Contingent Trade w/ Arizona

If Peterson is there at 5, can Arizona pick him and agree to trade him to us, contingent on Player X being there?

I seem to recall reading somewhere that teams can trade picks, but cannot trade players that are picked. Is that still the case after the recent rulings?

So, in my example, let's say Arizona agrees to trade Peterson to us, if Watt or Jordan are there at 11. Let's assume Jordan is there.

Can the parties complete the player trade?

That is a good question, but I don't think anyone knows at this point during the whole "lockout limbo" situation. My guess would be no though.

Interesting question. San Diego was the team that selected Eli Manning and then they traded him to New York... it wasn't New York trading up to #1 for him. For some reason I kind of think I read they changed some of the rules after that.

So they may not be able to but for different reasons than the "lockout = no player trades". These rookies aren't under any contract and won't be so they should not be under the exact same rules as current players. There could be a clause still though saying no actual draft players can be traded.

very interest. Longwinded post of mine that pretty much ends where it started: who knows!? LOL

From what I read it is still picks only and players are not to be included. I'm thinking this includes players picked.

NFL network just announced trades cannot involve players tonight (1st rd.) now this may be changed for tomorrow, my guess most likely Saturday (4th-7th rd).
