Corey Simon now a free agent

So anybody have any ideas on who is going to make an offer to him? Whoever gets this guy has an all-pro defensive tackle..

I'd sure like to see the Texans get in on the bidding. Adding Simon, along with the addition of TJ, would make our #1 pick next year, a no brainer (OT).

He'd be an awesome addition to the team. I'd like to see it happen but I don't think it will. then again I never thought they would make a run at Orlando Pace but they were serious about that.

We need some help on the line and he's the kind of free agent I think is worth spending the bucks on.

Yes , he would be someone to consider adding to the roster .... BUT considering the cost cutting moves the Texans made during this pre-season ... The release of Sharper , Glenn and Foreman along with the drafting and subsequent signing of T.Johnson i doubt they Texans will make him an offer . :dangit:
Its my understanding from that article that he wasnt happy w/ the franchise tag of aprox $5.1 and probably wants a long term deal of that magnitude . Anyone know the Texans current cap situation ?

From what I've read (2nd hand hearsay) he's said to be more suited to a one-gap 4-3 scheme and may or may not work well in a 3-4. Sort of like Sapp when he went to Oakland. But, I don't really know anything.

I've been thinking about this and let say we do sign him. Hypothetical now...But then wouldn't we have the personnel for a 4-3 scheme? We have a ton of guys that are former DE now playing OLB. DT's could be Walker/Payne/TJ/Simon. LB's could be Wong/Greenwood/Babin. Or we could even switch between 3-4 and the 4-3. Just an idea.

I'm sure that we could switch between a 4-3 and a 3-4, but it seems some of our players have enough trouble learning one defense.

Lack of good depth on the D-line is a concern, and now that the Eagles released Simon.. Is he worth the chance? He was in the league only 5 years, so he can fit with the young players. He has 32 sacks in his five years with the Eagls. Just a thought.

That would be awesome, but I think money will be the factor here. From what I understand he will want 5-7 mill a year, if not more... and a long-term deal.

Hmm.. where would we play him though?

Walker Payne and Smith have the starting positions on the line. Simon is a DT.. so we would be smart to play him at NT to keep him on the inside where he has been most productive.

hes only 293 pounds.. somewhat small for a 3-4 NT..but not too bad.

But are we going to bench Payne to play him? or are we going to sign Simon to a big contract to play him behind Payne?

I wouldnt be AGAINST getting him.. but it just seems like bad timing. We get him now.. and he is gonna have to play second string for us. It would be nice to have him a year or two from now (even though he will be 28-29 years old) cause Johnson, Simon, Smith would be a nice Dline

He'd play DE in the 3-4 if we were to sign him. I'd say sign him, he's been productive and Walker isn't getting any younger. I know we drafted Johnson to eventually replace Walker, but imagine our dline if we had Walker, Payne, Smith, Simon, and Johnson rotating in. That's a scary Dline.

One of the guys on nfl live said the teams making the biggest push for him are the bengals, ravens and the G-men.

One thing to remember about this guy is that he's all about the money. That's why the Eagles let him go. I think the Texans would only get him if he was willing to sign for a short-term deal for decent money and not trying to use them to get a better offer from another team like Pace did.

Simon has already turned down offers from Cincy and Baltimore, He is looking for $16mil in SB and about $6mil a year. He has already missed TC and last year, if you look at his stats, it took until mid-season for him to get in shape! He should have signed the tender.

personally i think he'll go to the giants so he can stick it to the eagles twice a year

You don't really think that Simon would sign with the sorry *** Giants and have the team that threw him away kick his *** twice a year for the length of his contract, do you now? Who knows, maybe they will overpay him! If he cared about winning instead of the money he would have signed with the Eagles! If you don't believe me ask two Eagles, H. Douglas and J Trotter!

It seems like Denver is always in the mix to pick up defensive linemen. If Simon had played for the Browns it would be a lock.
