Colts & WR Hilton ink new deal which includes 39M $ guaranteed

ANDERSON, Ind. -- The Indianapolis Colts have agreed to a contract extension with fourth-year receiver T.Y. Hilton on Thursday.

A source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter that the deal is for five years and is worth $65 million -- $39 million of which is guaranteed.

After they drafted WR Phillip Dorsett out of the U this year with their 1st round pick I'm surprised they went with a new contract this generous with their vet WR ?

Yeah, I was wrong on that.

They've got a biiiig contract coming up... I think I would've tried to sign him this year, but I don't attempt to understand all of the ins & outs on cap considerations.

I really thought Hilton would hit FA in the 2015-16 off-season when I found out they'd use their top pick this year in the Draft on another speed-burner WR. Very interesting ? Unless I'm overlooking something here, it seems they have an extraordinary imbalance in cap resources tied up between the defense & offense, and this of course is even before they finally agree to a long-term deal with Luck.
