Do the Texans winning/losing affect .....

rockabilly

Waterboy
I was wondering if for anyone else out there, the Texans losing can make your week miserable and non-productive.

I know that when the Texans lose, I genrally feel more lazy in the week. Very down. I will slack in my excersizing, eat horribly, slack in my work.

But when they win, I find myself more energized and productive.

I just noticed this trend in myself. McNair please fix this team. It's affecting my health and work!!!!!!!

I know it's hard as hell to watch anything on Sportscenter, and it makes getting to next Sunday take even longer, of course only to lose again. Not to mention all the trash we hear about them being the worst team in the league. Fortunately most of my friends teams suck too so they can't really talk a lot of trash.

yeah thats another thing that makes it so hard. All my friends conitinually give me the Texans Suck routine...I mean I know it's true, but I don't need to be reminded.

I can only blame the coach for how bad they look. He's had MORE than enough time to make them a formidable team (4 drafts) and he doesn't even know how to change them up on the field when their plays aren't working. It's a TOTAL lack of control. sorry, but I COULD do a better job.

As soon as my wife gets home from work on Sundays she always asks me what kind of mood I'm in. So far this year i've been in a terrible mood. :brickwall

Well you are going to gain about 50 lbs and lose your job by the time this season ends. :sumo:

After reviewing the play, the ruling on the field
stands!

It does upset me. When I heard those words, I slammed both hands down on the coffee table, got up and went and showered for work. I wouldn't watch the rest of the game, just made me sick. It doesn't bother me the whole week, but it does right at first.

Yes, my wife can tell you if they won or loss just by looking at me. After a loss, i become distracted at work, like now, my patience is very thin with the kids, etc. A win puts me in a good mood, more productive at work, my family loves me again, etc.

When the Texans lose I literally die on the inside. I know it's stupid but during football season my entire world tends to revolve around the teams success or lack thereof. This has not been a good year. I've stopped bothering to record their games and in fact I didn't even start watching last weeks game until the half. Even then I only watched it off and on.

Sure someone is going to haul out the old "we don't need fans like you" line and say I've fallen off the bandwagon but I can't see how watching three years of solid losing and hanging on every positive play this team made during that stretch makes me a bandwagon type fan. For the most part I saw effort during those lousy years. The lack of same his made me disinterested so far in 2005. It's been a big letdown and my general mood and attitude has reflected that.

I find myself paying more attention to the Astros than I normally would. They're a team that's got issues but simply won't quit. That attracts me. Watching the Texans make moves to improve for the last three years and then come out playing worse than ever repels me. It's as simple as that. It's why I loved the Bum Phillips era Oilers but never could really fall in love with the infinitely more talented Warren Moon era Oilers. One team played way over their heads and the other seemed to coast on talent. The Texans in weeks one and two looked like that, except they had no talent so they didn't coast far.

I am a Texan, therefore I am. It pains me to no end to see my team perform the way they do. As a former Cowboys fan I had to miserbaly go through some painful years in the mid to late eighties, but I was not at an age where I was invested with the team. Now that I bought into the PSLs in 2002 I tend to hear things from my wife such as -

Why are you doing this to yourself?
Do we have to go to the game this weekend?
Why don't you come with me to the baby shower, you know what the Texans are going to do.

or my favorite - if they keep losing you may want to consider going to church because the Texans and your fantasy teams are in need of some divine intervention.

These are real questions and statements from the lovely Mrs. Kaiser Toro.

Eh, I was pretty upset after the Tampa Bay preseason game and the Buffalo game, because I expected a lot more. I am used to it now, and I am in the same "lose again this week" state of mind I was in our second season.

The Texans are NOT good enough to make a run at the layoffs. So all we have to look forward to is a good draft next year. So "if" they win any games this year it will irritate me. It is also gonna irritate me when we don't get to pick anyone in the 2nd or 3rd rounds because I beleive we gave those up for P-Buc... I say lose lose lose...

You're not a "real fan". Why don't you go root for another team!

Just kidding... just trying to get some points.

But anyway, the draft picks were for last year's draft.

LoL, This is funny. My wife calls me from work and asks how I'm doing on gamedays. She'll call maybe 2 or 3 times. Kickoff everything is GREAT, halftime everything is so so, 4th qtr - I hate this damn coach! WTF this and WTF that. BS Call - It was a TUCK rule. You get the hint. Is this our hurt Texans fan meeting?

Yes. It is the therapy session that we are all in dier need of. My brother always tells me, "I guarantee you that you are gonna die of a heart attack watching a Texans game."

I just find it so strange how football can affect your mood so much. The Texans organization puts so much money into advertising trying to sway Texas residents from being Cowboy fans to being Texans fans. The advertising has worked on me...and I am now addicted and a Texans fan since their inception. (Although I was never a Cowgirls fans...old Oilers).

