David Quessenberry Out/Back In

DQ Strong what a sight for sore eyes! He's a true inspiration and whether he makes the team or not - just him lining up is nothing short of a miracle. Anything else is gravy.

I'm pulling hard for him!

I'm rooting for him. But, on one play, he got pushed into the backfield and while he was laying on the ground, it appeared like Watson banged his ankle on DQ's helmet and was slow getting up.

I'm not sure it was a lack of strength or he got off balance, but it didn't look good.

If people aren't bitching about things that don't matter - they are calling each other obscene names and being internet tough guys.

It's gotten really old really fast. It's sad what the internets has become lately.

Believe it or not the internets used to be a lot worse before there were mods. I remember those dumb chat sites. They'd have forums for pretty much anything, from politics to sports to entertainment and all of them were full of people using all kinds of course language and even threats. You couldn't have a conversation.

Glad DQ is back. He looks big. No matter how good things go for him, I don't think he'll ever be a tackle again. Guard seems to be his new calling in the NFL and hopefully his career continues for a long time. He is an inspiration and always will be.

I am ecstatic that Q is the only Olineman that has gotten pushed to ground....

No reason for the useless, sarcastic post. I guess you missed the part where I wished DQ well and also mentioned he might have been off balance.

badboy, I hope I took it correctly that you were sarcastic meaning to point to the horrendous play of all the Oline.......not to specifically point to DQ.

In reality, Earl34, an Olineman losing balance is commonly caused by lack of strength........not being able to hold up against his D opponent.

If Quessenberry doesn't make it to the final 53 I feel that the Texans org., to their credit, has handled things so that his future is assured.

If he doesn't make it here I think he'll be on somebodys team this year, either their 53 or their Practice squad. longer term time will tell.
Yes the Texans have done all anybody should ask of them and then some to help DQ make it in the NFL.
The HC the GM and of course the owner should all be commended.

Right on target Doc..it seemed bit silly to me to identify one play of a guy coming back from cancer when nothing said to qualify that other linemen had issues with no history of illness. Perhaps the entire o line needs strength conditioning as only game 1 of preseason.

I didn't see our future QB unexpectedly banging his leg on any other OL who was on the ground. That's why I made the observation. Would it still be silly if Watson is on a future injury report with a sprained ankle?

I hope we're able to keep him on the PS then.

That would be nice.......and let him be slipped into the regular roster for at least 1 play. But as I've said before, he did not show good strength in the preseason, something that because of what he has gone through may never be able to be retrieved. It has been pointed out that he has apparently built up sizable muscle this year. However, what many fail to understand is that they tend to equate big muscles with being strong and powerful............and unfortunately they are definitely not equal.

Sound reasons why he may never make it in the NFL. But it's just such a great story though.

I wonder if some poster will come complain about how Q was treated. Pretty sure BOB is about to be chastized for wanting to win after years of being skewered for not wanting to win...

That's what he really needs. They kept putting him on IR. Can't get into the shape & experience he needs to on IR. I don't know if he'll ever make the team, but this is going to help.

If his body is fundamentally broken, the. It's not what he needs it's just a wasted PS spot.

There's been a lot of time energy and resource put into a guy who wasn't a high draft pick to start with and at what point are they doing a feel good thing and not a football thing?

We passed that point when we put him on the practice squad. He's in remission now so if he's not a legit option to help this team, then he needs to put his degree to use and they should've saved that spot for someone who potentially can help us in the future.

This is not the Texans way of doing business.

Happy for DQ though

what's wrong with a feel good thing now and then if it helps both parties?

Isn't the practice squad for players that can help more down the road? If Q can't help us, then he will be replaced either put on IR or with an injury settlement depending on what they thing long term prognosis is.

I'm very happy of him that he can now say that he has made an NFL team, even if he hasn't played in an game

$375,000 to practice with NFL team over a J-O-B? I know why he is staying but not why team's putting him on PS.

And maybe it's a feel good gesture for a few days and maybe they think he will help the team down the road and a better prospect isn't there right now. I know TC is over kinda, but the real season hasn't started yet

Why are they keeping any of them around? Has Q been officially deemed worthless or something I don't know about?

My beef is that our in house medic has stated that DQ won't be able to get football strong again.

I trust him more than those at NRG.

I share Doc's opinion that it's highly unlikely that he'll ever regain the physical strength to be a decent option in this league, but hey that's just my opinion. I've been through the chemo before and know the toll it can take on your body. But I'm not the one who gets paid to make the decisions so my opinions don't matter, but that won't stop me from expressing them :)

I've also been through the chemo before, and know the drain it puts on a body. But that is not going to say it is forever or cannot be overcome.

Willpower is awesome, amazing things can be achieved. Hope is beautiful

As long as he's a Texan I'll root for him and I do hope the best for him, I'm just being a realist.. it is HIGHLY unlikely that he'll be able to come back and be consistently effective at the highest level of his sport. Hell the deck is already statistically stacked against other practice squad guys who haven't had to go through what he's been through.. So yes, if a miracle happens by all means go ahead and sign off on the movie rights, but at the end of the day it's highly unlikely to comeback from the layoff he had as well as what he had to go through during the time that he was away.

honestly, seeing as many people are praising teams and players who are donating to help the city with the damage from the hurricane, and some are criticizing the players who are not contributing to that same cause, I would also be ok with the fact that the texans decided to keep Q in the practice squad to help him with his health problems.

I'm not an expert on how these things work technically, but I'm fairly sure that "wasting" a practice squad spot will not harm the team to a huge degree, but it could have a pretty big impact on this guy's life.

being on the practice squad means he has a purpose, and (doctors feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) people with a purpose in life have a much better chance of getting through serious health problems

Yay! I'm so excited that Quessenberry made the practice squad. Those Ol guys in the 53 roster anyway need to step it up big time first before thinking practice squad it's way overdue. imo

Has anyone considered, that while he may not recover sufficient strength for a power blocking scheme, he may be better suited for zone blocking where agility and quickness and movement skills are required rather than strength. What kind of blocking scheme is better suited to Watson's skill set? This year is Savage's. But next year we will have to start shaping the offense to fit Watson.

That doesn't mean we will go to a zone scheme next year or shape the offense to fit Watson.. given the team's M.O. we'll continue to try to pound a square peg into a round hole. When has this team ever tried to scheme to utilize a player's strengths? For example look at Lamar Miller, we consistently grossly misuse him and don't use him nearly enough in the passing game.

I thought Watson was the dawn of a new era.

He is, but that doesn't mean our team will get it right and not FUBAR the situation. I hope they get it right..I'm just not holding my breath, especially with this staff and their past island of misfit QBs that they brought here/created.
