I know alot of ppl are not happy with the fact we are destroying and rebuilding our defense. But im glad that it happened, it was very unexpected because i thought Casserly and Capers were too afraid to make drastic moves.

Players who will be out this year or next year:

Aaron Glenn- reportededly has been granted to seek a trade. I think he will eventually be gone, even though i would of loved for him to stay, but we can actually live without him because of the confidence of our two cbs we currently have and even though we will lose veteren leadership, i think Dunta will come into his own and it will affect our whole secondary. Dunta was the clear cut leader of our defense at the end of the season last year anyways.

Gary Walker- Travis Johnson was drafted in the 1st round. Which means G.Walker could be out this season and most definitely be out next season. Time is ticking. Losing him won't have any affect at all, without seeing TJ play one snap in the NFL, il take TJ over GW from what i saw from him last year. If we do cut GW this year, Ioane and TJ will probably battle for that position.

Mckinney/Wiegert- Im pretty sure these two guys will be out next year if Mckinney played the same way he did last year and Wiegert continues to have his injuries. If i was GM i would groom Drew Hodgon and sign a premiere/solid RG in FA next year. We could live without these two guys, basically anyone will be equal or more productive then these guys if they keep up the bad work. Will stay this year, but will be out next year.

Wong/Payne/Coleman- These guys are all in the same position, They will have to perform well or they could be like Walker, Sharper, and Glenn of next year.

I have a gut feeling that A.Glenn and G.Walker will be June 1st cuts. Sometimes u have to take a step backwards in order to take a quantum leap. PPL may disagree, but im supporting Casserly and Capers 100 percent.
 
I'll go with that. I just can't wait to see how it all shakes out. I'm glad we went with TJ instead of an OT. I think the O-line will be a much better unit after having a year together under their belts. I like the way the D is shaping up. We could have a decent pass rush this year if everyone stays healthy.
 
In order to get the d back to where it was when we started and have it progress he had to make some serious changes and the management is doing that. While we will miss some of the players, they're play will live on in our memories and hopefully will be upgraded by players who will lead the city of houston to a super bowl.
 
I don't see Walker getting cut. We just don't have the depth to do it yet. I think he is safe this year. He better perform though or he knows he is a goner next year.

I am begining to think that we may see some 4-3 thrown into the mix from time to time this season. We really don't have the DL for it, but some would say we don't really have the DL for the 3-4 either... :) We definately don't have anything resembling a rush-end, so I would expect it only on the traditional running downs...
Actually, as I write this I am beginning to see that it isn't really feasible, but since I already typed this much I'll post it anyway. :wacko:
I'd like some comments from those of you with either some inside info, or more experience evaluating such things. Is there any possiblity that we may see some 4-3 situationally this season?
 
good post I was pondering the same question "back to expansion team status" except with a more experienced & youthfull team in fold. if Glenn does leave I would look for the Texans to restructure Phillip Buchanon's contract. seems like salary cap dumps and re-directing funds to compete for the next 5 years. only problem is I don't see the Texans record reflecting a big improvement in wins, I would take .500 right now. the 5 year plan looks like the Texans re-tooled but for the 10 year plan, which is OK with me its just you still have to win and fill Relient to keep fans happy. drafting a bunch of unknowns and dealing away fan favorites may be a tough road to travel for the expansion Texans :cool:

& Capers down and explained to them that he didn't become a billionaire(this guy is "self-made", its not old, inherited money), by accepting less return on his investments than what he expected. Furthermore if returns fell short of his expectations, managerial changes were made and I would imagine he looked directly into the eyes of Cass & Capers when he said that.
At that point I suspect Cass & Capers said something along these lines to their S.Carolina boss "Yes Sir Mr. Bob, we want to keep being your boys but we might need to let some older, but real popular players with fan base go" and Big Bad Bob replyed they should do what they needed to do to remain on his payroll.

I'd cast that idea aside. Look back at last season and instead of adding DLmen on passing downs, the Texans subtracted them. Many passing downs had 2 DL and an extra LB. At times they have even gone one DLmen. Capers loves LB's. I expect more scheming in that direction before moves to a 4-3.
 
I believe it is still the 5 year plan they talked about. At first we drafted in the expansion draft and those guys were coming here to allow us to be competitive while we build. The guys we drafted in the previous years are now veterans and should be taking that next step in their careers. If you notice, this is the first year (now the 4th year of existence) where everyone on the team does not have a safe job and will start having to take their game more seriously or they are out. This will bring up the competition level and create team unity.

The one thing I don't like is letting Glenn go. We can do without him but this was a guy that was a leader that took his role and ran with it. He contributed to the team, and he remained positive. You kind hope to keep a guy like that still so that he can be there when we get over the playoff hump.

I would like us to remember though, that the team that won the last 3 of 4 Super Bowls has done more with less. When Lawyer Milloy was let go, many thought NE was done, but boy did they have a nice turnaround.

are u trying to say that That the Master himself stole from Dom Capers?

We can play 4-3 but we play the nickel 44% of the time and that will most involve Bear Smith and Travis Johnson playing tackles Peek and Babin playing DE's and Wong and Greenwood playing LB. Same can be said about dime too, just take wong out insert demarcus faggins or Lewis Sanders.
 
I'd hate to see Glenn go too, but he did not have his best year last year. I saw him get burned too many times like he was injured or something.

Capers built the Panthers to win immediately and then they got old too quick. They never built the Texans that way, but he's trying to inject some youth and manage the cap at the same time. They are not a few pieces of the puzzle away from winning a championship (i.e Eagles adding TO). They're still in a situation that a few key injuries could equate to a sub .500 season.

If Caper's Defense can't get to the quarterback this year then he may be the one who is gone next year. Someone has to become the Kevin Greene and Lamar Lathon of the Texans.

I agree. They brought in a lot of starters the first couple of seasons. The problems this created is that there weren't a lot of holes on the team after they jettisoned the likes of Matt Stevens et al. However, there are very few Pro Bowl type players. You cannot afford to pay even solid starters Pro Bowler money. I think what will happen this year is that they will use it to evaluate both sides of the ball. They will use their cap room from the current cuts (and the new TV money) to go out and make the splash next off-season.
 
So now that Glenn is possibly gone along with Sharper, who is going to be the leader of the defense? D-Rob? Greenwood? Moreno? A rookie?

I hope noone becomes our Lamar Lathon. He was a bust if I ever saw one. The "Sudden Impact" was his career hitting the skids. We DO, however, need someone to start getting mean and nasty on D. We've played like chior boys so far.
 
our expansions expansion Texans 2005! this should be one of the best expansion teams in recent years with 6 1st round picks led by David Carr, Andre Johnson, Dunta Robinson, Jason Babin, Travis Johnson and Phillip Buchanon (forgive me for omitting anyone else). The corners are young but have league experience (a first) backed by with a solid group of LB's, good over the top safety's and capable defensive front. The offensive line is also experienced with a blend of young and old should finally be able to stay together as a unit & provide adequate protection to franchise QB David Carr giving him the time he needs to better read defenses & stand in the pocket. His weapons should be split between PRO BOWL Andre Johnson & feature back Domianck Davis, both who now have solid back-ups.

my expansions expansion should finish around .500 not bad afterall considering
