Desmond Bishop and other players

Blake

MMQB
I want to see what people think about the following players.

Round1: Joe Thomas, LT, Wisconsin. How did he play in his bowl game, and do you think he will be around when we pick at #8?

Round2: Michael Griffin, S, Texas. Is this guy first round material, or could be end up slipping to the 2nd?

Round3: Desmond Bishop, LB, California. Had a great bowl game, and is listed as a MLB. Do you think he could switch to OLB successfully? Who would you take in his place to fill the OLB spot in the 3rd round?

I thought Joe Thomas should have been called for holding several times. I know he is supposed to be good, and he sure has good holding technique.

Well based on performances from a Bowl standpoint. Joe Thomas made himself worthy of whoever picks him IMO. He is very fast and quick on his feet. If we can still draft him at #8 (unlikely) I am all for it.

When I saw Bishop play, I couldn't help but imagine how he helsp Demeco even more. In terms of him playing he could play middle and OLB and that would make a heck of a tandem.

Agreed: He didn't have his best game of the season. But you saw what he is. I highly doubt he'll be there at 6 much less the eight. And Rick Smith is indicating, he's moving down not up. Joe Thomas went out the window with the two game win streak.

There are several prosects at LB who will slip and be an up grade over what we have starting now. I believe Bishiop is one of them. So is Duncan of BC.
Remeber, we're looking for Wills & Sams. Unless they going to move the DROY.

wasnt Ryans an OLB at Bama? He was all over the field every time I watched Arkansas play them. Just dominated the games. He is a gamer. Doesnt matter where he lines up, he will produce. That said, it seems like he could do more damage outside. I'd like to see somebody a little bit bigger at MLB to take that pounding for years.

JT pretty much dominated the LOS. I saw maybe 4 plays all game where the DE wasn't attatched to JT when the ball was thrown...and on those few plays, JT pushed him 7 yards past his QB. Basicly, he is the only OT who should go top 20.

Some sleepers will emerge. I like the BSU LT last night.

LB's are one of the easiest positions to cherry pick. Most teams get wowed by measurables, but LB is an instinct position. Many guys will fall because of a tenth of a second. Many guys will rise because of a tenth of a second. Do people understand that is not even enough time for a RB to turn his head to see the slower guy? Everetts will rise, Davis will fall. Alexander will fall. Bishop will fall as well. There are plenty of OLB's we can get 2nd round - 4th round that would start over Orr and Greenwood.

To answer an original question...Bishop is more of a pure MLB, but if we were to move him outside, it would be to SAM.

Griffin is still a mid 2nd rounder at best. He didn't hurt his stock in the bowl game, but didn't help it either. There are some other S's that I might draft ahead of him. Merriwether should go ahead of him, even with his problems.

To me if it isn't broke you shouldn't fix it. Keep Ryans there and find what you need to the side of him.

I really want an upgrade over Shantee Orr.

Is it correct that Greenwood is the cover LB, the Will, or weakside linebacker, and Orr is the Sam, or strongside? I think Bishop would be an excellent SAM linebacker at 6'2" 243 lbs.

I think the Texans should stay away from players like Merriwether. Look at Miami U, and the Bengals. both are flooded with bad seeds like him.

I guess we all pretty much think that Joe Thomas is not going to happen. We will either stick at #8, or trade down.

I think Alan Branch is an unbelievable player, and with the iffy play from Travis, would be a smart move to fill that role with a 6'6" 330 DT from a powerhouse school like Michigan. This guy is a stud, so im not sure he will last to #8.

DE Mario Williams
DT Travis Johnson
DT *Alan Branch
DE Anothony Weaver

SOLB *Desmond Bishop
MLB Demeco Ryans
WOLB Morlon Greenwood

CB Dunta Robinson
FS *Michael Griffin
SS C.C. Brown/Glen Earl
CB Demarcus Faggins

Thate nice But I would rather go with this

I would also like to add that on the first day of free agency when ever body else is distracted with nate clements we should go hard after Samuel. If you insert Asante Samuel in the starting spot for Faggins we would have a awesome secondary.

There, it's fixed! :yahoo: lol:

I can't figure out why everyone thinks Travis Johnson is going to be the starting DT next year. He will be lucky to make the team! Y'all do realize that was Thomas Johnson out there playing most of the season and that Travis has been on IR for a long time? Even if we don't draft a DT I still think Travis will have a hard time making the team. JMHO!

Travis just has the size, and strength to be really good. I think we are assuming that he will get his act together, and return to his senior form. Also it seems that first round big money players always get the most chance to win back the starting role.

I dont think Samuel is as good as Nate Clements. Nate can play short ball, long ball and the run. He should be the biggest $$$ FA this year. And he will be worth it.

As far as Reggie Nelson, Im just not ready to take a saftey #8 overall. There are no Sean Taylors this year.
