Don Banks Woulda, Shoulda

Don Banks on CNN.com has a review of the 2005 draft and what teams should have done. FOr the Texans he says they should have taken Alex Barron, OT. I have to agree. He's starting for the Rams right now and I think that an OL would be making a bigger impact than what Johnson is doing for us right now. On top of that I think that it would definitely make things easier for us this year on draft day. Would still need an LT but I think people would be more willing to wait till the second round than they are right now.

All these drafts and no OL? Just a little frustrating at this point. I'm sure Carr is a little sick of it too.

Barron is starting but the reviews on his performance that have seen are mixed. He is playing RT with the Rams because they have Orlando Pace. For the majority of team including the Texans he would have been a LT.

I'd have to agree with him also.

The immediate need was offensive line, which was failed to be addressed until the 5th round. Travis Johnson has yet to make a mark (granted, he's a backup for now), but you can find a solid D-Lineman/end in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. Heck, look at Robaire Smith: drafted in the 6th round (197th overall).

Interesting note how he has Jerome Mathis going to the Jaguars in the 1st round. And I'm sorry, but Matt Jones is definitley not worth a 4th overall pick.

In hindsight, which is what you usually do in basing someone's performance on, we should have taken DJ at our original slot and in the second round select Khalif Barnes. Then in the 3rd we had 2 selections and we should have ended up with WR Chris Henry and G Adam Snyder or Sione Pouha. The 4th round I wouldn't have selected Mathis if we already selected Henry, but if we didn't select Henry then Mathis was on my radar. There was still a lot of talent on the board at this point so the choices were endless.

Remember, we gave the 2nd round pick to Oakland for P-Burnt.

Banks dogs us for not taking Barron then says an alternate option for us should have been Chris Canty, defensive end. So he dogs us for picking TJ, a backup right now on the defensive line, but Canty would have been the same unless he beat out Robaire or Walker for the DE position...Also from what I have seen of Barron this season I have not been impressed, I saw one game where he was penalized 5 or 6 times, 3 times on one drive...

Well since we are talking about hindsight we should have given the Rams our two first rounds. Lets look to see what we would have lost, Travis Johnson-second stringer, and if we win, and we will win this sunday then we take
d-brick, an unproven left tackle.

I know Bush is unproven but with pace you knew what you are getting.

in hindsight (not really since most thought it wasnt smart at the time anyways), the buchannon trade shouldnt have happened. the ideal draft then goes...

1. Derrick Johnson - LB
2. Khalif Barnes - OT
3a. Evan Mathis - OG
3b. Ellis Hobbs - CB
4. Jerome Mathis - WR
5. Drew Hodgdon - C
6. CJ Mosley - DT
7. Madison Hedgecock - FB

I think the draft last year was part of the first stages of Operation Get Reggie.

The evil genius Charley Casserly knew that adding a player like Alex Barron or Derrick Johnson would improve the team so he did the unthinkable and picked Travis Johnson, knowing that he would have little to no effect on the improvement of the team this year.

Scooter you are right on target with my thought. Buchanon was a corner who was not physical and we knew that. Khalif Barnes has played better than Alex Barron all year. The only thing is I would rather have a DE/LB in the 7th over Hedgecock because Moran Norris is very solid.
