Derek Newton strip

mridge01

Rookie
Of all the mind blowing miscues from the Falcon game (and there were a lot) this is the most mind boggling. To me it looks like Derek Newton was trying to strip Foster of the ball. I'm not saying that's what happened, but that's what it looked like. WTF?

I love his instincts to knock the ball out at least.
Seems like we should move him to defensive end.
That was the best fumble forced in the game.
It's just too bad it was a self inflicting turnover.

Almost didn't read this thread -- thought, for just a second, it might be a NSFW bunch of fat-guy photos..
Thank god it wasn't..

Or maybe the sunday special at Taste of Texas steakhouse..

Don't worry about it. It's mostly surrounding another Texans suck point which you have no interest in. Go back to drinking your kool-aid. Good day sir.

Where do you get this koolaid nonsense from? Where have I been full of sunshine or koolaid? That's just a lazy way to categorize someone.

I genuinely asked what discussion were you looking for. Or is koolaid drinking all you've got?

I didn't actually see this play. I had lost interest in the game at this point. I heard that Newton directly caused a fumble, but I couldn't picture in my mind how this actually went down.

And now I see that still shot and I still can't figure out what is going on.

Newton got spun around on his blocking assignment and midspin he flailed his big dumb arm out in a big dumb uncoordinated way becauses he's a big uncoordinated oaf and in doing so managed to time his big dumb flailing arm just as Foster got near him.

It was tragistupid.

Dammit Arian! Get two hands on the ball when you're near a teammate, you have developed a reputation for fumbling... now your Oline is going to be trying to strip the ball every time you have it.

Mike

I just never viewed Arian Foster as a big-time fumble guy. That one fluke play aside, should we expect Arian to still be a top three running back in the game or is he already at the tail end of his career? People keep saying he has two or three good years left, but Adrian Peterson is old too, and he's still running strong despite several games missed in recent years with injuries and suspension.

What's the discussion?

Oh look another new thread that could've been added to a previous thread about the game.

No one's disagreeing with you that the team is not good, you're just not making insightful observations. You're just b!tching. Mollywhopper is correct to ask what the point of the thread is. If it's to b!tch about one of 100 mistakes made in the game, then why didn't you just add it to the other thread where the other 99 mistakes are already being discussed? Why start identical conversations in multiple threads?

I'm guessing the answer is that you want the attention. Or to be king of pity party mountain. Either way, starting a new thread is self-centered and clutters things up.

That's about it. I thought Arian just fumbled without contact. Once I saw the replay it was definitely a wtf was that. It truly did blow my mind. I just couldn't come to grips to what could've possibly been going through Newtons head to make him do that.

It was like he was reaching out to grab Arian saying "No man, turn around and go the other way"

From the Game Day Thread in response to Gwallia's comment "He's (Newton) a moron!" right after it happened.:

You're right. But Foster was only ~2 feet away from (I believe a LB) that broke through.......and still was swinging his ball arm away from his body. New is a moron. But there was definitely inexcusable ball security 101 lapse on the part of Foster, who hasn't had to practice it in contact context before this game.

I was making a joke. Arian shouldn't have to cover the ball with two hands as he's running by his own lineman in the backfield with no defender near him.

Schofield was within a second of nailing Foster for a loss when he was holding the ball away from his body.

In regards to Foster, one of the reasons he was an UDFA is because he was known as fumble prone in college.

In regards to Newton, I think he got lost on the play, knew he was in trouble, saw movement from the corner of his eyes and reached out not expecting Foster to be there since the run was designed to go up the middle and not to be bounced outside to where Newton was spinning around. Newton wasn't expecting Foster to be in his space so presumed the movement was a defender not his back.

Just watched the replay. THAT was the dumbest play in the history of Houston Texans football. Were talking going BEYOND anything Jacoby Jones, Case Keenum or Randy Bullock ever did. That, my friend, sets the standard for the ultimate Houston Texans bone-headed highlight!

Rosencopter was worse.

If you don't sh!t on the Texans and say how much they suck and you cheer on the team, you're a koolaid drinker.

I'm not saying this was intentional by Newton, but it sure looks like it. I watch that video above over and over again and there's no one near Newton and he's facing Foster so it's not like it was some blind swinging of his arm. I would hope the Texans fully investigate this and sit Newton down for a talk with O'Brien and Smith. How do you trust a guy after something like this.

How are you liking Rick re- signing Newton to a multiple yr contract?

Newton is a very good OG that's playing OT.

Yep, the right thing to do is accept the fact the McNair's have contiued to build a loser yr after yr and just accept it for what it is and certainly dont ever voice your displeasure.