But this organization has a responsibility to give us a good team. Even though they might break our undefeated streak in Battle Red against the Colts, I still bought some tickets and shall make the drive from Austin (at $3 gas mind you..) to give this team my support.

All that being said,

Two out of Three doctors don't recommend Texans Football.

Every Monday I dread coming into work because I'm bombarded with "How 'bout them Texans!" or "Texans suck!" from way too many people. I guess I'm an easy target since it's well known that I'm a fan win or lose. I try to blow it off but in reality it does make Mondays and sometimes Tuesdays almost unbearable because of the razzing.

I hate this also because I work with nothing but Cowboys fans. All I hear is How Bout Them Cowboys. Stupidest phrase ever.

This is a good question. :thumbup

To be honest, I've learned to put things in perspective. Not that I don't feel a little bummed out when I have high hopes that get tempered with reality...but...

A certain game in Houston football history taught me a very valuable lesson.

I shall not elaborate, other than 35-3...

But I went into a sad funk for a couple of weeks after that one. Strange, to be a spectator, and let an entertainment event effect my everyday mood, but it happened and it was real.

After that occasion, of truly believing that my team was Superbowl bound, I taught myself that happiness is a choice.

Maybe our expansion team hasn't really given us reason to have high hopes at this point in their history. Perhaps I'll forget my lessons of the past when they eventually become a good team that posts winning records and is expected to make the playoffs.

Lord knows I'm much more involved with the Texans than I ever was with the Oilers...season tickets since the inaugural year, tailgating every homegame, becoming friends with a internet forum devoted to the team...

But what the heck, 'eh? idonno:

At this point in our team's development, my emotional involvement with wins and losses is minimal, because I'm staying a realist.

Although, that could change with success. :howdy:

When we loose I feel sick! Even close losses make my stomach turn. I'm a very competetive person and I love my Houston sports teams but nothing compares to how the Texans can affect my mood. A loosing Sunday eats at me. My friends think I've lost my mind... but im a football nutt. For the 16 weeks out of the last 4 years that we've feilded a winning team I've been on cloud nine. A loss on Sunday brings me WAY down... then I gradually start to hype myself up again untill I level off on Saturday. Then it's rollarcoaster time again.

A neighbor last year actually put a fake pile of cow patty w/ a Texans sticker on it, inside my mailbox with a "how bout them Texans" note attached!

Retribution can be soooo rewarding :)

I cant even watch the games with people the root against the Texans. I get too pissed off at them running their beaks!

I get crap at work for them losing all the time too from UT college football fans. :tomato:

So.......Go OU! :tv:

Losing doesn't effect me the way it did when I was young. I suffered through some mighty lean years. We will call them the Ed Biles years, and for some time thereafter. It seemed hopeless, and I would just be terribly down all week. Now, it bothers me all of Sunday, and into the week, but I don't carry that weight on my shoulders like I did when I was a 20 yr old. I guess you could say that I have come to realize what's truly important. The other thing is that I am beginning to feel an emotional detachment kind of thing. Like I almost just don't give a rats *** anymore. The fish rots at the head, and all I see is a head that has been cut off, and a body that stinks, with flies feeding off it, and maggots coming out of it's stomach. Until the "head" is replaced, the body will continue to rot, and I will continue to become less and less emotionally attached.

Now, when they win, yes, my mood is lifted the entire week, and I have a bounce in my step that just isn't there when they lose. I guess you could say I am affected more positively when they win, then negatively when they lose. I'm just not sure a win right now would give me as much bounce in my step as usual, because really, nothing will have changed. Until fundamental change has occured, the situation is hopeless.

When I was a kid (early teens) I would get so upset by an Oilers loss I would rip posters off my wall. I got grounded for a month after our loss to Buffalo. I still get really into the games wins bring me way up and losses bring me way down but not to the point of breaking things. I guess as I get older the less destructive i'll become when my team looses.

Here's a little something that I learned that should help all of us.

When we have a bad day at work.... The Texans don't lose any sleep over us why should we when they do.

When I was a kid, that damn team of ours would drive me up the wall and I would be ticked off all week. I'm a fan but I just don't put that much value on something like a sporting event. I enjoy watching and it's great when they win but I'm not going to get bent out of shape over it. I think I have spent too many years where I can't see ANY games to really be that in touch with it any more.

Can't really understand grown men and women crying because "their" team lost. I think it's funny actually to watch people get all worked up. Where I watched the game this weekend there was a Cincy fan jumping around like an *****. He didn't talk trash but everytime something didn't go right or the Texans started looking good he would have a fit. If the Texans would have won I think his head would have exploded. I used to be that way, just think I grew out of it.

:texflag:

Could we sticky this as a group therapy session? LoL. I'm glad to know I am not the only one in this boat.

When I was in highschool I would fight you if you came and said something like Oilers suck. I am not kidding. The crazy part is how I would go about doing it. I would act like everything is okay and then later in the day when you didn't see it coming I would just kick your ***! I put a kid in a trash can and rolled him down the stairs one time.

