Dave Campo the new Jaguars Assistant Coach?

By BART HUBBUCH, The Times-Union

The Jaguars are expected to hire former Dallas Cowboys coach Dave Campo as an assistant coach, multiple league sources said Tuesday night.

Campo was defensive coordinator for Cleveland the past two seasons. He was an assistant with Dallas when Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio played linebacker for the Cowboys from 1989-91.

The Jaguars' position has been vacant since assistant head coach and assistant defensive backs coach Steve Shafer was dismissed two weeks ago.

Campo... for defense? That's taking a step back ain't it for the Jags since Cleveland's been about middle of tha pack the past two years?

Although it is interesting that Campo gets a couple of lines of type while Linehan gets the rest of the article. :heh:

yeah, i bet the logic will be something along the lines of

if you take the 5 wins he had a year with the cowboys and add it to the wins we had from this year... we might be as good as pittsburgh.

Actually Dave Campo is one of those that is a good coordinator and was not a good fit as a head coach. There are quite a few of them in the NFL. He'll do fine.

I just remember his little temper tantrum during the Dallas-Houston game when he didn't agree with a call or something like that. It's still funny whenever I think about it.

I have a memory about Campo also. Last game of the season when he was defensive coordinator for the browns, the Texans had just 102 net passing yards and the Browns sacked QB David Carr six times. Still funny whenever I think about it.

I'm glad Campo got a assistant coaching job with the Jags. He's a great defensive coordinator but isnt quite cut out for head coaching. He'll do great in Jacksonville.

Campo has SB rings from his time as defensive coordinator of the Cowboys. He sucked as a head coach, but Parcells himself hasn't done much better with the boys. Campo did ok with the brownies D, given the garbage talent he had to work with (Courtney Brown? Gerard Warren? McCutcheon and Henry as starting CBs? Ugh).
