DE's

hot pickle

Canada Eh
this might be old news but theres a video on the home page and richard smith said peek and babin willl be DE's

I just read where Smith said he would like to use Peek as a linebacker,on the homepage.

right as of right now peek would be used as the team's strongside outside linebacker...not defensive end...babin will probably move to weakside DE but Peek does not have the size or strength to be a strongside DE...he will stay at OLB where he will have to prove he can cover in passing situations

I don't know about Peek. He better seriously hit the gym and the kitchen to gain some wait and some strength, or else he's going to be useless on that line. I don't think Peek can cut it as a LB, so if he doesn't get himself into DE shape, then he's as good as gone. Babin I think will be better at DE than at LB.

If I understood him correctly this morning, when asked by Lance Zerline 610 radio, Smith said there were some linebackers that had played DE in college & had been asked to play OLB. He gave the example of Jeff Posey as Smith was the one who converted him from DE to LB. Smith said difficult to do and Posey took years to develope skills.

Peek seems like he could pull a double duty type thing. Strongside Backer during run plays and pass rush specialist. I think if we add Mario Williams as the strongside DE then we will definately be able to use some different combinations at the weakside DE position.

I agree drafting a beast like Mario will allow some flexability on the otherside of the line not to mention opening up a blitz lane for a LB or corner.

I'm leaning towards drafting Mario instead of D'Brick. Any tackle we get in the second round will be much closer to D'Brick than any other DE in the draft is to Mario (if they both live up to expectations).

Drafting for defense in the 1st round three years in a row may be hard for some to take though.

It sure would be nice to trade one of our many DT's for a DE or draft pick...

Put Gary Walker on Strong Side (left) defensive end. Put Babin at weak side (pass rusher usually) end. Throw Travis Johnson and Robaire Smith at the defensive tackles, and we have the potential to have a great defensive line.

As for our 3 linebackers. Wong Middle, Peek Will, Greenwood Sam.

Our front 8 is good enough to be an elite group in the nfl, we just need a good scheme and confidence. Defense isnt all about talent, its mostly the scheme used.

Walker could play there if they can't get someone like Williams or Abraham. He'd be better than Babin or Peek, but he's not quick enough to be the regular starter and have the line be dominant.

I hope no one was going to hope too much for Vanden Bosch, because he's close to signing a 4-year extension with the Titans.

Well then they better sign him to a contract, because he's a RFA.

Where does Seth Payne fit into that equation? He just signed an extension before this year, and I'd rather have him (run stuffer) than Travis Johnson at DT.

well by my calculations either payne or walker maybe even both will be traded...it makes no sense to have that many quality starters on payroll for only two open spots...so i think we have to trade one of them...payne might be easy to trade to new york jets since they wanted to sign him badly last year...they still need quality DT's as well...walker we might be able to trade to more teams due to his play when healthy...buffalo needs to get rid of moulds and we need a #2 reciever

how crazy is this:
texans and jets jump into bed:
payne and the no 1 overall, for abraham, the no 4 and their 2nd rounder (#35)?

great point babin was a awsome DE coming out of W.Mich. he would be a good fit for the 4-3.

Peek hes not built for a DE but he does have the skills to play one. he's great on the pass rush but thats the reason why they will keep him on OLB

It shouldn't be that much different than when we had the 3-4 as far as alignment goes. Babin can control the LDE spot and Walker should be right next to him, then you throw in Robaire/TJ/Payne next to that and then have Peek at the other end. All we are doing is taking out a DT, presumably Payne. We would still have Babin, Wong, Greenwood Peek in there with that addition of 2 more linebackers. We have a lot of money sitting the bench, so I'm pretty sure one of those DT's is going to be let go. IMO, switching to the 4-3 this year is not a good idea.

Agreed. The defense is what I am most interested in watching take shape.

Love the avatar SES.

IIRC, Peek is the one that I saw draw more double teams. If he can draw the double teams as a OLB in the 3-4, he should definately be able to do it as a 4-3 DE. He played DE in college and rewrote Cincinnati’s record book over four seasons, setting school career marks in sacks (27 ½), forced fumbles (14), fumble recoveries (10) and blocked kicks (6).
