Coon's 1st Mock.

coon

Waterboy
It's much tougher than I thought it would be to sort out weaknesses for this team. Anyway here is my first mock of the year. I know some don't like McCarron but I do so be gentle.

Rd. 1: Taylor Lewan OT Michigan

Rd. 2: A.J. McCarron OB Alabama:
I would take McCarron with the first rounder if needed as I think he will be the best Qb in this draft. I know I’m in the minority there though. Just expect to see his name in all my mocks.

Rd. 3: Jackson Jeffcoat DE/OLB Texas: I have seen him play a few times and I think he is athletic enough for the transition. I would like to know what any die hard longhorn fans think about that.

Rd. 4: Shayne Skov ILB Stanford

Rd. 5: Carrington Byndom CB Texas

Rd. 6 Michael Dyer RB Louisville

Rd 7. Chris Whaley DT Texas

I like your first 4 but see Byndom more as a safety and would hesitate for that. Most expected him to step up after 2012 but not happening. Also, Skov is more of an in the box, shut the run with minimal skills in coverage. I am not necessarily against that as I have mocked Andrew Jackson in past but would prefer an ILB that can do both; see my mock with Smallwood in second. Skov really has cranked it up this season & hopefully has learned to stay away from "substances". Considered extremely intelligent kid.

As of today, McCarron can be had at our third unless you think he will rise a complete round? I would not argue that but asking your thoughts.

I do think A.J. will rise into the second round. He gets characterized as strictly a game manager that benefits from the talent around him and an elite running game, despite the fact that in a majority of the big games he is in they put it on him. They have blown people out of the building in the last 2 national championships with him making NFL throws and smartly pushing the ball down the field. I think he is more physically talented then he is getting credit for and it will show when he tests.

Where do you have us picking in this mock? I ask because I no longer see Lewan as a top 10 pick. He hasn't even played at an all-conference level this year, much less all-american.

1-luv this pick
2-dont like this pick. depending on how keenum does the rest of the way, should be used on a ilb or a cb(to cut jjo) or a safety.
3-dont think he lasts this long
----dont know who the rest of these guys are, but i like the positions drafted
(is this the dyer from auburn?) is he still as good as he was?

I still think we finish around 8-8 and pick somewhere in the 12-16 range. I agree that he has been a bit off, but i think he is the third tackle off the board in the mid first.

If Keenum continues to set the world on fire, I would consider taking a Qb later. I have been high on McCarron for awhile, even predicting he would fall below all the atheletic qb's this year. In the NFL its what you have above the shoulders that sets you apart, and i think McCarron has it to go with size and an NFL arm.

That is the Dyer from Auburn and all reports coming out of Louisville say he has matured, talent was never his obstacle.