Then the team moved and I realized how much of a business this is more than anything else.

I'll only admit to a tear in my eye while watching one sporting event.

Game 7 of the Rockets vs Knicks.

That was pretty emotional for a longtime Houston sports fan to finally see what a championship is like.

As for losing...I tend to get frustrated but not really angry.

I honestly think that if the Texans won a super bowl, i would tear up. Especially since ive followed them since their inception....they are like my baby. Im watching them grow up...but they are having a little trouble.

Yikes, haven't heard that name in quite awhile. Those were bad years to be a Houston football fan, without a doubt.

Please, though, for the sake of football karma, never mention that name in this forum again. We don't need to take any chances, 'eh? :heh:

Good post, man, and I agree with you 100%. I let myself feel up when they win, and I control my mood when they lose.

Remember, folks, happiness is a choice! :)

I get depressed for a day or 2, I had a good friend who totally lost it all week long over an Oilers loss and I swore I would never get like that, my wife thought I had lost my mind last weekend, one minute Im throwing my hat at the tv and cussing, then I switched to the Stros game and was trying to get high fives from her.

I get pretty depressed after the game. I don't watch much football after that until the next week.

I think the losses will be harder when the Texans are expected to win and don't. The Oiler losses in the early 90's would kill me because they had so much talent that they never seemed to live up to.

This season has been tough, but I can't ever see myself giving up on the team no matter how bad they look. I just have this feeling that when we finally do win having gone through these hard years will make it that much sweeter.

I know someone who always makes fun of me for caring so much about the Texans because they "suck". But I know as soon as the Texans become good he will be right there rooting for them with me as if he had been the entire time. Something dishonest about that in my opinion.

Oh, I dunno - I think some of them are playing their cards right to achieve that, though most would perfer the 180 and make a run at the playoffs. ;)

Just messin'.

Fortunately or not... I think I've grown accustomed to their current style, so yeah - I get upset right after the game but by the next day I'm over it to a degree. I'll still discuss it if need be, but it's more to state some facts and such. Now if they win - it's more of a "WTF they won?!?!" and yeah I have a better week.

St. McNair save the fans. Deliver us from field written notes, and lead us into the promised game. Amen.

Ya know, I have thought about it some more and I think that I am just apathetic. I am so used to seeing Houston be a failure, crash and burn in every sport, that I am conditioned to expect the worst. Yeah, I know, the Rockets, whoopee. No one does anything the 18 years of my life I live in Houston, I go to boot camp and MCT and everywhere BUT Houston and these pinheads go on a 15 game rampage to open the season. I go to Hawaii and they decide to win the Championship. NONE of the games of which I got to see because the freaking time change is so crazy that the games came on at 3 in the afternoon.

Yeah, I'm a little bitter. I guess I am just used to the pain so I can get over it easier.

I will say though, I was never a hockey fan till I got stationed in Hawaii. My room mate was from Detroit so I kind of became a Wing fan because of him. That was great to see, to have all your teams be nothing but a pack of losers and to finally have one that was a winner. That was really different. Yeah, I know that Dallas has the Stars, but I refuse to have anything to do with that place.

Then you are in for a terrible year. But I honestly know how you feel. I am the same way. I never expected much of the Texans until this year. I am thoroughly disgusted with the way we are playing as so many other fans. Who do I blame for this? Capers......

In a wierd way when the teams I root for loose I come out ahead!
My wife gives me pitty sex when the Aggies, 'Stros, Rockets or Texans loose!
When they win I am usually to drunk and cocky to get any "lovin"!
Needles to say rootin for the teams I do (especially the Ags) gets me plenty!

And so how do you feel this morning.... As Houston sports fans we are probably in need of MORE therapy.

I feel like I had open heart surgery with no anesthectic. If the Astros don't win in St. Louis, 35-3 may be erased as the greastest collapse ever.

I couldn't believe that Lidge pitched to Pujols. I told my wife when he came to the plate that this guy is an astros killer. Put him on. The announcers had been saying all series that the one guy you don't want to beat you is Pujols. What do we do? Pitch to him in a game winning situation. Unbelievable. It reminds me of the 86 mets. They came from 3 runs down in the 9th to make it a 16 inning loss for us. Then they play Boston in the world series. Boston is 1 strike away from winning the world series. Cops on horses are all around the field to keep the crowd back when Boston wins the series. A routine ground ball goes underneath Buckner's glove and they go on to lose the game. Next game is a complete blowout and the Mets win the world series. If the Astros don't go on and win in St. Louis then they will forever be remembered like the Oilers were in the Bills playoff comeback. As chokers. We will have to hear it and see it replayed as a classic on espn. The city of Houston needs this one bad.

I don't think of them as chokers but you know that that is what we will be hearing if they don't pull this out.
