DeMeco Ryans!!!!

I LOVE IT

this guy can ball

Finally, an athletic linebacker. Very productive player, and VERY smart.

WTH was that????

Thomas Howard with 4.49 speed at OLB and had a GREAT Senior Bowl is out there and JIMMY WILLIAMS 6'2 205 Lbs with 4.35 SPEED at CornerBack

WHAT A WAY TO WASTE YET ANOTHER 2nd ROUND PICK!

I started this thread because the server is locked up in the other one.

I don't know much about this guy, anyone have any info about him. Its kinda of a surprise to me

I'm right there with ya... I don't understand this pick.

I really think CB and OL were positions we needed to look at in the second round... But no, we take a linebacker, Dameco Ryans (who is a good player, I just think we needed someone else)

make up your mind, with Mario we took a measurables guy with questionable production.

now we take a productive college player with out "blow you away" measurables, and still complaining?

Demeco is a very smart kid, and will be awesome

Would have rather had Jimmy Williams or Winston Justice, because I think we had a bigger need at those positions.

Demeco Ryans is a good player though...

I'm pretty excited. Go for a DE and now a LB. Great. We have another 2 picks coming soon. I say we go for best OL available, a TE or/and DE/LB.

You may be right but I was hoping for O-line finally or a CB..Jimmy Williams would have done nice for me.

This is a good pick.

DeMeco Ryans LB 6’1 229 Alabama
By: Robert Davis

You will not find a player that has more off the field accolades than DeMeco Ryans. He has racked up just about every academic honor a player can receive. All Academic SEC, Academic All American, and even the Arthur Ashe sports scholar award. Ryans does not just get after it in the classroom, he is one of the best college linebackers in the country. He played as a true freshman, but did not really have a big impact, finishing the 2002 season with 27 tackles in a reserve role. As a sophomore though, he made every opposing coach take note of where he was at. He finished the season with 126 tackles, with 8.5 of them for loss. His numbers dipped a bit during his junior campaign, but still had a very good year with 78 tackles, seven of them for loss. Ryans redeemed himself as a senior, having his best season and earning numerous All American honors for his success. The SEC Defensive Player of the Year finished the season with 76 tackles, 12 for loss, five sacks, and an interception.

Ryans is a very good all around talent at linebacker. His strength is reacting to plays in front of him and closing on the ball. DeMeco has excellent read and react skills. He can see the play develop and close on the ball carrier before the play gets going. He does not let up anywhere on the field and goes full tilt at all times. The intelligence he has in the classroom carries over to the football field.

In order for him to make his presence felt at the next level, Ryans is going to have to pack on some weight. Checking in at 229 at the Senior Bowl, Ryans does not have the bulk or strength to hold up at the point against NFL blockers. He also lacks blazing speed to make up for any size issue he may have.

Ryans has been a big part of Alabama’s return to their winning ways this season, and it has helped him improve his draft stock. He definitely has the talent to play at the next level as long as he can bulk up a bit to match up better. He will not wow you with his physical tools, but he makes plays. He should hear his name called in the Top 50, with a good shot at landing in the first round.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Either of those two guys would have been great. Would have been a nice slap in the face to pick Lendale White too, lol.

How could we pass on Winson Justice? Knowing are history I mean Carr can't even take a 5 step drop for crying out loud! Ya this guy might be ok but this guy was projected to be a top 10 pick and we need Oline. It would helped ALOT and if we don't get some kind of OT im gonna be pissed.

Ryans is a hell of a football player. I love his instincts and smarts, which are both particularly important at LB. There is still ALOT of o-line talent available, we will get someone.

Simply put, Ryans owns...New England was looking at him at 21 and he slipped to us...Now matter where we put him, he will thrive...We finally have a couple of playmakers in our front 7...

For those who think we should just trade down and get all of the left over talent, don't you think all the other teams see the talent and think why do we need to trade up.

This was a good pick, I would have liked to see the O-Line addressed, but we still have 2 picks today.

Justice has a lot of charater concerns. Remember the draft is loaded with O-linemen. Hope we pick up a CB next!

If you like paying Carr Johnson and Moulds people like that money not to produce anything you better hope for an OT sometime this decade.

Dunta's great
PBUC- what he can't tackle, he's a pure cover corner, and i'd expect not having to rely on him making a tackle, i admit, and he admits that he played bad but, i think this is gonna help him have a break out season!

Buchanon is nothing more a punt returner and a nickel back. Just like Faggins. We need a solid #2 corner, and you are kidding yourself if you don't think so. Jimmy Williams would have fit that mold nicely.

I liked Demaco Ryans in this draft. In fact, I had him in the 1st round. I actually got the position right in my Texans mock, as I had Thomas Howard as our pick at #33. So, I like the pick in the sense that it's not out of left field, and he is good value imo at that spot, so I'm not upset at all in that sense. BUT - with our lack of pass protection throughout our history, or a REAL LT, and Winston Justice sitting there, who has top 10 talent imo, I don't know how you pass on him. This is nowhere near the flub that the 1st pick was, and a case can be made that Ryans is the right pick, but I would have gone Justice, or even Eric Winston. I think now that one of those 3rd rounders HAS to be a tackle, or they have failed yet again to address the oline.

The powers that be must have a lot of confidence in Buchanon and our high school caliber offensive tackles if they're taking a LB at this point.

See...this is the part that worries me. He's currently too small and too slow???? Ok, pack on some weight, then get slower?

absolutly HORRIBLE pick!

Cant say that enough.

6'2 205 CB out there, Thomas Howard at OLB faster, better production, and we dont even think about it. Thanks Charlie for the continued crappy picks in the 2nd round

BTW WE NEED A MLB not MORE OLBs.

This is a great pick. Ryans is a great player who's smart and has a great motor. He was projected as a late first round pick. It's better to take him than reach for an offensive lineman. We still have the first two picks in the third round.

Justice has way too many character issues to be drafted this high.

Way to go Texans!

I'm telling you guys, Ryans owns...

You'll see when the season starts...

Our D will be stout...

Pretty good pick. Solid player and a smart guy. But I would've prefered some help for David Carr though or a cornerback.

I love this pick. With DRob, Ryans and Williams we now have 3 young cornerstones with first round grades at all 3 defensive levels that we can build around.

D is coming together. We definitely need O-line or CB next though. I think Griffin from UT and then a OT

:) The first positive I've seen from you in a while, welcome back ;)

The thing we should, is trade up and get Justice or Marucus Mcneil, there still not off the board...if where smart and then MAYBE that was a good pick.

How do you pass up a 6'2 205 4.35 spped CB though ranked high on boards?

Escpically when you have like 7 OLBs already.

What are you his dad?

If he's ranked high on everyone's boards, why is he still there?

Anytime there is a player who going into the draft was a top 15 guy, and is still there in the early 2nd....red flags buddy.

He's a head case. no thanks.

Can he protect David Carr? If not, then we've failed miserably at what should be the # 1 remaining priority for this team.

Psst...

the Texans get a couple more picks later today...and then three more tomorrow...don't tell anybody.

Thanks, Vinny! I will take your word on this one. I've no feeling on this guy. Will be interesting what we do with the top two 3rd round picks.
