Complete Seven Round Mock Draft

NFLRoughDraft

Practice Squad
Hi Guys,

We've just completed a full sevn round mock draft over at NFLRoughDraft.com. I'd be interested in your input.

Last year, you guys provided me with some excellent insight. We can research the Texans as much as we want, but we feel there is a ton of value in the insight of the team's hardcore fans so check it out if you get a chance. Thank you!!

Sorry guys, I didn't mean for this to be spam. I received some great insight from this forum last year. You can feel free to delete the post if you'd like.

I just looked at it and think it was pretty accurately. A few things though:

1. Dunta doesn't have a problem staying healthy. In his career, he's only had one injury that has kept him off the field. He had his hamstring and ACL repaired from the injury and should be 100% now. That being said, he turned down a very generous contract extension so he may be gone after this season anyway, so a CB like A.Smith does make some sense.

2. Behind Slaton, we don't have anyone that belongs on an active NFL roster. I'm pretty sure that the Texans will come out of the draft with 2 RBs... I think Rashod Jennings does make sense for them in round 3.

3. They surely will also be drafting a C/G. The Texans have zero depth behind their starters and will want to groom another guy while AGibbs is still on the staff.

Other than that, your mock makes a lot of sense. I would note that I think it is very likely that the Texans trade down in the 1st round, even if they don't get a great deal.

for the board, here are the 1st 5 rounds:
Cushing
Alphonso Smith
Rashod Jennings
M. Hamlin
Massaquoa
Terrance Taylor

No it's fine, obviously you're not a regular around here......the thread most likely won't be deleted, it'll just be moved to the "mock draft" forum.

Sorry for jumping on you for "spamming"....we just get that kinda stuff around here.

I would be happy if that is how it went down.

Brian Cushing - If we don't trade down, I'm hoping him or Malcolm Jenkins are available at #15.
Alphonso Smith - He is a true playmaker at corner, but his size scares me a little...
Rashad Jennings - I've been calling for the Texans to draft him for MONTHS now, I think he is the perfect complement to Slaton in this draft. (I hope we go for Peyton Hillis too though)

This is why I see Fred Bennett as such an important cog in the defense. You don't want an entire secondary filled with CBs that are 6'2"... otherwise, what the heck are you going to do when you'r staring at Steve Smith. That being said, having one or two guys that can physically matchup with the taller WRs is a valuable commodity.

so much for great insight I suppose  apologize for the un-Texan response to all your hard work. so what if we have a draft forum, ITS FREAKEN DRAFT TIME PEOPLE, maybe a few more should pay attention, then again maybe not.

in response to the one intelligent post I would hope both parties come to their senses don't let pride get in the way of better judgement. what Dunta brings to the table is more than playmaking ability in coverage & run support its leadership. the mental side of his game is unmatched on this team, yes he was offered a legit contract but the Texans can do better & Dunta would serve himself well to sit back down @ the table & finish what he came here to do in the first place & thats lead the Texans to the Super Bowl.

I still rate CB right up there just based off value of position & availabilty with Malcolm Jenkins (#14) & Vontae Davis (#22) leading the pack. Also don't believe the Texans are going to use their 1st pick on a LB. They have aggressively gone out in free agency & been buyers of players (Cato June/Buster Davis) to add depth to go along with starters Diles, DeMeco & Adibi + back-ups for a total of 8 roster spots.

So I would take Cushing off the Texans board. You also have two premier OT's hovering around the 15th pick. I wonder if the Texans might be interested in Andre Smith (#16) to play RT & kick Winston inside to RG. That would be an awfully good group with depth to back-up just have to add Unger (#48) who you have going two picks later to Denver & I would say have potential to be best OL in the NFL. Can't imagine Gibbs doing that but lets just say some kind of swain song remains as retirement beckons after this upcoming season.

I would add more comments but this is the main board so I won't get to technical, at least until its moved to the draft forum. Really good job :texflag:

Not sure about the exact players avaliable, but this draft projection does pretty much what I'd want the Texans to do. Draft defense in the 1st and 2nd rounds, and pick up a good RB to help Slaton out in the 3rd.

