Dan Reeves

Resident Grouch
When Reeves was brought in it was pretty much stated that he was here to critique' the organization and make suggestions to Mr McNair about 'what went wrong and why did it happen' (my understanding).

I was under the impression at the time that it was a short term thing?

Was I wrong to believe this?

Will he be here to help Cass through the draft?
Will he be here very long after the draft?
Is Mr McNair just reluctant to tell him thanks and see you later?
Will he get Cass's job.

So many questions.

Your guesses?

:coffee:

I haven't heard anything about him still being under contract with McNair for anything. Can someone with better info confirm that?

McNair said that there was a good chance that his relationship with the Texans would extend well beyond the 6 week contract.

Reeves is in his 70s, and as he told John McClain at the news conference, he's facing two knee replacements. He doesn't want Casserly's job, or any GM job, for that matter.

McNair's keeping him around to sign off on the draft picks, and then, it's back to his show on Sirius Radio.

Please don't use Casserly and 'extend' in the same sentence. It sounds like he may stay awhile longer and that ain't good.
:)

I'd like to rid of casserly though...Is there any replacements that would be a good addition that we could seriously look at?

Ok, so let's play this little game.

Would you want Reeves to be the GM, if he in fact told Bob McNair that his current GM is not the problem?

(Which would seem to be the case, BTW)

:hmmm:

At this point, I don't think Casserly was the problem, unless you count him not ignoring Caper's (and his staff's) bad requests, which technically should be counted. A GM is supposed to know when to do what's best and tell the coaches no, if necessary; but, now Casserly is being told to let Kubiak make important decisions, so it's going to come down to Kubiak. Either way, Capers is gone. :)

I think the writers of 24 modeled the current President on the show after Casserly.

I think Reeves will be done after the draft with a slim chance of staying through training camp. I see him mainly as a coach to McNair, helping him evaluating the team and the innerworkings of the league.

I remember a blurb about a 6 week tenure for Reeve's consultation services. But, I'd think Mr. McNair would want him around a bit longer with all the major decisions that are being made and the amount of work required to overhaul this team.

Consulting work is just offering advice to the one that hired you, the owner in this case. So it's not a high pressure job or even one that gives much publicity, so it's no big deal if Mr. McNair keeps him around for however long he wants to hear Reeves' professional opinions. I would be shocked if Dan ended up being a GM for any team at this point. He's got a pretty good job just doing what he does now.

I kind of figured Reeves would be around longer than that 6 week contract. It's of no suprise to me. I could have sworn that Cass was going to be removed as GM, and Reeves would take over, but maybe he'll stick around as a consultant.

When he was initially hired, the contract was for 6 weeks. However, McNair also said at the time that Reeves might be with the team in some capacity even after that initial period.
