taking all the fun out of the draft process. for instance if the Texans where to trade the 8th pick to Denver for the 21st (plus players already mentioned) who would the Texans target? Reggie Nelson or the best cornerback? I guess that we all could live with that but instead of that scenero what about staying put til on the clock & hope one of the elite talents fall to our pick? then the options, calls would come streaming for a trade with more attractive terms.

for instance this is one I've been thinking about, say Adrian Peterson is still on the board @ #8 (which the Texans still hold) what if Buffalo calls & wants him badly & offers their 12th pick plus Willis McGahee would that not be more tempting than the Denver scenero? reports out of Buffalo suggest that Willis McGahee has angered Bills management with his behavior including disparaging comments about the city of Buffalo and he isn't running as hard as the Bills would like. now here is a player the Texans would have selected 3rd overall (2003) if he had not torn his acl, would address the need of a franchise RB & only drop the Texans four picks where they still might still get another stud like Levi Brown or LaRon Landry.

same thing could be said if another player drops to the Texans pick like Brady Quinn, Amobi Okoye etc. etc. etc. keep our options open dont rush into anything foolish :ok:
 
The only way I would trade the pick is if we are on the clock, quinn is available, and peterson is gone. We get optimal value, and we didn't miss out on a playmaker.
 
I definitely wait until I see how the draft is playing itself out b/c weird weird things happen but I'd have some offers in place prior too in case someone that we don't want falls to us which most likely would be quinn.

I personally don't think any of the players in mocks that have fallen to us are worth the #8 pick so I'm very much in favor of trading out of the pick one way or the other.
 
Wait...it says "Dont Trade the 8th Pick" in the title right? But you are making a case for trading it in the post. Whhaaaat? I don't think anybody is talking about trading it before the draft. I dont think anyone would want to trade for it before the draft...how is that team supposed to know who will be on the board?
 
If we do trade the 8th pick, say for a free agent...the draft party will not be fun anymore.
 
Here is what I think could happen & I'd be pleased with. Peterson and Quinn available at #8. Miami offers a 5th to trade up one spot to guarantee they get Quinn. We accept and then draft AP @ 9. Miami would not know for certain that we do not have a trade for Carr & want Quinn for us. I want AP. What team in our shoes would turn down a possible franchise type back?
 
I don't know why but lately I've been having this feeling that AP will be there at number 8. I don't know why either. Too many teams are ahead of us to have a shot, yet I still am optimistic. If not him then OL. I don't think we need to use any big top picks for the defense. Pick up a LB in the later rounds and FA will get us the rest as well.

I agree that the pick shouldn't be traded until we know who is going to be available to us at that position, so that we get far trade value in return. However, if we were offered a current player that would be better than any player that might be available at that pick, then you would have to consider that scenario.

Well I'm not as certain as you at the instant trun around with all day. What I do know that under your scenario, we're going to look very fool hearty indeed come draft day. I don't know if All day falls. But the fins or someone else might scacrifice the family farm to move up and get Quinn. I would hope we'd be in a position to at least pick up the phone come draft day.

Holy schnikes, beerlover. I would soil myself from happiness (ewww, sorry for that mental pic) were that to present itself. I just don't think AD will be there past #3 -- I could warm up to the idea of trading with Carolina, assuming Quinn would be available at 8 and CAR would come a-callin.

I think if Quinn is there at #8, the calls would come in. Miami would have to know that Carolina would express interest, and I wonder how badly Miami wants to pin their hopes on C-pep.
 
We CANNOT trade the pick before the draft, unless we get one hello of a deal...like a first this year a first next year...and a player and maybe another pick.

we have to wait untill the draft because there is no telling what's going to happen. There are questions who Oakland, Detroit, and Cleveland are going to pick....who knows what happens.

we have to wait...if we wait till our pick and can't get the trade we could have before...so be it...we stay there and select an playmaker that will change our team. not a bad problem to be in. if we get the same offer or a better one then we consider it.

trading the pick before the draft would be the stupidest decision our FO could make (barring some incredible trade offer that is a can't pass in a lifetime...that would make nfl draft trade history and be talked about for the rest of the century.).
