Dan Reeves Theory

Mr. White

Retired OLine Coach
Anyone else out there thinking maybe Reeves is going to stick around till Casserley's contract is up and then replace him? I think I've heard that CC has one more year left....

I'm trying to catch up with this Reeves business, but your scenario makes sense. If fact, I wouldn't be shocked if Casserly steps down (for a league job?) sometime between the Kubiak hiring and the draft. That way, the Kubiak selection doesn't look like a bag job by Reeves to get his guy and subvert the Rooney rule. How many candidates would come through Reliant knowing that GM Reeves is giving the job to his boy Gary? I think you're on to something here.

Just something to chew on. The vibe I'm getting from his interviews is that he isn't going anywhere anytime soon. It kinda seems like Bob kept Charley around so he could help the franchise transition to a new GM.

Nope. I think Reeves is going to be a professional NFL consultant, much like Bill Walsh or Ron Fox.

Even a GM of a pro sports team can be mighty stressful, and I'm not sure if he wants to sacrifice any more of his health for the cause.

My guess is he's gone like the wind once we hire our new HC. Just a hunch, though, because anything can happen.

I think CC will be gone by April, and Dan will be the new GM, CC has damaged this team for four years.

Dan Reeves is a control freak. He knows his X and Os and how to win football games. A hard headed no nonsense coach who had trouble relating and managing relationships. Thats why he was asked to leave Denver, New York and eventually what did him in in Atlanta. For every good draft that he had he had 2 or 3 bad ones. If he becomes GM for Houston I can't help but think that there will be friction between him and the head coach. That seems to be his nature, he will want to be hands on, things his way and interfere with the head coach. I don't think he knows any other way. He brought Mike Vick to Atlanta but he also traded a next years first for a 2nd RD TE. (Reggie Kelly, the next years pick was #5)
