Could Faggins Grow Into Glenn's Replacement?

Everybody has been talking about how in this offseason we better find a replacement for Aaron Glenn. Why so fast? This guy is what 32? And still looks like he has 3 more seasons in him.

One of our options in the draft is to draft a CB at #13......I don't think that's such a wise move. Glenn is not going to be in a wheelchair by the beginning of next season, the guy can still play and there is more pressing needs.

Besides if we want to find a replacement for Glenn, why not look at our own team. Demarcus Faggins has gotten better every year, and really came on in the middle of the season really playing great in the nickel and on special teams. He is a physical corner just like Glenn and Robinson, is young, I think 25, has great speed, size, tackling ablilty, I mean why not? Why can't this guy play the nickel until Glenn needs to step back a little and let this guy play?

I think if we are looking for Glenn's replacement then this guy is it. We shouldn't be worried about drafting Rolle at #13 or anything like that, we got this problem sovled in my mind. What do you guys think?

No... Faggins doesnt have the 'Gift' of playing CB. He is ok as a backup, but certainly not a starter, nor looks like he can be.

Im with ya on that Honkey Tonk.. Personally ive seen nothing that leads me to beleive that Faggins could not be a starting CB for us eventually. He may not be the next coming of champ bailey.. but he is more than good enough to start IMO.

I would not be against getting a CB at #13 though.. not necessarily as "the future replacement for Glenn" .. but just as someone to compete with Faggins and Dunta as a starting CB, and to keep our secondary filled with young talent. And if whoever we drafted turned out to be really good, like Dunta, then Faggins could make very good trade bait in the future (assuming we can find someone who would actually trade us for a player that wasnt considered "one of the best in the league".. ya know that really bothers me about the NFL.. no one trades players for players.. and you rarely even see Players for Draft picks.. maybe once a year. They need to do something to make player trades work. Its always fun when your team makes a good player trade).

I'm not sure Faggins has the speed to be a starting CB. And in any case, in this division we need more than 2 good CBs. I also don't think Glenn has 3 more seasons in him, unless he moves to a nickel role.

Faggins might be adequate as a starter if we get a pass rush.

Basically...If Faggins were a starter, I believe he would be the Jay Foreman of the secondary...A guy that we would put out there because there was nobody better on the team, not because he is just so awesome that he needs to start, JMO...

I agree about that. An average at best starter but frontline reserve. He would be adequate but as long as our pass rush is this bad and we're in such a dangerous division, I think he would be exposed. I'd much rather have him stay in the capacity he's in right now and have another stellar man-cover CB to play opposite Robinson.

we play a zone heavy defense. Speed is important.. but I honestly think Faggins could do just fine in our system.. I think he is fast enough.

And Dunta is more of a cover corner than a man corner as well.

Yes Faggins could be a replacement for Glenn. He has got decent speed, breaks well on the ball, good hands and an overall understanding of the defense. This means no learning curve when it is time for him to step up to that position. I also like his attitude. To me he seems aggresive and hungry. lets face it shutdown corners dont grow on trees. otherwise everyone would have one.

No Glenn isnt going anywhere to soon. so that is a bonus for Faggins being able to sit back and learn from one of the best in the game.

However this might be the last season that Glenn out right owns that starting position before having to compete in training camp.

we shouldnt draft rolle at 13. I dont think they will draft that high for another nickle back. look for us to either draft another LB or trade down get extra draft picks and take a nose tackle. I wouldnt be overly suprised to see us trade completely out of the first round. I dont see this as being a very exciting draft. what we need are D-line. a big run stopper for the middle and start looking for walkers replacement. also we need younger quicker middle linebackers and can we get a pass rusher? Please?

No possible way. Faggins is a nickle and dime CB. Free Agent lockdown corner on the opposite side of Robinson!!! :bouncey:

faggins deserves to be on the field in dime packages and on special teams. if he ever obtains a starting role we're in serious trouble.

Ive seen no one mention anything about Faggins that isnt fixable through practice. Accept for speed and I honestly dont think he is lacking in that departement.

Every starting CB doesnt have to be a first round selection, or a pro bowler from FA.

Thats why I brought this up. He didn't play much of a lick in our expansion season, but as every game and season has progressed he has seen more of the playing feild and has shown he deserves to. If Glenn starts the next two seasons, that just two more seasons for Faggins to learn and get better.

I don't think picking a corner at #13 is right for us. I mean Glenn will start next season, I don't care who you bring in here. This draft is full of corners, and a very good corner will be avaiable in the 2nd round. That corner and sit next season, learn, and then play the year after. Somebody like Corey Webster, a great shut-down corner.

The Texans have more pressing problems than corner this offseason. That first round pick really needs to be the best linebacker or defensive lineman available. However, in order to win this division the Texans will need to draft a corner pretty much every year to stay competitive with Indy.

I see the Texans using a pick somewhere in rounds 2-4 for a corner that can compete with Wright and Faggins for a spot in the nickle or dime package.

As for the original question in the post, I think Faggins is a quality backup but would not be a good enough starter in this defensive scheme. Ideally, Capers want to have two corners who can play on an island, allowing the safeties to concentrate on the run on first down and forcing the offense into second-and-long and third-and-long situations.

At the start of this year I would have said no way, however I personally feel Faggins played pretty well at the end. His problem was always giving too much cushion and therefore his break was ALWAYS late. He was a very large reason we were giving up third and longs. He started to play more physical and started getting deflections instead of tackles. If he continues to develope he may surprise some people. He is kind of small and I don't know how he might do against some of the bigger receivers on a regular basis.
