Cowboys demanding accountability by taking players off the field; three starters have been replaced

The Cowboys have not been afraid to make lineup changes this season in an effort to but the best players on the field and demand accountability.

It started in the preseason when Cowboys coach Jason Garrett benched running back DeMarco Murray for a half after a fumble. The first four games have seen three difference players replaced in the starting lineup _ cornerback Morris Claiborne by Orlando Scandrick, safety Will Allen by J.J. Wilcox and guard Mackenzy Bernadeau by Brian Waters.

And last Sunday against the Chargers, linebacker Bruce Carter was benched in the second half after giving up two touchdown passes in pass coverage and losing confidence.

“I think we’ve always strived to make everybody feel accountable for what they’re doing around here and oftentimes competition allows you to do that better as a football coach and as a football staff,” Garrett said. “You look at the guys you have available to you and you make your best decision for your football team. And if you have guys who are competing for a spot and you can put the next guy in and he can be as good and maybe better than the guy who’s playing right now, you are more willing and able to do that. Hopefully the competition will bring out the best in both of those players who are competing for that spot and they’ll get better and you’ll consequently get better as a team.”

I know there are many people here who believe this is the way to do business. Let's see how it works for the Cowboys.

If my Boys are about accountability how about firing Garrett and getting someone in who can make in game adjustments and not get out coached at every turn. The guy's time management is abysmal. He basically has a "process" that he refuses to change during games. He still has some say in the offense and he and Callahan abandon the run 90% of the time leaving it in Romo's hands. The 56 yard FG attempt this last game was a horrible call. The guy is smart and nice but that doesn't equal smart as a coach. I've never been a Kubiak fan but I have more faith in him than Garrett. At least Kubes specializes in one area. Garrett hasn't shown the ability to do well in any one thing yet.

BTW, I hope Claiborne has some gradual improvement like Kareem because he is a horrible pick at this point. They gave up picks to move up and get him and he has not adjusted well. I've heard excuses about him not being in man to man, etc but overall he is looking really bad.

I don't know enough about the Cowboys to comment much, nor do I care enough to learn, but it would appear that at least Demarco Murray responded well to the benching.

Maybe drafting functionally retarded people isn't the best way to build a good secondary.
