I haven't seen Carr play that much but you guys have obviously. If you could have had your choice of drafting either one of the two, who would you have drafted? To me Carr looks like when he is healthy has a bigger upside. Manning can't do anything with the talent he has on the Giants.

Well, the David Carr that was drafted was alot different than the David Carr of 2005-2006. From '02 through most of '04, Carr showed signs of progress and flashes of being a good QB. Then the wheels fell off.
Eli has had a much better career to this point, even with his faults. And are we drafting either with the same '02 team we had assembled? If so, it doesn't really matter. Should have taken Peppers.

Carr only had like 2 games with 2 or more TD's and 201+ yards combined in a win in 70 or so starts....he never carried the team ever.

I always feel when talking about Eli Manning the question you have to ask yourself is would he have been as big a prospect as he was if he didn't have the surname that he has.
In my opinion I don't think he would have, obviously people don't get drafted first overall for no reason, I just think many people looked at what Archie and Peyton could do and thought Eli was the same.
When you look at Roethlisberger and Rivers also, who are both much better Quarterbacks than Eli taken lower down.
Manning will not be a star in this league other than the fact he is Peytons younger brother in my opinion.

I'd pick Eli. He doesn't excuse away losing because he's "having fun". He actually looks like he hates losing. Novel for an NFL QB....or not.

At the time I thought Roethlisberger was going to be the better QB of any taken in the 1st round that year. It's debatable to some but I think Ben Roethlisberger makes a good case for me.

OMG, my WORST freaking nightmare. David Carr to the Giants. Dude, are you on crack? (actually, you said it all when you admitted you never saw him play, actually you did when he played the Giants last season and that was one of the best games of his career) The only thing David Carr should be doing at the Meadowlands is selling hotdogs. I have spent the last few seasons watching both (side by side). I am a Giants also. My Sundays are typically with the Texans on one TV and the Giants on the other. As bad as Eli looked on Sunday, he has NEVER looked as bad as David Carr. The guy is a cancer. At least Eli has had some games where he has looked good.
The Giants need to clean house. Both Coughlin and Gilbride needs to be gone. They need to jump on Bill Cowher as soon as the season ends. Geez, I guess I better head on over to the Giants board to see if any of this nonsense is going on over there. I will put a stop to it real fast.

Parcells is probably my all time favorite NFL coach. However, you know his history. Just as soon as he would get the Giants back to competing at a championship level he would bail. I wouldn't mind seeing him at the GM level if he would stick around. The man knows talent. Just look at the Cowboys. You think they are having the success this season due to Wade Phillips? The man inherited a Parcells team.

Maybe Carr had more upside in 2002 when he was drafted than Eli had when he was drafted in 2004, but all that upside has been blown to pieces. Carr is not a quality NFL QB. I don't think he's a quality backup or even a quality 3rd stringer if there is one. Eli has looked like at least an average, sometimes an above average, QB the last few years. Carr can't even reach "average" when he's dreaming of being QB.

Agreed. At least Eli Manning throws the ball past the line of scrimmage and usually doesn't go many weeks without throwing a TD pass (I believe Carr holds a record of 10 weeks). Carr did have the mind, or really even the mechanics to be a serious NFL quarterback. Manning just needs to make better decisions, Carr is a genuinely bad QB.

Eli's biggest problem is his last name, the guy can't obviously live up to the pressure of being Peyton (and let's get real here.....who could). He needs to go to court and change his last name, because he's never going to be Payton and the whole reason why the Giants traded up is because they wanted "Manning" (if you know what I mean...Payton)
Eli would of been better off sucking up his tears and going to SD, because honestly I think he's better than Rivers (yeah I said that.....Rivers side throw is going to do him in like Carr). Eli needs a offensive head coach that can calm him down and tell him to forget about trying to live up to the expectations of his brother......he's never going to be that (honestly who the hell could?) , but if you surround him with a good running game and defense, he'll make plays.......he's not near as bad as David Carr.......trust me on that.

LOL, look what I posted. I think this thread was created right after the Giants got embarrassed by the Viking 41-17 in November. After that loss I thought they were heading for another implosion. I never did get on the Eli sucks bandwagon however I was totally on the Coughlin's got to go bandwagon. Unfortunately I think the Giants are going to lose their best coach, Steve Spagnuolo. His scheme worked to perfection last night.

Go even further back. I've been on the Eli/Giants jock since 2004. He showed flashes of greatness even in his horrific rookie year. It was clear he was going to be better than Roethlisberger, who was too successful for his own good.

QB's are very hard to evaluate coming into the NFL, think the Texans felt more comfortable taking Schaub because he had some experience & showed he belonged. never say never but I would shy away from taking a 1st rd. QB regardless the need or ability unless he was a Manning or Elway then see what offers you get, finally if you have to take one..........

Moon held the dubious title of "Most Sacked QB" while Carr was still in Jr. High. All he did was lead the Oilers to their best ever seasons (only to lose in the playoffs); the best being 13-3 (then Butthead Bud broke up the team because they didn't make the Super Bowl.
Another example is Troy Aikman. Remember his first two seasons. I didn't think the kid would survive. All he did was go on to win 3 Super Bowls.
Then there's Jim Plunkett.... given up for dead in New England only to resurface in Oakland and win a Super Bowl.
...you get my meaning. Like you said, it ain't how many times you get knocked down. Its whether you have the 'nads to keep getting back up and eventually start to do the knocking down yourself.
I could be wrong but I don't see that much gumption in Carr. I see "quitter".

Actually, the Oilers best seasons were when they made it to the AFC Championship games two years in a row. Obviously, they lost to the mighty Steelers, but Moon could never get them that far during the R&S era. (Plus, let's not forget he was the QB for the game-we-do-not-mention.)
And regular season wins don't really matter for much at the end of the day. Just ask the Patriots right now.

I disagree. If you go to the superbowl that early in your career, maybe you get the idea that what you're doing is good enough. If you struggle, obviously you've got to get better.
While I also disagree with the premise, I think that it has some merits, and it certainly makes sense.

Eli. I was really hoping we could somehow swing Eli in 2004. I wanted some sort of Carr + draft pick type of trade. Eli could read an NFL defense at the age of 16 better than Carr could when he was drafted. (not intended to be funny)
Eli is going to be a good QB, and finally now the critics are off his back. The only thing about his last name that has anything to do with him being good is growing up in the NFL-QB mentality his entire life. Most kids growing up were taught 'how' to throw the football, how to use your feet, etc. Eli was taugh how to see what the defense is going to do, what is the best way to attack this defense, etc. Completely different mentality.
It's not him being a little manning, it's him being coached by a Manning for 27 years.
I want to see Eli end up with more rings than his brother at the end of the day.
