Connor Cook

There's still that messy issue of Cook not being able to hit the broadside of a barn and getting wonky eyes after his first read.

Which are strange things to ignore given how much you like Cook and knowing you must have seen a good deal of his play.

I just don't see it that way. I see way more prime time NFL throws than anything else when I watch Cook. I go back & look at his poor completion stats & they just don't line up with what I'm seeing. I haven't taken the time to try to reconcile it, because I'm sold. Watching him play the game, I have no doubt he can lead my team where I want to go.

I do get that you're seeing it how you want to see it.

And of course you have every right to do so, so ok.

The draft is less than three weeks away and there is the usual, persistent buzz about the perceived top two quarterbacks available: Carson Wentz and Jared Goff. There is also intrigue surrounding 6-foot-7 Paxton Lynch and much public hand-wringing over the swoon of Christian Hackenberg. But when it comes to Connor Cook, who by many accounts is the most tested and pro-ready quarterback in this draft, there's nearly complete silence, from the scouring community and media.

Hmm.

In fact, until former Super Bowl-winning head coach and noted quarterback guru Jon Gruden began openly gushing about Cook on ESPN last week, and exclaiming out loud what some scouts and execs had been whispering about the quarterback for quite some time, it was difficult to find much being said or reported about the former Michigan State star anywhere outside of East Lansing. Seemed a little fishy to me. And after spending a week sniffing around on the situation, and speaking with numerous accomplished evaluators who don't have a dog in this fight (i.e. they are not going to be taking a quarterback on the first two days of this draft), I am more convinced than ever that Cook is going to be selected higher than many would want you to believe.

While it is nice to know there are those out there that think like me (often referred to as dumbasses) I don't really care where Connor Cook is drafted. Since we're not in the market anymore, that is.

But thanks for sharing

You wouldn't take him in the 3rd?

hmmm Idk how to quote tweets, but Eric Galko @optimumscouting just tweeted

"After threatening call from Connor Cook's mom (story for another day),I've eased take. But dislike from teammates/MSU ppl/agents/NFL is real"

If his mom really did do that thats a huge red flag for me, sorry but parents pass both good and bad qualities to their kids, and wasnt a huge negative about RG3 his parents over involvment?

I've dealt with my fair share of this on the high school level and I barely tolerate it. I can't imagine a NFL coach tolerating it.

But the issue isn't the mom. The issue is how Cook handles it. That's a huge maturity risk. He should be a grown man by now.

which worries me because if his mom is still doing it now, that leads me to believe this isnt the first time she has done something like this whether throughout college and high school, and he hasnt put a stop on it.

That's exactly the potential problem.

Now, if she's just a crazy b*tch and he's tried to stop this but just can't control her then I don't fault him for it, as long as he handles the business between him and the team as a professional.

But if he just lets his mommy handle all his dirty business because he isn't man enough then there is a real problem.

Pure speculation on my part but my guess is any teams interested in Cook did their due diligence and had folks interview his teammates on why Cook was not voted a Captain. If so, based on Cook's drop in the draft the answers received were not kind to Cook's draft health.