I'd much rather have A Smith than Cushing. And if the Texans have a shot at Unger in the 2nd and pass him up I'll be more than furious. We've addressed corner pretty solidly IMO with Reeves, Dunta, Bennett, Molden and I would like a mid to late round addition for depth. I'd probably end up with Matthews/Unger (surprise, I know) from cherry picking your draft. Day 2 picks look just fine to me though!

Enjoyed the mock

Welcome Sorry that some people act unTexan (is that a word) like. LOL

Cushing
Alphonso Smith
Rashod Jennings
M. Hamlin
Massaquoa
Terrance Taylor

I would be pleased if the first 4 picks went this way. I think all 4 would be contributors or upgrades in their first year.

Great mock, and please don't be deterred by the initial burst of rudeness. You guys put alot of work into it (comments for all 7 rounds--wow).

As for the picks:
Round 1: I think this will hinge on whether the reports about Cushing/Matthews are confirmed or refuted by the official reports. Of course, we won't know what those official reports say absent a leak. If they are clean, I think one or the other is the pick, though most here prefer Matthews. If they are not clean, lord knows what we do next, but I have a feeling we grab Wells.

Round 2: I don't think CB is a high-round need--not that our current corners are any great shakes, but I think our current roster is set there. If Unger is still on the board, it would be very, very hard to pass him up.

Round 3: If we went Wells/Unger (admittedly against the grain given our sorry defense last year), then obviously we'd need defense here. Sintim isn't best-suited for a 4-3, but he could be a mean situational pass rusher, something we could really use to allow Antonio Smith to go inside on passing downs. But I think Kruger would be our guy here. But if we took Cushing/Matthews in the first round and don't yet have an RB, Jennings is a good choice, though my UVA bias leans me to Peerman.

Round 4: No problem with Hamlin. I wouldn't mind us taking a WR, but I think local guy Jarrett Dillard fits us better than Massoquoi. Dillard would make an absolutely great slot receiver and may allow us to trade David Anderson to the Broncos for another pick.

After the first four, I don't have much opinion on.

But, again, great work on this mock.

Cushing and Matthews were cleared by the league's testing. The original story was false.

As I recall, the NFL's statement on the subject was to the effect that the results were either not yet known or not yet released to any of the teams. The NFL did not say that the Cushing's or Matthews' tests were clean. Big difference.

I believe they said that all players that tested positive have already been notified personally. And since neither Cushing or Matthews has been notified by the league of a positive test they are both clean.

link please.....what was confirmed...

is that Doctor Lumbardo has not released the results to anyone. Not the particapants, not the teams and not the comissioner, no one.
....and they won't be until this week. What was confirmed is that there is no way that the slime who posted it ,nor the sources he claims he has, could have known....anything. The sources have been discredited....the test is yet to be released.

So are you posting....you'd rather have a nickel corner and a back up interior offensive lineman....before you'd pick a legitimate guy with a chance to dislodge a starter, full time, from day one of the season ? Inquiring minds wish to know ?

I'll give you cushing is better insurance for the SAM. Stouter against the run. But, Mathews is clearly the better play making prospect at this point. And playing behind Mario...he's going to be well protected.

I think you guys do a good job. I do have a suggestion though: check your positional rankings. For example, you have Mike Goodson going in the 4th round, but he is not even in the RB positional rankings, which has 90 players.

Yep, those rankings were done a very long time ago and we're updating them this week.

The new RB, QB, FB, and TE rankings should be posted in the next day or two. The "Top 100" is being re-worked as well.

For now, the only up-to-date postional ranking is WR.

I go to alot of these different team boards, but you guys are easily among the best when it comes to knowledge of your team.

When I needed a David Carr scouting report you guys were on it and when I needed some feedback on the 2008 Texans team needs you guys were there again.

Once again, you've all come through and posted two pages worth of excellent commentary. Seriously...Thank you!!!

The reason we didn't go with Andre Smith is because (in our opinion) he is a guard in a zone scheme.

You're absolutely right about Unger; he'd be a great selection in the second round.
