Stephen Jones: Cowboys ‘not concerned’ about Ratliff’s health after hamstring injury

Posted by Mike Wilkening on July 21, 2013, 4:21 PM EDT

Though Cowboys defensive tackle Jay Ratliff sustained a hamstring injury at the outset of training camp, club director of player personnel Stephen Jones indicated Ratliff’s health is not a major worry, the club’s website reported Sunday.

“He finished the conditioning test, so he’s working through some things, and we’ll handle that. We’re not concerned,” Jones said Sunday, per DallasCowboys.com.

Ratliff is slated to undergo an MRI on his injured hamstring, head coach Jason Garrett said Sunday, per the team website.

The "kiss of death" wording. Completing a conditioning test means nothing when dealing with a hamstring injury.........especially with last year's history of other unresolved lower limb maladies, which could continue to set him up with compensatory injuries .:kitten:

Any surprise here?

Jerruh and Stephen care bout asses in the seats not winning, not the health and well
being of the players them selves or even the coaches just the cash they rake in!!!

I can't agree. True it is important to have asses in the seats as with any of the multi-million to billion dollar operations. However, I believe that owners including Jerry/Stephen do care about the players and coaches on the teams. It can't be business as usually when one or more of your key player's are out for extended games or all of the season.

As I recall back when Redskins were butting heads with Albert Haynesworth, their conditioning test wasn't all that tough.

Now Anthony Spencer is reported to have had a flare of a bone bruise of his knee he sustained in June................the Boys again say they are not worried...............Dom Davis?..........a little .microfracture surgery?............a little retirement?..................

Doc, I know you don't know specifics but what is a "bone bruise"? Is that kinda like a Chester Pitts kinda thing?

We all know how that worked out.

The term bone bruise is a misnomer and makes the injury seem less serious than it is. A so-called bone bruise is actually a fracturing of the inner layer of bone.

ANATOMY OF THE KNEE:

KNEE%20JOINT%20LABELED%20SMALL.jpg

Bones are composed of 2 different types of bony tissue, the compact (cortical) bone and the cancellous (spongy) bone. The compact bone is the outer layer of bone and is highly organized, solid, and extremely strong. When you injure this layer of the bone, it is referred to as a stress or overt fracture. The cancellous bone is the innermost layer of bone. (You may better recognize this layer when it is referred to as the "marrow.") Unlike the outer layer of bone, it is not arranged in concentric layers, but in plates (called trabeculae) which form an irregular meshwork that is neither as organized nor as strong as the outer bone. An injury to this area of the bone represents very small fractures to the trabeculae in the meshwork of the bone and may be referred to as a bone bruise.
This type of injury can be a result of repetitive trauma or stress where the inside of the bone is damaged, resulting in bleeding into the damaged area. It can also happen as a result of acute trauma, where forces are not strong enough to fracture the outer bone, but are strong enough to fracture the inner layer of bone.

In diagnosing this condition, we normally must have a "high suspicion" gained from a combination of patient history and physical examination. This "high suspicion" is very important, since an MRI must be obtained in order to diagnose a fracture to the inner layer of bone. Iinjuries to the inner bone will not be evident on xray or CT scan.

Bracing or other immobilization of the area to allow it time to heal and to protect it from additional injury that can be caused by simply bearing weight on the injured area is a must. Activities also need to be restricted during this healing period, particularly sports play, which can result in additional acute trauma, causing greater injury and/or prolonging the healing time. It is important to understand that recovery can often take several months because the inner layer of bone takes longer to heal than the outer bone.

I can't recall Pitts having a bone bruise. Duane Brown had what the Texans called a minor "bone bruise" during the preseason of 2012, and he missed a week. But I seriously doubt that the correct diagnosis was made in that only "x-rays" were obtained.:

Texans head coach Gary Kubiak is no longer holding his breath after left tackle Duane Brown suffered a lower left leg injury during Wednesday's practice. Brown took a few more reps before bowing out and having his left ankle iced. Lucky for the Texans, Brown's injury turned out to be only a bone bruise. "I don't expect to be out too long," Brown told reporters, adding that he is day to day. "It's extremely scary. Once I got the X-rays and everything came out negative, I was extremely relieved." Kubiak said Brown's leg was rolled up on during practice. "We are lucky. ... He'll probably miss a couple days. ... He's an important piece to the puzzle," Kubiak said. Earlier in the day, before the X-rays, Kubiak said the team was holding their breath on Brown's injury.

If they cared they'd have stepped out of the way by now and hired a
general manager who is competent. but the reality is? they haven't
and fans have not showed that they are back boned enough to say
that as long as he "stocks" the "talent" THEY won't be attending
games

instead what they do is sell out home games and hope when there is
no hope! so why should Jerruh do anything to change the course of
the team when fans continue to give him what he wants?

He'll continue to stock the shelves with what he wants and in return
fans will sit in his seats year in and year out, buy his concessions and
team merchandise

And so Jerruh does not care

I wonder how many opposing fans attend each game just to watch the Cowboys lose? Just like wrestling fans who come strickly to seen the "villain" defeated. Gotta feel that Jerry the barker Showman counts on that every game to bolster his purse any way he can.........even by those that cannot stand the guts of his team or him.

I find it hard to believe that someone can continue to be a "Villain" when according to so
many they have been irrelevant since 1996. Can't hate what is no longer there am I right?

which leaves us the # of fans (opposing) who are buying tickets either through the
Cowboys website or at the box office? which could be in the thousands or could be
less..

I guess we will never get the real actual numbers but it really has no bearing on the
fact that it's more about Jerruh's own fans selling out then it is about opposing fans
coming to see their team play and win

I understand the opposing teams fans being there to root for their team and have met some really cool fans. My guess the number that would pay ticket cost, parking, food, drink and trinkets would be quite small. But anyone having that kind of money to spend to see the "villain" defeated, I say go for it.

I do get amused seeing the opposing fans in the team shop with their shopping list. :)

Now there is something we can agree upon Star,

better to see them piss away their hard earned money, then see our fans pissing it
away