At this point is this anything more than a fluke? What possible reason could Newton have had for stripping the ball?

I can't help but laugh every time I see that.

Wtf man??? Lmao

Out of all the places his meaty fist could land...he lands a perfect punch to the football to knock it out...

I just don't get this.

Did anyone in the media ask about this play?

How is your method better? I can admit they are a bad team, and that I am a fan of a bad team that I hope improves.

I ask again how is your method better?

Come on a forum and continually say they suck and if you root for them you are somehow contributing to the "suck"? Well you aren't going to stop these other people from posting, so this in not effective.

Give up your season tickets? Go ahead they have a long waiting list of people who will snatch your tickets up and Bob won't notice you aren't there anymore, again not effective.

Don't buy their merchandise or watch the game? Sure most people who take the time to come to a forum are concerned about wins and losses (at least at some level - even the so called Koolaid squad) but we would be the vast minority.

I know plenty of people who buy tickets to the game and only go for the experience, the tailgating, the food, the excitement, the booze, the friends. And the same for watching the game at home, they invite friends and family and the game is about the experience and the win/loss doesn't mean much if anything to them.

If you got everyone on this forum to agree we would completely boycott the Texans until they made changes... who the hell would notice? So how is the method of "they suck and we are allowing them to suck" working out?

I'm actually not trying to change your opinion - I just don't see the need for the continual arguing between the Koolaid squad and the Suck patrol? They are varying opinions on the same topic where both sides have the same chance of influencing the direction of the team. Nill.

This is Bob McNair's team and as a fan of his team I will continue to point out when the team stinks and my opinion on why they stink. Sorry if that hurts your feelings.

I realize that as long as the McNair's are making $$$$ hand over fist the fanbase will continue to have no ipact on how the McNair's run their corporate brand type of team.

BTW, you didn't answer the Newton type FA re- signing with being the way that Smith has done business for the last decade.

Ok I think I see what happened. Looks like Newton was trying to get to the defender after being spun around and wackiness ensued. Looks like he was disoriented and when he saw the defender he didn't realize foster was now between them. He got that hand up to get to the defender and the Texans curse kicked in and he punched the ball. Just sloppy Benny Hill theme song material right there.

Just an awful job by him. I'd have had steam coming out of my ears and eyes if I was the oline coach. He's trying to influence this small DE up field, tries to use a club move and the DE just uses his force against him and spins him like a top.

What garbage technique. If the guy is not going up field like you want, you go get him and just block him out. You can't club a guy past you that's not running upfield.

Ughhhh...

Newton's footwork has always been sub par although he did improve somewhat last yr. Plus Newton is flat out dumb. IMHO

Well 1st - Impossible for anything posted on an forum to hurt my feelings.

2nd - I don't disagree with the main point - Rick Smith has never been a great GM let along a good GM. I never would have hired him and didn't agree with it at the time. I believe we have always lacked someone who can evaluate NFL talent.

3rd - I didn't respond to your Newton post but your rant again on "continue to accept it" as if I have some option to change what Bob does or who he hires.

4th - Newton, hasn't he overall looked pretty good this year (and last year)? One stupid play and he is the worst o lineman in the league? And not his fault he is a OG playing OT. Bob and Ricks fault for playing him there or not getting better.

But overall I guess yes I do "accept" all of this as I am continuing to be a fan of the Texans. You don't accept it, or it least it seems that way. How is that working towards changing anything over on Kirby?

Derek Newton is tied for the lead in forced fumbles. Bill likes versatile guys, looks like he can not only play anywhere on the OL, he can play on the DL too!

Jabar Gaffney esque. As a Texan he once fumbled untouched at the half yard line one time. Took a sure six points away from us. Of course, he looked pretty good as a Patriot playing with Tom Brady. Just like Keshawn Martin is now doing.

Maybe the Patriots will trade us s 4th or 5th round pick for Jaelen Strong. Cut our losses now for the third-round stud out of ASU. He'll become an All Pro wideout with the Patriots but he can't get any playing time here because of practice issues. Righttttttt.

I will continue to be a fan of the Texans and I have to accept things are the way they are. I just enjoy pointing out their incompetence. (Nothing wrong with that) I dont rant over these kinds of things I just like to debate and talk to other Texans fans about the current state of the team and what they would do differently. This doesn't mean anything will ever change on Kirby, nor do I expect that. There's too much $$$$ being made for the McNair's to change the way they do business.

Fair enough.

It's pretty funny that you guys think the backlash has anything to do with your "message".
