Totally agree. Would actually love if he pushed someone for a starting spot. Not sure how likely that is outside of Green though.
On Josh Jones, I believe the Texans coaching staff has knowledge of him from the past couple of seasons. The Niners defense has gone up against Jones twice a season the past 2 years. And Texans DC Matt Burke saw Jones 1st hand in practices when he was the Cardinals d-line coach in 2022. If the coaches gave the thumbs up, I'm good. Jones is very large and long, but not the guy you would think ZBS would be his forte.

Not really but I did see this draft stock analysis of him from 247 sports from a few years ago. He looks like a warm body to me.

I vaguely remember him from draft research, but I haven't followed his pro career. From what I've read of his pro career, he's been more or less "fair value" based on draft position. Getting a guy that can back up at three spots, can play LT longer term and not embarrass you if you lose your starter, and a guy from Houston...all for a swap of 7th for a 5th?

This is the sort of sneaky under-the-radar trade that could pay big dividends in the event of injury. I'm not 100% sure he is a great scheme fit, but he must be reasonably able to play within the scheme, or they wouldn't have pulled the trigger.

IMO you should do more research on a player prior to dismissing them as a warm body. Especially one that has had success in the NFL. Plus, for all we know, since he is a Houston native he might have family or friends reading this very forum. Would be crappy for them to see the young man dismissed with such meaningless info by a poster on this forum.

I get this, Even if Stingley isn't as good as Sauce, if he can stay healthy he can be a top tier CB for a long time.
Green wasn't healthy when he was drafted, got more hurt and had offseason surgery which affected his ability to workout. Although not in the best of shape strength wise, he looked like he had improved this TC/preseason. Then he got hurt again last night. It's beginning to look like a trend. Any word on the severity of his latest injury?

It seems like Jones hedges against both Tytus Howard’s injury that may see him miss the start of the season whilst also being a serious threat to Kenyon Green’s starter status at LG.
As such, I’m seeing him as a bit more than just a warm body, he’s the kind of late pre-season pickup that can be pretty crucial to a teams W/L record come December.
Certainly, the depth on the OL looked really worrying early in the pre season, and he looks to be quality depth at minimum.

Well, it looks like whether we're talking about Green or Stingley the Texans are going through the same growing pains they always have. Draft or sign promising players and watch them sit on IR for weeks (or even seasons) at a time. Right now is about the time Mike Holovak would have gone out and shaken a few trees to find a promising center like for instance Jim Romano or maybe even Charlie Casserly would have gone and grabbed a Steve McKinney (or Rick Smith finding Chris Meyers). There's a guy out there somewhere right now who could come in and solidify the OL and fix this problem. You think Stroud is going to be the guy? You really believe in him? Then go slightly over pay for the guy you need to make it happen because you trot out a JAG to hold the middle together and you might as well be signing up for another damaged rookie who is gone in four years.
