Come to papa!! DALLAS SIGNS Glenn- Houston Chronicle: Cowboys, Glenn reach deal

Since when has the Rangers owner Tom Hicks become internationally hated? That makes no sense.

It makes perfect sense. He made a situation in baseball worse by bidding against himself for A-Rod ($250 million over 10 years). The finances in baseball are already messed up and he had to go and overpay a guy by 25-40%. It set his team's progress back about 3 seasons too (combined with the Chen Ho Park deal)

Plus any owner of a Dallas team will inherently be hated by some of us Houstonians.

Because Dallas offered [Aaron Glenn] money to be a nickel back. Houston wasn't willing to do that.

Houston did offer to let him be the nickel back at a reduced cost. It was Glenn who didn't want to stick around for that. He wanted to go elsewhere. They granted his wish.

Really. That doesn't sit well with my hopes of them not throwing much money at him. I'd think it'd have to be a substantial sum for him to be willing to play a similar position but have to uproot his family again.

Actually, as far as we know, the Texans did not even ask Glenn to take a pay cut--they were willing to pay him for one year at NB more than he signed for a two year contract in Dallas.

His family is staying here. The deal is very cheap--a mil up front and league minimum 1st year, slightly more 2nd year--basically around a $1.26 cap hit this year and $1.5 mil if he plays 2006.

When the Glenn thing first came out my immediate reaction was

1) Maybe they told him his playing time would be reduced

After hearing Capers and Casserly on the radio that's exactly what happened

2) Maybe they asked him to take a pay cut

According to Casserly they never got around to discussing this

3) Maybe he felt slighted because they traded for Buchanon

He's human so I'm sure he was somewhat irritated by it

So I hear Glenn's interview on 610. He says that he and the Texans parted on good terms. The Texans presented him with the situation and gave him alternatives and he chose to move on for the betterment of both parties.

Now he's in Dallas.

1) His playing time will be reduced. I'm hearing he'll be the nickel back

2) He took a pay cut although he does get a signing bonus it's still less than he would've made here

So I'm asking myself ..... what gives? I like Glenn. In a time when athletes are beating their wives, using steroids, mixing it up with fans, .... he seems like the kind of guy you want your kid to want to be like .....

It seems like he's in the same situation in Dallas that he would have been in here had he stayed and agreed to play nickel. I haven't pored over the Cowboy's schedule but it seems to me he'd have been on the field more here than in Dallas since the Texans play Indy twice, KC, StL, .....

I did hear something in his interview that made me pause .... he has a genuine affection for Demarcus Faggins .... did he do this to allow Faggins on the field more? did he do this because of his relationship with Parcells? or was it because he's human and let emotion decide for him that he'd rather have less playing time somewhere else than less playing time here ...

dunno

I think he thought he would possibly be a late camp cut with Faggins development and Sanders in the fold as a FA signing in the off-season. He sought out a path that allowed him to find a team in time to be in camp and learn their system. I think it is really just as simple as that.

Could be ....

However, why not offer to restructure the deal ..... maybe down to what he's getting at Dallas .... then no worries about getting cut in August .... Some element of pride is involved here ....

Vinny said:
The Texans aren't in cap trouble. They had no reason to restructure. Glenn bolted for himself. Not for this team. I wish him well all the same.

No I meant Aaron ask for a restructure ......

He's in Dallas with less playing time and less money

why not stay in Houston with less playing time and less money?

Vinny said:
Because of Sanders and Faggins. If you listen to his interviews and read between the lines

did both and I agree ....

Vinny said:
IF he makes the squad on a team that is going young. I honestly think he is cutting off the possible late roster cut

call me naive but I have a hard time believing that the Texans would cut him late especially at a reduced cost and judging by the straightforward way they've handled this

The team isn't going to restructure this old guys contract and spread his cap hit further down the road. If he isn't going to see the field as much as the other guys you have to look at reality. Glenn is 33 and will be 34 during the 2006 season. You may trust the team to hang on to sentimental value but Glenn clearly doesn't.
Great minds do think alike. :woot

Well we can bandy it back and forth but the reality is neither of knows what was in Aaron's mind .... we can agree to disagree
