Deep Breath

And with the first pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select Reggie Bush, RB, USC..... now what?

After reading the 1000000000000th post about who we should draft, I wanna see people's opinions of what we would do in the rest of the offseason following the words written above.

With the second round pick I think we look for Davin Joseph. He is smaller and quicker then Giles, but he fitts better into the zone blocking scheme. With the first 3rd round pick we go after DeMario Minter out of Georgia (or Griffin out of UT), to help out the secondary. Depending on Buchanon, he would either play opposite D-Rob or nickle. With the second 3rd rounder we draft Tim Day, TE from Oregon. With our 4th, we draft Aaron Harris, MLB from UT.

What this basically would look like next season would be as follows:

WR- Gaff LT-Pitts LG-McKinney C-Hodge (maybe Bently) RG-Joseph RT-Wade/Weigert/Wand TE-Day WR-AJ

Carr at QB, with Bush and DD splitting carries and Bush also playing the slot, alternating with Mathis, Gaffney.
Looking at this, without Bently our line is still terrible. Maybe in a season or two when Denver's system and coaching really sinks in we will see marked improvement, however, Bently could make or break our offseason.

PS-this is why i am in the trade down camp, however, all signs from CC point to Bush.

Defensivley:

CB-Drob LE-Walker/TJ NT-Payne RE-Smith/TJ CB-Minter/Griffin/P-Buch
LOLB- Babin/Orr MLB-Wong/Harris MLB-Greenwood/Harris ROLB-Peek/Orr

SS-Earl FS-CC Brown

Unfortunately, most of our D is locked in place because of contracts, esspecially in the places we need help most. Saftey and corner are the only places we are flexable. I doubt we switch to a 4-3 this year. I think we run it more aggresevly this year, possibly implementing some 4-3 fronts. Would not be surprised if Payne reteired next season, maybe even Walker. Our biggest weakness is MLB, depending on how Wong returns, unfortunately, both he and Greenwood have large contracts.

I think that FA and coaching is going to make or break this season. Desptie the high draft picks, there are not that many areas of need we can address. This season will be the ultimate litmus test as to what was our trouble this season:talent or coaching...

Day had 12 career TDs/607yds/60 catches (not sure about catches)--David Thomas had 98 catches/1367 yds/15 Tds on a team that is among the top teams in rushing every year--is a good blocker, catches everything thrown to him, and can get open for the deep ball, and has good YAC.

Why Day over Thomas?

I would prefer Thomas over Day at TE. Thomas is good at finding the holes in the zone. Although, over both of them, I would chose Leonard Pope (I think that's his first name). Mercedes Lewis is not as big as I would like to see him, but Pope can block and jump up and catch.

I think a good corner we could draft is Richard Marshall out Fresno State. Yes I am a little bias, but he likes to get up in the grill of the WRs. He held Jarret of USC to like, 4 catches for 30+ yards. He could be a great, 3rd rounder.

I put Day there partly to avoid the UT bias (I already had us taking Griffin and Harris) and partly becasue I expect him to be the 4th TE taken after Davis, Pope and Lewis, there is less chance of him falling to us then Day...

i like david thomas the boy knows how to get open and has a lil power to him.

Other than him being a tad shorter than I would like, IMO he is a solid pick for our 2nd third round pick. Might slide to the fourth, but I think he hit radar screens at the Rose Bowl.
