Dolphins @ Texans AAR

I like the fact that we won the turnover battle again…. But this time we won!

The running game! 9 attempts through 2 1/2 quarters. Yuck!

CBs are legit!
I dont have an issue with not running the ball much. Running the ball yesterday would've been like beating their heads against a brick wall. I'm just glad that the realigned OL protected Stroud well. Hopefully he can regain the confidence he had last yr.

Good post. We're on the same page. Now, If I'm being completely objective unless something magically happens and Slowik pulls a rabbit's foot out of his pocket, I don't think the offense will be able to do enough in the playoffs against a good defense to make a deep run.

But is it possible? With the way the D is playing right now...yes it is. Likely? No. IMHO.
All that needs to happen even with the poor OL play is Stroud needs to hit the play where the receiver was open down the sideline for a TD, or the play right before the half when he threw the ball to metchie's wrong shoulder. If he throws it to Metchie's inside shoulder that's a TD. Make either one of these plays and we're talking about how much improved the offense looks with it's newly constructed OL. Unfortunately this has been an issue for most of the season.

I guess I should have said, the running plays that were attempted were like you said…. Heads into brick walls! This run game has zero imagination and even less athleticism on the OLine to even get creative.

Time of possession needs to be more and that’s an effective running game.

CJ still got sacked 4 times. And lost a fumble.

After review, what are the opinions on the revamped OL? They still gave up four sacks, but I heard a stat that Stroud had the 3rd longest time to pass (3.2 seconds) in yesterday's games.

Which begs the question… if he had that long to throw why did he only throw for 130 or something like that?
Guys not getting open? CJ not letting it rip? Slowick sucks at scheming guys open?

Atleast 2 of those he caused.

He needs to take better care of the ball.

Now that Howard has been moved to LG, I wouldn't count on the run game improving.

He nailed Metchie on a long TD, dropped, but once up 14, typical defensive head coach somewhat turtled feeling he had Miami controlled. There was another killer drive stalling drop right in the receivers hands. The one I did not get was on drive when CJ went for a low % shot to Mixon on the sideline on third and 2, when Schultz was dead in front of him wide open for the first. I suspect the all 22 will show plenty of open guys, Schultz for sure. The kid had a 106 rating and made several good plays. I think this OL setup is meant to get our passing game going and CJ trusting the OL again before the playoffs. They will likely by ass trying to run the ball though which scares me for bad weather games

Cal stays cool as a cucumber.

The fumble was not on him. I hate they put that stat on him when the center hiked the ball way before CJ called for it.

CJ caused one sack. Dude is literally thinking too much now and he doesn’t have that much confidence in that oline. The Dolphins ran a simple stunt, Howard and Patterson botched that up and got CJ killed. So when the pocket is clean in his head it’s still murky AF.

Guys were getting open, CJ is simply missing them because he going to his first read versus going through his progressions. On one of the sacks, CJ was starring right an open Dalton Schlutz. For some reason he decided to bail out to the right. On the second offensive series, Woods got behind the defense, no defender in sight. CJ didn’t even look that way, he went to his first read.

The process in his head needs to slow down.

I hope Bullock breaks Dunta Robinson's rookie int record this season, he's been a absolute ballhawk this season. That said Robinson had 6 INTs his rookie year, but also had 73 solo tackles, 3 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles (in 16 games).. it was the greatest year of his career. He was Bob Sanders before Bob Sanders that rookie year. After that I think his head starting inflating.

Bullock was considered a raw athlete prospect coming in so I see this season as a baseline for him. He has so much more natural talent than Robinson ever did.. So where Robinson's ceiling was his rookie season, I see that as Bullock's rookie season as his floor and he'll only improve from here.

I shudder to think about what Chris Jones will do to that OL Saturday
This is where im at. Spags and the Chiefs defense has never really gotten its due in this Chiefs run and with Mahomes hobbled & possibly not playing, they will likely try to use this game as the statement game for how good they've been. I fully Expect Chris Jones to be dominant in this game to the point someone might get benched.

Yep, I take comfort in knowing the Texans DL will be doing the same things to Wentz.
Tim Settle has been a revelation. As far as I can tell, he was a rotation guy in Washington and Buffalo, not much of a starter. He's gotten more starts (8) in Houston than his whole 7-year career. He has a career high in tackles (26) and has tied his high for sacks in a season (5) with three games left. It's a good story when a "bench guy" steps up and excels.... I noticed the announcers gave him some love on the broadcast...

I am glad that Tim settle signed two year contract through 2025.

Actually watching this again I see that Patterson whiffed on his block and the DT plowed into the side of Howard while was engaged and knocked him on his ass. Total protection fail by the interior. Mason blocked no one
This is the entire problem with the Oline… the interior is garbage. They even mentioned that on NFL Live today. They showed three plays against the dolphins where all 3 interior lineman were standing around blocking air! It was quite comical and embarrassing at the same time.
They even mentioned how the Chiefs were gonna exploit that and make a long day for CJ

They can't.

But it goes both ways. If our defense can stop the big plays... cover well allowing our front four to pressure the QB into making poor decisions, then it's their poor offense against ours, even in the playoffs.

I think our poor offense has more potential than the other team’s poor offense.

Is this what you were saying last year?

Did Slowik forget how to coach?

The run game sucked even worse last year. It’s been feast or famine this year, and when it’s feast it’s Mixon playing hero ball and self-creating and hitting a big gainer or two, which skews the stats. It’s very rarely because this line is creating real cutback lanes, or just mauling guys and rolling off consistent 5 or 6 yard runs.

Is it scheme, play-calling on a snap to snap basis, poor coaching, bad o-lineman that Simply can’t get it done, or a smorgasbord of all of the above. The latter is my call. It’s all,of the above…but ultimately the OC would be the responsible party.

It's a little bit of all of the above.

My biggest thoughts are this OL are just dumb. They struggle to pickup simple stunts.

Dumb, overpaid, no SWARM mentality like the DL where everybody plays at or above their contract/draft status.
Baller posted a Tweet with DeMeco mic'd up. Several times he was yelling on offense, "Finish your block, finish your block."

Maybe he was yelling at a WR, that's possible. But it stood out in my mind.

Schultz has been a disappointment, too many drops and his blocking has been disappointing at best. Your post is the reason I put Warren as my pick for the Texans 1st rd pick.
You think he’ll actually be there in the 20s-30s? Well more than likely be picking around 25, I don’t see him still being there.
